I love this!! This makes me feel less scared of homeschooling! Thank you! I really appreciate that you showed your schedule because it helped me get a visual of what that looks like. Your example gives me hope in that I too can make a similar schedule for our week without having to write down a detailed "minute by minute" schedule...I need to be able to go with the flow of how things are going in the day. I'm not homeschooling yet, but I will be for this upcoming school year (Kindergarten).
@TheEclecticHomeschooler4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer! I’m so glad it was helpful! And yes - you can do it! 😉 For just starting kindergarten, my advice would be to do way less than this even. You should have no more than 1-2 hours of active instruction on your part. Most of the day should just be living life (and talking about it), doing fun educational activities, reading together, and playing. It’s so important to not try to do too much too soon! Children need to be playing and they learn so much in their play! ☺️

❤️ There a lot of people in your same shoes this year! My biggest piece of advice is to start slow. You can always add more later, but focus on building relationships with your children and give them plenty of time to explore their own interests. I know a lot of families that take their kids out of the school environment to homeschool go through a period of “de-schooling.” I highly recommend the book “Teaching From Rest” by Sarah Mackenzie. Best wishes and God bless!

I feel like I’m really gonna try on the more relaxed style. I have 4 and this is my third year of trying to teach everyone at their own level and my kids are 4,6,8,12 and it is exhausting! I and my husband also work which is an added challenge so I’m really grateful for your videos.

Jessie, how is your HSing journey going? My daughter did private preschool & kindergarten. We have decided to HS this year. Quick question, What was a homeschool win for you? What didnt work so well? Just gathering any info that would help me succeed my 1st year.🙃
@jessiedschuh3 жыл бұрын
@@breynolds7196 It has actually gone really well! My approach has been doing certain subjects on certain days. We only do about 45-60 mins of actual book work. The rest of the learning is in activities, projects, outdoor play, etc. My biggest tip is using a desk calendar, and plan everything a month ahead of time. That way, you don’t even have to think about it. I also gather supplies for projects, etc. 😊

@TheEclecticHomeschooler3 жыл бұрын
I remember those days well! Busy, busy, busy! It can definitely be a challenge but the good news is that you really don't have to do a lot at that age! Try not to put too much pressure on yourself to "keep up" with the next kid, it's actually better for them developmentally to not force school work too early. I'm a big proponent of no formal lessons until age 5 or 6, and even then, it's very minimal (like no more than 1-2 hours a day broken up in several increments). Spend time reading great books together, make games out of learning letters and colors and shapes, play outside, explore and enjoy each other! The little years should be mostly about learning through play. Lessons can come later as they are ready for it! Best of luck!

That can be a challenge. I'm a big fan of doing school together over snack time. Maybe prepare a snack and then call them to the table for snack time and see if they come running! 😉 Or trying giving them a 5 minute heads up that it's almost time to get back to doing some school work. Good luck!

I did a little draft earlier today of a new routine I wanted to try out (Mainly so that I put subjects we’ve been leaving out at the beginning of the day) then I found the video and my draft is identical to the routine in this video ! That’s wild. I am glad to see it working for a seasoned homeschooling family (I’m only a few months into it for the first time). I look forward to getting this routine started and giving it a go. I’m still working on learning to plan ahead rather than going day by day and learning more about unit studies.

Thank you, Erin. It's so helpful to see how others do it. I'm intrigued by the podcast. Maybe another video on some of your favorite podcasts for you and/or the kids? I would love to also know how you juggle the stations time. Do you have the math lesson, copy work, etc. written out on a schedule for them so they know what to do. I find my kids just waiting for me if I don't have a written individual agenda for them; definitely need to work on the independence and problem solving. And, how do you juggle it when they all need your help at once while working on different subjects/assignment? In some ways a class of 30 was easier because we were all working on the same assignment together; I just need to transfer how I did that in the classroom to home with just 2. Ha! Anyway, we can talk through these details, but thought I'd put the questions out there for future videos; I'm sure I'm not the only one with these questions. Love seeing how things work for your sweet family!

PB Smart Thanks, Beth! I’m toying with the idea of doing a day in the life video to show us actually doing everything once we get back into a better groove... 🤔 I usually just tell them what they need to be working on and then kind of make my way around to whoever needs help on their independent work. They are able to skip problems that they need help with and keep going until I can get to them to help. Our biggest challenge in getting anything done is actually our 3 year old. 😆

IT SEEMS THIS CAN'T BE DONE WITH HIGH SCHOOLERS??
@kennakat71562 жыл бұрын
I personally feel like religion and school should be separate unless you're teaching your kids about all the different religions/beliefs, not just your religion/beliefs. Let them have the opportunity to choose what they want to believe, not just focus on what you believe and think they should believe as well. Other than that I like your videos/advice
@a.c.98072 жыл бұрын
It is our job as parents to instill beliefs in our children, and that usually looks like what the parent believes in. If you teach a child about any and all religions, you're just going to confuse them.
