IF and when you upgrade to something newer , bring to a Certified mechanic 1st to make sure everything is right. Then if you purchase and have the funds , install a 2000 watt solar system ( 4 ( 500 watt solar panels ) thatll help power the RV when off grid anything less is not good .... and a simple water filtration under the kitchen sink

On the A/C, you have the "dump" vent open so it blows straight down for quick cooling. It's best to close that by reaching up and sliding it closed. This will force the cool air to go through the vents and cool the whole space front to back evenly. Just my two cents.

It's crazy how much these new luxury RVs and Travel Trailers cost.....they are made so cheap. We are living in a very nice 2017 travel trailer. Has everything, even a fireplace. But everything is plastic and breaks so easy. Clementine will be good for as long as someone loves her.

What is so interesting (and why we started following your channel a while back) is we bought a vintage class C about the same age as yours. It's in excellent condition. And, after camping in it for a couple of years and meeting other people with newer ones, I'd choose ours hands down over the new ones out there. Stuff just seems to have been made better back then.

@@J.R._ "built much better then anything our there now" - apart from the grammar, that's simply not true. It depends on the make, year and quality tier; some are entry level and lower quality, while others are incredibly high quality. There are pros and cons, whether vintage or newer. I won't go into that here, though - otherwise I'd be writing a novel :)

So with campers quality varies a great deal based on price. We have had high end all fiberglass small trailers that last forever, literally never leaks, furniture is plastic , never fails, all the way down to the mass produced traditional. The ones that last a super long time are always going to be aluminum or all fiberglass including the roof. The stick constructed aluminum sided ones have lasted because the original owners kept them from getting wet, probably garaged or covered its whole life and thats why they are still on the road like Clementine.

For the air conditioner. You have the direct discharge vent open. That’s why it’s so noisy and breezy while it’s running. Close it and it will then send the cool air via the ceiling vents. The front vent on the air conditioner is the intake air. The rear has a sliding damper. Slide it closed.

You really need to be a good do-it-yourselfer and outdoor enthusiast to RV in my opinion. Our new 2020 Off Road trailer has needed some kind of repair every single time we have taken it out, but we really use it well. I always get everything fixed very quickly thanks to Amazon, have the parts waiting for me when I get home, but its a constant battle. Unless they are molded 2 piece Egg Style trailers like the Casita or all Aluminum, its effectively 6 walls boxed together and glue shot on all the seams and they are taped shut with rubber molding and thats all of them, regardless, so water leaks is the number 1 issue. 2 years in, we already had to deal with about 3 leaks, however, they are very very easy to repair with just stuff from Home Depot and everyone has an RV section now with the special RV sealants. You just have to stay on top of it. Dad had a Coachman, nice RV but it also had the same issues as they all do.

About Black Tank Odor Problems: When my wife and I started full-time RV living we had black tank smell issues. Started with the orange colored, so-called tank treatments from Camping World and Walmart... If anything, they made it smell worse. (Think how Sean Connery might say "citrus.") I forget how we found it, but we ordered some Happy Camper's Tank Treatment on Amazon, and it just works amazing. It liquifies everything into a nearly oder-free slurry that slides right on out your stinky slinky. No problems with septic systems. There are similar treatments that work pretty well, but we keep coming back to the Happy Camper stuff.

While I totally agree with your old rebuilt unit looking much better, I use my RV for weekend getaways and some longer trips and yes its cheaply built junk but its a 36ft fifth wheel with three slides and its pretty roomy and comfy and all I need to go enjoy the week or weekend at a nice lake or campsite and its perfect for that. I bought mine one year old a few years back and paid $25k cash for it which was about $13k less then they guy I bought it from paid so it was a smoking deal and is still worth close to $25k possibly more now. I plan to use the crap out of it and probably leave it to my kids when I'm gone or sell it some day way down the road when I cant deal with it anymore. RV's are like boats, you love and hate them and have to constantly work on them but to me they are both worth it for all the pleasure and adventure you get out of them. I'm pretty handy with a wrench and that to me is part of the enjoyment, working on them.

We have a 1994 Winnebago Adventurer 34 foot we just bought and luckily in very good condition. Still plan several modern upgrades over 1994 specs that also will help with weight and power use. Removing the LP water tank that only holds 6 gallons for an instant heat unit. Upgrading fridge to 120v only. No propane use so removing system for reduced weight. The chevy 454 gets us 11 mpg with just over 40K miles and weight reduction plans should help boost that a little. Total new cooling and AC system on driven unit, roof unit works fine. as well as full brake system rebuild. Reworking the entire roof and reinforcing it to try and prevent leaks, had a leak a few years back fixed from paperwork that came with it. I build boats for a living so plan to style the roof a bit to accommodate the vents and AC units and other items then will gelcoat it completely rather than use a rubber roofing compound. Maybe install a few solar panels on top to boot. Already ordered Dish for Outdoors to install as well as a retract screen and projector to save space on a TV. Roof AC units have both cool and heat so will remove the "central heat" system for weight. Ours oddly did not have a leveling system on it but will find one second hand to install soon so added weight there but they also help when you have a flat and carrying a 12 ton bottle jack sucks. Slight delamination on sides from age but nothing serious to worry about it can be fixed easily. Last piece of technology it will get will be a roof mounted VR360 camera hooked to my old 5TB DVR for some cool youtube videos when on the road.

Wow! You got me...I thought you’d traded. Nice comparison. I hope when you get Clementine back soon and at 100%! She is a beauty and a treasure. Much love from SC, Jane❤️🙏🏻

Haha, sorry for the scare! We could never sell our little Clementine. Although those slide outs made us think about it for a second 😅 Keeping our fingers and toes crossed that Clementine feels better soon!

If you use the black tank properly and keep it well vented you'll never even know it was there.

Get a moonshade for Clementine? Great super easy to use as awning. Easy up and down. Marilyn C.

The do sell swivel kits for custom Van's, try salvage yards probably way cheaper than manufacturer or E-Bay?

Instead of an awning, look into MoonShade portable vehicle awnings. Much easier on the budget and so very light.

We have a Dometic 10 cu ft 2 way refrigerator (propane or 120 electric) in our 2003 Newmar Dutch Star diesel pusher and our freezer(orig) gets below zero and the frig gets down to 33-36 with no problem so I don't know what's wrong with the one in your rental or what might be set wrong. We only run ours on propane for the first 2 hours to get the freezer and frigerator initially cold and then switch to 120v and we run it on an inverter while traveling. Safe travels. !

Still like the '76er' Thanks. Been trying to find a 2005-15 T5 lwb Transporter to 'fix' as a camper. Little later than your 76er but just as good.

I'm originally from Kansas (Kansas City area) and wanted to thank you for traveling to Kansas. I watch a ton of rv videos and everyone always skips it lol. I think there's a lot of beautiful spots. Especially the flint hills! Prairies can be gorgeous! Very Kansas that you randomly got attacked by a rooster though haha.

Make sure you put aside a few bucks for gas money in California. With any luck it'll go down significantly (doubtful) before you get here. We just recently got down below $6.00 per gallon for the cheap stuff. ( I just did the math: at our current prices, it will take just about as much money to fill Clementine's 30 gallon tank as it just did to fill NotClementine's 40 gallon tank)

KZbin recommended this video... how cute to see a young man having so much fun travelling with his mom! People don’t take the time for family anymore 🤗🥰

AH! We stayed at Lake Scott last year and were also pleasantly surprised by it. I didn't expect Kansas to look like that. Since you are in that area, you MUST go to Monument Rocks! It's due east of Little Jerusalem and so unexpected in the middle of no where.

I saw the caption and said nooooo then watched the video and calmed down 🤣. Love the channel. Happy camping!!

For way less you could put a newer diesel motor and HD Trans in clementine. Old rigs with new drivetrains are the way to go.

Ahhh I used to live about 40 mins from Lake Scott and loved camping there!
