As a type 1 diabetic I can assure you without insulin he was not only on his out, but his body was weak, extremely painful and his blood supply was toxic with major organs shutting down slowly, the feeling is frightening plus being in shelter untreated, indescribable really. I am so grateful this was noticed, treated and now he is loved, happy, safe and his condition is managed…what a beautiful boy!

Our cat was a few hours from passing and we had no idea what was going on. Rushed her to emergency vet. She was critical for 4 days, but once she was in insulin and special food, she was also is another 5 healthy years. It's not as expensive as people think and definitely worth the small expense.❤

@@fiofiofioletta1898 My dog has epilepsy and he gets pills that cost me 240 € a year and he is worth every penny (and I am not rich). I can't understand how some people want to get rid of their animals as soon as they are ill, that disgusts me. I would rather do without something than that my dog has to suffer, he is doing very well with the tablets and he is now 11 years old and my one and only.

We had the same happen with our fur baby cat Romeo, and thankfully our vet was right next-door to where we lived. I don’t think he would’ve made it if we had to drive any further we were on the phone with her immediately he was going into diabetic coma I think because he was limp eyes fixed and I am a “helicopter mom” as everyone at the vet affectionately calls me so he’s doing very well now, my husband checks him and he has insulin shots when he needs them. 🧡

He wasn’t afraid of humans per se, he was afraid because his physiology was so out of wack that he probably couldn’t manage the world with any security. As a human, when diabetes manifests in the system, the experience can be extremely discombobulating when you don’t know how to identify the source of the symptoms. Before I got diagnosed, I maybe peed 9 times an hour. So for a dog, I can imagine that would be an absolute nightmare, especially after being on the street. Glad to see the 180 he was able to make after getting proper treatment.

It's actually also possible he was abused because he wasn't acting like the perfect puppy people expect. If he was peeing too much he may have made messes and gotten abused for that as well.

Oh yeah. Type 1 here, I knew what he had the moment they listed the symptoms out. And seeing the monitor on him was so cute!
@enochabraham6883 ай бұрын
@@GeekGamer666 yea that can happen a lot. When I was living in the hood, there was so much animal abuse because folks literally had no real idea how to take care of animals. No spaying or neutering, reprimanding pets by leaving them outside in freezing temps, physical retaliation… it got pretty bad because they were ignorantly responding to health issues that they didn’t have the resources or knowledge to manage correctly. I think the health problems made it impossible for the dog to have enough operational ability to notice and gel with the safe environment they were in. They were left without care for an extended period of time, and given how much more attentive animals can be to physiological activity, he probably didn’t know up from down. So if abuse was in the picture, it would know how to assess anything else until physiological stability came through. But once it got treatment, it settled in instantly. It’s just a really good story that the homie got proper treatment and can enjoy being safe and loved now👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

My childhood kitty developed diabetes in her older years. It seemed so overwhelming when we had a meeting with the vet about how to care for her. I was a teenager, maybe 15, but it was my cat so I was going to do the insulin injections. It ended not being at all as bad as I imagined. After a while, she seemed to know it was time (it was done on a schedule) and she would hop up on a particular chair and wait. Best patient ever.

@cordeliawl when we were told poppy was diabetic the vet asked if we'd be willing to inject her twice a day. He looked surprised when I said yes, of course. That made me think that a lot of people must say no which is a shame. I'm sure nobody likes having to do it but a happy and relatively healthy pet makes it completely worth it.

ALWAYS keep an eye on your pet, you know when they’re acting different or looking ill . Learned the hard way when I was a kid when my dog was suddenly not being himself . I thought , “Well I’ll just monitor him .” Nope , bone cancer in his leg . Very aggressive form . Amputation would have given me more time with him , months at best . I waited a month . I’ll never forget the Drs words and the guilt I felt . I was very young 17. On my own and working 2 jobs to pay my rent and buy his and my own food . I literally went without eating at my apartment the entire time while he was on meds and treatment . 3 months later he crossed that rainbow bridge at the vets . I’ve never forgiven myself. Miss him TODAY , 30 yrs later .

@MikeCho, I felt sad after reading your comment about the very difficult experience that you had while trying to care for your dog years ago. Please try to give yourself a "break", because you were so young at that time, and were struggling to get by, while also caring for a sick dog. That's very stressful for anyone. It sounds like you went above and beyond in order to take care of your dog and yourself, especially while also working two jobs! You did all that you could do at the time, so please try to make your peace with that. I sincerely hope and pray that you will be able to let go of any guilt that you might still feel about this situation. It's so very painful to lose a beloved pet, but sometimes it's just out of our hands. Please know that his suffering is over, and please try to allow your heart to heal. God bless you. 🙏 🕊️

I was sure something was failing and we would be leaving soon. Took her into the vet and found she was diabetic. Started administering insulin and within a week it was like she had become years younger. I got my best friend back. Taffy survived for over 5 years as a diabetic. She was 1 month from her 17th birthday when she passed. My baby will be forever 16. I miss you Taffy. Never ignore any odd signs or symptoms.
