When i was child (no internet)I was thirsty to learn about the transistor. I remember reading books from older classes. And all said a bunch of useless things, about electrons, holes, etc.,and how this work, and the only thing they didn't say just the simple central idea. with a practical example, like you do with water. With this simple example of yours, even my 8years old little nephew can understand in a minute what the transistor does. This is the education system, the books, and the teachers in my country.(Greece).

This a really clear explanation of the transistor, however, that gate in the pipe where the water cannot open it no matter how much in it because it opens and closes sideways needs a spring to come back to being closed, otherwise it won't close even if you stop the water from coming out, especially at the place where it goes backwards when it opens, so this is a really a good example, when the water going in the other pipe is filled up enough, it will push that gate, and thus that gate will pull the rope and it will pull the gate of the other pipe and that water will flow with the other water together.
