Phenomenal! When I was in the Marines we were issued two pairs of all leather boots. One pair for everyday use, the other for drill. First thing we did for the drill boots was strip them of the protective coating on the leather by using Barbasol shave cream in hot water and a stiff brush. This exposed the leather and opened up the pores. We then applied black dye and proceeded to spit shine, or as you call it, "mirror shine." Good deal.

Hello. your site is fascinating for every person who takes great care of their shoes. Now, i have a suggestion: when you start your demonstration , i think you have to show all the necessary products to carry out your action. Then, when you use them, from time to time you can show the single container in a close-up shot. So, everyone can see which and when to use the most suitable product. Thank you very much.

@JayWalkerOnline

Resolene is meant for leathers that receive a different kind of wear and tears leathers that need to be sealed. Sealing the pores on your shoes will wreck them in the long run.

I don’t understand. When I applied Saphir shoe cream to the vamp and sides of 2 different pairs of shoes the cream cracked and turned white after I started to walk in them. I have the Allen Edmonds Bartlett (Strand) and Player's 2.0 pebble leather. What am I doing wrong?
@TheElegantOxford
@TheElegantOxford 5 жыл бұрын
You’re applying wax to flex points. Avoid them and use cream instead.
@ramblin_man23

The Elegant Oxford no wax applied to the vamps sir, only conditioner and cream.
@ramblin_man23
@ramblin_man23 5 жыл бұрын
The only thing I can think of is maybe I used too much cream and after I started walking the flex points started turning white. Again no wax polish was applied to any flex areas, only to the cap and heel. What do you think?
@willisix2554
@willisix2554 4 жыл бұрын
I think maybe you're right, maybe too much cream has been applied, if it were my shoe, I would brush the hell out of them, then buff them with a microfiber towel and see what it would happen then, by the way I have some player 2.0 also love them!
@ramblin_man23
@ramblin_man23 4 жыл бұрын
Willi six I was right, I applied too much cream. I removed it and started over, using much less, and it fixed the problem. The cracking never came back. I wish he would have mentioned this in the video or at least mentioned this information in my comment but instead he accused me of doing something I told him I didn't do and ignored me when I comfirmed with him I didn't do it. I'm still a little upset with him but it's over. He does have an enormous amount of talent though and I still appreciate all his work.

Not meaning to answer for Preston, however what I use is a damp rag to wipe your shoes down, then brush them vigorously, and then go over them with a buffing towel preferably microfiber and they should be just fine.

Super! Do you dilute the dye at all? How about the application of the dye on to the brush. Do you dab the brush in the dye then re-dab to remove excess?
@TheElegantOxford
@TheElegantOxford 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t dilute the dye, I just dab it on a paper towel to get the excess off so it doesn’t drench the leather. I just put a small corner of the brush in the dye initially. It absorbs it pretty quickly so I don’t leave it in long.

One question I have, is that should you use the dominant colour of wax when doing a mirror shine on burnished shoes? For example, I have a pair of wingtip Derby Brogues that are light brown, but have a darkish brown patina at the point of the shoe, so should I use light brown polish when doing the mirror shine? at

Awesome job! But on the acetone, Hmmm well. My first response was, NOOOO, LOL. However, I see you really had no choice, I'd just do it rarely, which you probably do. BUT.... I believe you should have used MULITPLE applications of conditioner/cream (3-4 times) and as I'm sure you know, just don't over do it, but you must rejuvenate the dried leather. If not I'd just use a dark conditioning cream instead of the dye but you explained you didn't want to do that but I think I would here as the alcohol dye (if it is) will dry them out even further. I'd also wear some type of glove that doesn't break down with the acetone just to keep it off my skin if you have to do this for up to 2 hours. They look great and maybe I'm being overly cautious.
