I have adopted a young stray 2 years ago. Last year I had to sit with him next to the open door as he panicked every time I tried to close the door. Last October finally ge trusted me enough that I would let him out if he wanted to. But... I never had a cat before. He comes in for his food. I can pet him. I can give him anti worm treatment or if his I think cronical cat flu is getting bad taking antibiotics. But... I have never tried to pick him up or take him to the vet. Could you give me some tipps what I could do? I tried never to enforce anything as my experience was it just throws our relation back. He still sleeps outside in front of my door in a house I built for him. Which means my terrace is now not usable anymore as it is his core territory.

I found a kitten at our doorstep. Wasn’t feral so he had to come from someone. Took him to vet to see if he had a chip. He did and it was one of our neighbours. We brought the cat up to the owner and let me tell you. He did not care. We said “hey we found your cat!” And he showed no expression wasn’t happy or delighted to see his cat again. He’s like “oh thanks” and then explains that he left him at the balcony on a 2 story apartment and that the cat must of jumped off. Guy wasn’t looking for the cat when he was lost and I could tell bc we had that cat for a week and you would think that someone would post on Facebook about it. It just.. makes me so mad

My stray stayed out for a yr and a half starting at about 6mo old. Finally she let me touch her nose. That was it now she even goes for walks with the dog. No leash she comes in at dark when I call. She was abused. Only had 3 fangs and terrified of boots. So you get the pic. She now doesn't mind dad's boots clomping around

Nah my family rescued this sweet girl, and she would snap and growl at my mom due to past abuse by people who looked like her (white). She was around 8 when we got her, and it took her around 6 months to just sit near her, and then it got better from there. She still got aggressive towards white men, but she was a lot more comfortable with white women after that. Now she’s 14, and she’s just an old lady who growls at the puppies whenever they run too fast in the house lol

@jeannenora61136 ай бұрын
@KwonJasperet Could be that that cat was being fed by different people who took pity on him by leaving food out for him to find, but was also mistreated by others and so does not trust humans that much. I too have picked up many strays and have experience. All those I rescued became "cuddlers" in one way or another after a while when they learned to trust humans. (I usually found new homes for them as I already had 5 cats - also rescues)

Some feral cats with FIV end up getting puffy like that even feral
@SilverFoxSpirit9710 ай бұрын
Dude it's obviously an unneutered tom cat. When male cats aren't neutered in childhood, they develop thick pads of fat, especially around the face, to protect vital areas while fighting. Besides, plenty of cat breeds have thick, dense fur that makes them look a lot chubbier than they are. A domestic cat that was used to human contact would *not* react like this to human contact or being indoors. Besides that, if he was wondering around outside, without a collar or a microchip, acting aggressively to human contact, you cannot blame anyone for assuming him to be feral.
