The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

@@TommyWashow No it isn't a**hole. LOL They are singing LIVE to a backing track. On the backing track they even cut out the lead guitar solo. The vocals are all live. The background vocals here are even a BIT different because on the record, John sang them. This performance is called a T.V. mix where the music is prerecorded & the vocals are all live.

It was a global monster hit. As a school kid circa 1970 in Malaysia, you could hear this tune daily on the radio. Local school bands would be rehearsing this song frequently. Every teenager who owned an acoustic guitar would be playing this song, even in rural areas. So popular was this song that it used to be played at school dances all the way into around 1972. Thank you ike and tina turner. Thank you CCR. Simply one of the best tunes from the 1960s.

I can't say enough how Creedence influenced my life as a 12 year old. When Bad Moon Rising came over the waves on my AM radio I could see a video in my head that was magic. Every year my parents took us on vacation in PC Florida a new Creedence song would come out. No group ever came close in my heart to Creedence. Their magic engulfed me for years. I so wish my children could experience how wonderful life was in the late 60's and early 70's. I'm 65 now and still love hearing a good Creedence song.

I wasn't born until 1989, but you are absolutely right that this was a special time for music. I really wish I got to live through it and experience it while it was happening. There are always good times to be had in every era, and I had a great childhood in the 90's. There was and still is tons of great music, you just have to search a little harder to find it than you did back then I think since it sure isn't being played on mainstream radio.

A couple of years ago. my friend called & said Fogerty is coming to town for a concert - do you want to go??? HELL yea. He has aged as I have, BUT he can still rock down like he is a kid & in fact he had his kid with him rocking down. There is something about 60's music that keeps us young as long as we keep moving.

I remember being on stage , as being present on another television appearance , than having sound interference. My earlier mistake of not clearing these interferances on television . I had to figure out to put live voices and video , into transmission from news room to home television , for the President "s speech's. I had to do pubic airports , control tower, passenger planes an military. I used this to maps and satilite systems . So , this is , as of now..Enjoy, I am a Navajo, Glenn Jimmy Klain, once an four time military uniform designer for us American military officers. They broke into my home in Phoenix, AZ, than burned my unforms ,while I was P. O. W. in Korean conflict

Great band indeed. If their marketing had been better, they would have reached no. 1 in the charts with that song and some other releases as well, such as 'Bad Moon Rising', 'Green River', 'Down On The Corner' or 'Fortunate Son'. On Ed Sullivan they should have been allowed to include the great instrumental part of 'Proud Mary', too, preferably live.

So this was lip-synced! I wasn't certain but looking at the drummer, Doug Clifford, performing it did not appear his sticks were striking the drum face most of the time. I get it though: This was pretty standard when bands made appearances on television variety shows in this era.

Yep. Beatles, Stones, Doors etc. all lip-synced on Sullivan though I think a few performances may have been live.

Not bad. These guys did my best song of all time, #1, Fortunate Son. Pity his brother died at only age 48, from a blood transfusion that gave him HIV.
