I have lived in Canada my entire life and I am almost 60 years old. Beaver Tails, are a tourist -invented Chain I have never in my entire life had one of these, nor, will I ever. THAT SAID,....Maple syrup , the real stuff, is definitely Canadian. I love your vidoes. Canada has two coasts....Come see us in Atlantic Canada!
@ve3yjt4 жыл бұрын
Beavertails started from a family run booth at an agricultural fair in rural Eastern Ontario. Not quite a tourist invented chain. Several years later, after they opened a booth in Ottawa’s Bytown Market, tourists discovered them and their popularity allowed them to expand the franchise far and wide.

Rumour has it, at the Grizzly House, it used to be a swingers club. If you looked at the tables inside, they had phones in them that connected to other tables. They could discreetly call other tables to “proposition” them! Great place for fondue!

Ok Alison love the laugh at 12:14 was PRICELESS. You were such a happy camper with all that delicious fondue on that bread. That's a very good restaurant. The food looked great. Great shots of the food and love your energy. Garlic butter makes everything better. The Hot Stones remind me of the delicious meal cooked on stone that an Indigenous family= in Peru cooked for us when we stayed with them. AMAZING editing as always Eric. By the way, could you watch our latest video, as we'd love to hear your thoughts as well.

While Mackinac (an island in upper Michigan) was technically a national park, it only existed from 1875 - 1895. Today the same area is a Michigan state park. So really Yellowstone is the only national park in North America older than Banff.

The best beaver tail IMHO is the one with cinnamon, sugar, and lemon juice, but there is no such thing as a bad beaver tail. We'll be passing through Banff ourselves on Saturday, on our way to visit family about an hour NW of Calgary. We were so impressed with your van, that we contacted Noma and made a date to go into Calgary to see their wares while we are in the area. We're so excited!! You guys definitely did a great job of choosing places to eat in this video. I'm going to have to go make myself something to eat RIGHT NOW.

Dave Holt actually, pork belly is a prized cut all over the world, but thanks for the uncalled-for personal attack, jackass! Also, there’s no such thing as “American Bacon”, but you don’t seem to know that.
@2345434a5 жыл бұрын
I dunno why back bacon is so heavily associated with Canada. In Canada, like in the states, side bacon (a.k.a, bacon) is far more common. In the UK though when they talk about “bacon” they always mean back bacon. For some reason it’s far more common there despite not being as tasty imo.
@afcgeo8825 жыл бұрын
2345434a It’s not back bacon as in rashers. It’s just that same back cut, but cut thick and cured - ham, that’s called Canadian Bacon in the States, probably because those round slices were often used in Canada, I’m guessing by the Quebecois, instead of belly/side bacon that was used in New England/New York back in the day, so the name stuck. Actual back bacon is used in the UK and Ireland.

If you have time there are a couple beautiful hikes close to Banff you will love. Just West of Banff is Johnston Canyon hike with a short and long trail to 2 different falls (beautiful and easy hike), and on your way back to Calgary swing by Canmore (lots to see, eat and drink there)...but just outside Canmore is Grassi Lakes Trail (this one will absolutely blow you away!!). It is fantanstic to see you guys traveling right around my neck of the woods lol. Hope you enjoy your time here (too bad you just missed the Calgary Stampede. We did the hot stone as that was more fun. The Cheese fondue was really good and the Chocolate thing at the end. It was a little pricy but worth it for a special ocassion. Banff is crazy expensive. The entire town is priced like a ski resort. Being “inside” a National park, everything is very regulated, right to water use and waste, which makes running ANY sort of business very expensive. All things considered, a 4 course dinner starting at $47.95 isn’t crazy.
