We do a morning loop (bible, pledge, calendar, read aloud) and a core subject loop (handwriting, science math, phonics, reading) with plenty of brain breaks. I have one kiddo and we are heading into week 3 of kindergarten.

Hello, I started homeschooling my 5 yr old son for kinder, I'm debating if I should homeschool him for 1st grade this coming school year...I also have a 1 yr old. Looking at this videos and the comments it gives me more courage to homeschool him for his 1st grade, I just feel he's not emotionally ready for public school...he's going to be one of the younger ones in class.

This is so awesome! I decided to homeschool my son this year and seeing this and what you do to create a richer and overall balanced daily routine with your family inspires me so much. I created a learning flow(now I know it can also be called Loop Schedule) a week before we “officially” started our homeschool journey this year and as it’s been a month in our 2nd grade year, I’ve been wondering if what I’m doing so far is the right way, etc, but this video really came as a beautiful reminder that I should be proud of myself for landing in this idea of learning flow or loop schedule and making it work for my son and I without actually knowing it was a thing. So happy I came across this video. I feel reassured and re-inspired to continue along with this mindset of teaching. Thank you 😊

Thank you, Erin, for the video. I have seen your another video on loop scheduling but seeing how to make a list as a sample does help a lot! I also like to ask how you make the detail planning based on your loop schedule. We started homeschooling this summer and trying just 4 subjects at the moment; LA, math, science, and bible. I initially planned just weekly then I actually learned that there would be so many days when plans don't go as planned. I may still be figuring out how long my children will take do to complete something or how long I will be taking to teach a subject that day. I thought we could still be flexible with less subjects covering and I stopped planning. After while, I felt the need of tracking what we were doing and without planning, I couldn't . So I started recording daily what we do each day. Now, the summer is over and as I think we will add a couple more subjects, I feel the need of learning some good planning. I see some moms on KZbin that they plan a year then monthly then weekly. I thought I was a planner but how do I manage all that time and effort, knowing I still have to change the planning along the way, esp., that we are still figuring a lot things out? What am I misunderstanding about planning? This may be a big request but would you please have time to share how you do detail planning based on your loop schedule?
@TheEclecticHomeschooler3 жыл бұрын
I totally understand that feeling. I’ve been there too and did things the same way as you when I started. I’m much more of a reverse record keeper as opposed to a pre-planner now. Kind of like you said in recording what we’ve done after the fact rather than plan everything ahead, because things to tend to mess up the plans and it stresses me out! 🥴 I’m going to do a video this month about planing so keep an eye out for that to see how I do things. 😉

I love this idea. I right now m,w,f we do science and art. T, Th we do history and music. we have a daily routine which I love but what I'm doing now for the other subjects feels like we r on a schedule and I just need to get away from schedules. If we miss a day because life then I just have been skipping that subject for the week I don't like that. I'll have to rethink our weekly schedule to see if I can incorporate this. I think it would work better with my children and my brain. I also want to cover more than what we have been doing to bring more "fun" subjects in .And I want Friday ( or once a week) have an unschool day. Our morning routine is all the things we can learn together Wich is everything but reading writing and math because they are on their own levels and is daily.
@Judimama3 жыл бұрын
What does your unschool day look like? Maybe that’s silly but I mean what do you have available for your kids to pursue their individual interests? I feel like during our free time between blocks my kids are doing that. Is unschooling different than a day off?? Genuine questions 😂😂
@TheEclecticHomeschooler3 жыл бұрын
Great question! At the beginning of the year I have my kids make a list of things they want to learn about. Then we make sure to always have books on hand or resources available that go along with their goals. The time we normally allow in the mornings for traditional school work, they instead get to pursue those interests of theirs. We will often do a field trip, nature walk, or go to the library or runs errands in the afternoon, and listen to audio books in the car. We do it on Wednesday and it helps break up the week and reboot for more traditional work the rest of the week. 😄
