Man, Doug has been quite harsh towards these films so far. I understand it’s his opinion, but I feel like he’s barely touching upon the things that fans find good, like the music, action scenes, character arcs (except Will and Elizabeth), etc. Also, he said that this film is apparently said to be the worst film in the series. I have never, EVER, heard anyone say that this is the worst Pirates film. That distinction has always been towards the 4th or 5th film. I wonder where he heard that from?

Doug has an interesting take on Pirates. He really can't seem to find anything likeable about Will and Elizabeth and he keeps advocating for their removal, but I feel like those two were the true main characters of the trilogy with Jack acting as a very solid supporting character. This theory gets showcased the most in Pirates 4 & 5 where, without any strong grounded leads to work off of, Depp really struggles to make Jack interesting. (I also noticed Doug cut or chopped up a lot of the movie's best scenes. As a person who's supposed to be an impartial reviewer, it feels more like something Cinemasins would do.)

The third one does take a very different tone, and some of the characters, namely Elizibeth has been changed slightly. But honestly, I love the third one the most because of all the Lore it creates. The Brother's Court. The Pirate Lords. More about the Pirate Code. Davy Jone's Duty. How there is weirdness in the world by showing Gods exist, and more than that, that they can be bound and captured. The 9 pieces of 8. And more and more lore. THAT is what I love about it. It actually DEEPENS the world. Unlike the other two films after this. One is just an isolated Adventure that expands nothing. And the second, literally Retcons the ENTIRE Franchize in the most stupid and illogical way.

@@Bamaboys Not second movie, I'm talking about the Second one AFTER the Trilagy. The 5th movie, which Retconned the 'Curse'. Davy Jones was cursed by Calypso because he refused to do his duty of ferrying the dead. We see that Will IS doing this Duty, staying off land for 10 years, to ferry the dead. So WHY is he cursed? It makes no sense. The Dutchman does NOT curse people naturally, ONLY if they neglect their duties, which he has NOT done, as far as we know. Secondly, Where is Will's Father? He went through all this trouble to save him, and he is bound to the ship for eternity. Where is he? They then changed the Rules about Jack's Compass. That he must hold onto it, for some reason, or else a group of cursed pirates will be free. But also WHY were they cursed, and what made their curse tied to the Compass? What makes THEM so special, versus every OTHER ship that crashes into that area and sinks. The 5th movie has a LOT of plotholes, and Retcons a lot of shit. Including Davy Jones' entire story.

@@Jirodyne I agree with almost every point except for the compass and the curse Pirate hunters. The compass would punish Jack if he betrayed it. Giving it to others to get it back later doesn't count as betrayign it, but trading it away does and did count as betraying it. Of course he could of just got it back later, but the compass counted it being treated as a tradeable thing for rum as a betrayal. The Pirate hunters didn't have a connection to the compass it was more or less just the compass punishing jack by breaking free said pirate hunters who wanted to kill him. The reason for as to why they most likely got cursed while everyone else who must of accidentally gone into the devils triangle could of been due to what they we're feeling at the time like Salzars lust for revenge. He already hated pirates for what they did to his family, which was left un satisfied due to the Wicked Wench getting away. His hatred must of gotten stronger after Jack Sparrow "a pirate" tricked him into going into the triangle.

I idea of there being only one sword fighting scene is pretty false as I can remember two other times swords were drawn in this movie. The first being in Singapore, yes I know he mentioned it but only acting as if it only happened in the background when even though Barbossa, one of the main characters, does a majority of that action scene brandishing a sword. The second being near the middle when Barbossa and Sao Feng are attempting to escape from the villains by first forcing them off the Black Pearl. So, that would be a total of three sword fights. I guess Doug was too busy focusing on the expository dialogue scenes that he missed out on a number of others.

I remember seeing the last third of this movie and being blown away personally. And I played through it in Kingdom Hearts 3 a few weeks ago. A lot of people don't like the Pirates of the Caribbean world in that game but once I got past the lucky emblem hunting (man I hate those things), it was really fun.

- I'm gonna have to disagree with Critic on this one. I wouldn't even label this one bad. 4 and 5, especially 5 are way worse. Also this one easily has the best soundtrack - Don't really get the complaint about it being dark when the last 2 has the same tone. There were men getting pecked alive by crows in the 2nd. And it's not like this one is missing the comedy - Why didn't Elizabeth go with Will? Well 1) It's implied you need to be dead or dying to join 2) The franchise has constantly shown how immortality just sucks 3) Why would Will want her to be potentially cursed? Especially how his father ended up

I am back for another week to recommend you to watch the NC Review on The Prince of Egypt during Easter Week to feel the celebration. Also, I really do like this film, and really wanted it to feel like the ending to the franchise, but of course it just kept going on. Also what are you guys theory on how Davy Jones got to the beach in that bucket that even the LEGO game made fun of this concept.

Gonna be honest here, I actually prefer this film over the second one. I admit that the goofy set pieces in the second are fun, but they also just feel like that's the only reason they're in the film. This film may be overwritten and need editing, but every bizarre moment, every set piece, and every long-winded negotiation is in dedication to the plot. That just makes it more enjoyable to me. I know it's a minority opinion, but there it is. Side note, when Jack was talking with Beckett and Beckett brought up Elizabeth, did anyone else get the sense that Jack was implying Beckett was a eunuch?

I don’t think Beckett was a eunuch, he seems more interested in power and status than women, it could also be implied he had a homosexual fling with Jack Sparrow if their remembrance of having a spicy banana was anything to go by 😄. Although a weird side note on that, the villain on The Lone Ranger was a eunuch, the writers and director being the same ones as on the first three Pirates movies, so who knows ??

Ironically, I don't get what exactly what it is that Doug doesn't get about these movies. I've literally never had any issues understanding them. For instance, I've never seen anyone other than Doug claim or believe that these films were always intended to be a trilogy. I've always assumed the first film was a standalone film, and the second two were a duology with a number of returning characters, and that's exactly what it felt like to me. The "Will Turner looks just like his dad" thing felt like it was genuine in the first film, but I thought it was retconned into a running joke with Bill Turner's appeary. I legitimately think he just really hates the length, and while I admit they do get a little long, I personally have never minded because the world and characters are fun enough to make it worth the length. The one thing Doug said about the last two films that I agree with is that thing about how Dead Man's Chest might be a better movie if the first half hour or so was cut.

I feel Doug goes a bit hard on this movie. I know not everyone will agree or disagree, but him being confused about everyone's motives just seems a bit odd. Like I grew up watching this movie the most out of the three at the time when it was only 3 and followed all the twists, turns, and backstabs, and I was a pre-teen. A grown ass man is having trouble following this when his job is reviewing movies. Just feels odd he makes complaints that make sense in the movie. Like when he talks about Tia and how she went from a flirty, mischievous witch to a tone down god in human form when he doesn't understand she changed due to the events she's in: confronting her ex-lover, becoming Calypso again and seeing she has to give up her simple life from all this pain. I like most of Doug's videos, but he isn't right every time.

The third movie had some really good moments, but story wise it was rubbish. The first movie could easily stand alone, everything after that is a bunch of hits and misses.

I do agree there is way too much plot in this one and could split into 2 films but this is not remotely the worst of the 5. I only seen the 5th movie once and I wasn't in super critic mode or anything, I was just casually watching and I notice stuff that I clearly saw major plotholes that clash with the earlier films. I was disappointed that KH3 basically skipped the entire movie and go straight to the climax. It could be a good thing since the KH series is know for it's complicated plot and Pirate 3 is already complicated itself. Tho if you play the games without seeing the movies, you be confused like why is Will on the bad side or why Elizabeth is a pirate captain. Also they undid the Kraken's anticlimatic death and gave Sora and the gang an epic showdown.
