Not that he deserves it, but in Goku's defense, his point is that he's preparing for the NEXT threat to Earth, after Cell. One day he won't be able to keep fighting, but Earth needs a protector, so he needed to find a proper replacement and push them to and then _past_ Goku's own level. Still causes him to do some garbage things, don't get me wrong. And Piccolo's right that the critical failure of Goku's plan is that Gohan simply doesn't want to be that person. If he'd been training, like.....I dunno, Caulifla or someone, his whole plan would have ended up looking far better, since she'd have been all on board for that.

Yes, it would have solved the _Cell_ problem...but that's not what Goku was trying to do. Goku is playing the long game. He knows that Earth is going to need a new defender when he's gone, and that Gohan is the only one strong enough to take up that mantle. However, he recognizes that Gohan also isn't at the level he needs to be at in order to take his place (especially since every new foe seems to be far stronger than the last one), so he orchestrates the chain of events that he believes will push his son to reach that level.

I don't know how much it means to you, but the guys from TFS actually helped me get through depression with EP 60. I don't know if it was partly for the nostalgia of my childhood, or rather the theme of 16's speech here. The line 'you act like you're the only one suffering' really resonated with my perspective on things. On the one hand, it was a sign for 'no matter how hard your life seems, sometimes you just have to overcome it. So interestingly while the Venit aevus ille is Latin the parts after that seem to be Hebrew. If you break down the words and trasnlate from Hebrew to English you get this. YUDU = They will confess LIYA = I am with God VELE = Or Else IYA = Bird of Prey So the section: YUDULIYA-VELE YUDULIYA-VELE YUDULIYA-VELE YUDULIYA IYALIYA Means something like: They will confess I am with God - Or else They will confess I am with God - Or else They will confess I am with God - Or else They will confess I am with God - Like a bird of prey I am with God Full disclaimer I don't know Hebrew that's what I found after about an hour of googling. Comment 2: Just something I'd thought I'd share my thoughts on here: As a (semi-fluent)Hebrew speaker The translations in modern Hebrew don't quite add up thoroughly but if the translator made errors it could be more accurate. Starting with YUDU= they will confess. That one is probably the most accurate as "Hem YODU" and in biblical Hebrew is closely translated as 'pronounce' or 'declare' and in modern can be translated into 'They will confess'. Thus a simple vowel error could explain the difference. The next one, LIYA, is where is gets confusing. In modern Hebrew the form should take " אני עם אלוהים " or 'Ani eim Alohim' The LI part could be a biblical reference to the 'me' as it is used to say 'to me' like he gave that to me, but the YA doesn't ring any bells for me. If anyone can provide a reason for why it translates to either "God is with me" or "I am with God" I'd be pleasantly surprised. The only correlation is in biblical times the suffix AH was added to names to indicate a closeness with God: Abram=>AbraHAm, Joshu=> JoshuA (it makes more sense in Hebrew) Unfortunately the Leah translates to Tired. Cow. this may poke a hole in the theory... VELE is just wrong. The three forms or 'or else' are " אחרת ", " אם לא ", and " וָלֹא ". These are pronounced, in order, as "Eim Lo", "Acheret", and "Va Lo" The best guess is that whomever wrote the translations either misread Va Lo as VELE, since they didn't either see or have vowels, or we are in the wrong language. Finally IYA: " ציפורי טרף " and "עַיִט " are the closest i could find, and neither sound close to IYA. "Tsipouri Teref" and "Ayit" The first literally translates to Bird of Prey, the other could mean an eagle, vulture, or specific bird of prey. "Ayit" is the closest and may be the reason for that translation, best guess here. Honestly this post is just to push out some more info on the subject and maybe help those in search of more direct data than interpreted. While I can see how the words could have come about though poor translation errors, it is also possible that they are either nonsense words or of another language similar to Hebrew (perhaps another Semitic based language). Either way hope this info helps someone out there. Oh good, I'm not the only one who still gets goosebumps when that scene hits. Because it isn't just boss music...it's protagonist boss music. It's perfect for things like what you went through having to reupload videos, because it's perseverence in the face of adversity. I used to listen to that song a lot as well, while I was slowly digging my way out of a dark place. The growth Gohan experiences throughout episode 60 is something I relate to so strongly because my own life experiences mirror it so well. That said...I can't wait to see how Kirby reacts to Gohan's monologue in part 2. That's something I still show people to this day because of my own experiences.

Day of fate was the original song played in japanese when gohan transformed against cell. The english cover was an homage to that, a kind of returning to its roots. With all the humor that team four star was known for, this serious moment is widely regarded as one of the best choices TFS made in the series. Woah it’s feels like just yesterday u guys started DBZA Teamfourstar has come so far. Gohan is really the MVP just a kid & he’s already so impressive can’t wait for part 2. 16’s speech is so moving and true to truly keep the peace Gohan had to stop holding back.Love that 16 throws Cell’s line back at him for 18. The way Goku thought this out is insanely impressive but Piccolo is of course correct. Definitely glad I'm not the only one who still gets goosebumps as the Day of Fate cover comes on in this episode--even after having just gone through TFS's episode 60 commentary for it just the other week. But it's just such a powerful moment for Dragon Ball but also anime in general, and their choosing to more or less play it straight and use the original song played as he transformed was a great choice. Also would listen to the song at the gym too, lol. I'm glad Kirby also like, settled into it after the "16 did this???" bit and vibed with it. Kirby, imagine that part dropping, and having to wait 2 WEEKS for the next part. IT WAS TORTURE. This in my opinion was the PEAK of TFS, and it was such a shame they stopped. I understand their reasoning, but it doesn't mean it didn't suck that they were not going to continue.
