It was my best spot ever, yielding Spanish silver, English King Georges (1, 2 and 3's ), US Federal coins, hundreds of buttons, some shoe buckles, and 10 coins they call the 30-year coin, American silver 3 cent piece or Trime. @Jakeandhaylee6 ай бұрын
So. It's very hard to find hammered coins in fields like this, because of the amount of rain. A HUGE thing to remember is the grass in fields like this breaking down each year easily adds inches of soil per decade. Brutal truth about this combo.
@TheDukesOfDerbyshire5 ай бұрын
Hi Jake, thanks so much for visiting my channel, for watching this video and for your feedback. You are right there, and due to lack of ploughing, these old finds simply sink deeper and deeper underground due to gravity. It doe snot take long for mother earth to consume the things we drop. If you place a tennis ball on your back lawn and leave it, within a couple of weeks the grass will start to consume it. Leave it there for a few months and it will probably be gone. Gotta love physics. Thanks again

Absolutely love these vids. Thank you for enduring the elements to create such magical content. Don't laugh (as my question is grade 1 amateur fare). I can understand how on ploughed fields why Queen Elizabeth II coins can be discovered at a spade's depth or more due to soil disturbance, but on seemingly unploughed fields, some more historically recent coins manage to become buried quite a depth below ground level? My uneducated guess was the soil conditions allowing metal coins to sink through the layers ect...Decided it best not to guess and ask a guy who'd know.
@TheDukesOfDerbyshire6 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your kind words and thanks for the support. That is a great question and something that fascinates me. If you drop anything on a grass field, it only takes a few weeks for the grass to grow around it, then the item becomes pulled under ground by the roots of the grass. Depending on the type of soil, gravity works it magic and the item slowly sinks over time. Worms, moles and various other things can also affect this. I have found ancient finds only a few inches deep, but then on the same field, modern coins 7 or 8 inches deep. Thanks again for watching

For me on the land that I detect (clean pasture) 0.71 is the correct Firmware choice. hi 👋 duke (is it okay if i call u that) i just got my first metal detector 3 days ago and u are one of the reasons i did. i haven’t found a ton, the coolest things would probably be a morgan dollar(it is in good condition and is detailed with list of mint luster PLUS it has no mint mark and it’s from 1887, which i think is good for a beginner, i freaked out about it.)although it has some rust on one corner) and a pretty big full on bullet! (i wonder what gun it’s from?)i did it where i live in temecula, california which has a LOT of rich history! but one of the problems i kept having was rock hard dirt that i kept running into, which probably formed because it’s always so hot out.:( and i had to look for green grass because the dirt is softer, which i felt a bit bad about digging. luckily it is normal to do so i should get used to it. i did dig in a circle and put it back nicely so hopefully it’s not damaged. anyways that’s it about the finds. i’ll try to comment in some of your videos more about my finds, maybe i should start a channel when i’m more experienced, although i might need to learn how to make my videos engaging for metal detectors if they watch it. but it might be a bit slow because i’m only 13 and i can’t drive to places. i do have some farm fields next to my house i could ask the owners to dig! thanks for reading if you did 😁

Hello & greetings to you in Loganville, Georgia. Thanks for visiting my channel, for watching this video and for your kind words. This location is very beautiful and scenic, I have made dozens of KZbin videos on this permission in all sorts of weather and conditions. There is nothing quite like the great British countryside, but man America is awesome and has some spectacular landscapes - a lot of which I discovered when I followed Route 66 back in 2019. That was a holiday of a lifetime! Thanks again and hope to see you on my next episode

Cool channel man! I subbed we do magnetfishing! We also have a metal detector!

Hello there, thank you for the channel visit and for subscribing. Magnet fishing is something that slightly interests me, in fact I bought a magnet several years ago, but never got round to using it. I know lots of places that would be awesome. Do you need to get permission from someone before you magnet fish somewhere?
@Bosnia_Magnetfishing5 ай бұрын
@@TheDukesOfDerbyshireHey, there! As for permission, not really, as long it isn't on someone's property. If you don't see signs, then you're fine.

@@Bosnia_Magnetfishing everywhere is someones property. So I could go down my local canal and magnet fish without asking whoever owns the canal?

Hi mate, ye definitely still stuff up there, but I just feel like I've found 2 spectacular finds there and I don't think there are any more. So I feel the need to spend my precious time on more productive land and getting new permissions

@TheDukesOfDerbyshire I know what you mean. I'm the same with some of mine.. It's just when you've found a few good things, there's always that feeling that there's something else waiting to be found. Time is precious though and if you can get on new land, it keeps it exciting ..
