I have a similar experience with Tudor. I had the BB GMT - found it too heavy. Tried the new 41 on jubilee a whim (like you, my wife liked it). Sold it a year later. I just got a Rolex Explorer 2, black dial. Fits my 7inch wrist beautifully, and it gets noticed by people into watches. I love it, slimmer than the BB GMT was, but great presence. Tudor is a bit of an odd brand, as every model has something more iconic in the level up brother Rolex.

@@mkyhou1160 I have a DJ and YM Rolex watches, a Tudor BB GMT that I will swap for the 58 GMT for better fitment. Rolex is the most uncool watch, it is a high end fashion watch. I will be happy to offload my Rolex, I will keep my vintage DJ and Tudor GMT 58 if I can get one. Everybody owns a Rolex either real of fake making it super uncool for people who want to be noticed, it attracts the wrong attention. I think IMO Tudor is the better brand albeit not the better watch.

This is a load of rubbish. Just purchased this piece and im blown away by the fit, the dial and the colourway. This is a one a done. Got rid of all my rolex pieces as ticks all the boxes imo from diving 200 metres, ant magnetic metas certified.this channel never mentioned that so i thinking hell be running back to shop he returned it.. Honestly this piece is a one and done and ive finally found it. Dont get brain washed by all the channels online talking about gilt dial etc. Its absolutely stunning. See it in person. Try it. This blends a yactmaster rose gold dial with a gmt coke. Imo the gmt coke is brighter and more bland. This burgundy dial pops and perfectly executed. My advice get it quick before it you cant!

@gongkia2000 I know pal. Strong statement. See it in person, wasn't a fan of any of their stuff before, especially when considering value retention. Check it out though. This is a piece for the future. The dial and colour combination are on the nail. Its a 126610 in a 39mm case without the cyclops and ceramic ball bearing clasp. Making the dial smaller imo gives it a more refined look. Rolex maxi dial cases on the new models imo are too large, hour markers I mean and ceramic bezel is too blingly shiny and looks bland. Why had one, sold it, never looked back. Arguably this is rolexs version on the new sub 126610ln in a 39 case without cyclops, a glit dial, gmt function, diving 200metres water resistant and anti magnetic to 15,000 gauss. On paper it's a one stop shop and done, then I saw it, bought it and now realise this is a piece. Remove all the influencing on line, where everyone has the same script, regurgitating it out like sheep...bah bah! go in try it on! Over and out.

How does this "not offer anything above" the GS GMT? - A rotating two tone GMT bezel to track a 3rd time zone - A METAS certified automatic mvmt, vs a ticking quartz mvmt (not even spring drive). THIS cheapens the collection way more IMO - Enough lime to actually read the correct time in the dark instead of an approximation - A comfortable, solid bracelet with fantastic T-Fit micro adjustment - Decent residual value Seems like an absolute no brainer to keep the BB58 GMT and ditch the GS, but ymmv. PS - I bought and love a BB58 GMT

I tried the BB 58 GMT 2 months ago and I prefer the original. Fits better on my big wrist and I prefer the silver on hands and markers and the red on GMT hand. Also I like more the Matt blue and red bezel than the black and red, but I hate shiny bezels.I know it’s Metas certified and it has the T-Fit clasp, but despite that and as I said before, I prefer the original one. I love my bLack bay pro and I think this also looks great. That said I think one gmt is more than enough and the Seiko is fantastic, as a bonus it’s quartz so it’s a watch that does not require messing with to wear. I assumed I would have a lot off grief if I had tried to take my Tudor back as they had taken all the stickers off and there was nothing wrong with it.

My authorized dealer contacted me twice, first to offer the BB58 GMT and then, months later, the Tudor Chronograph Blue. Initially, I was impressed by the press releases and videos, and I really liked it. However, in person, it felt underwhelming to me. Maybe it's just my perception. Surprisingly, while passing by a Seiko boutique, I came across a Seiko Prospex LX model that I had previously overlooked online. I instantly fell in love with it. It might sound crazy and irrational, but that’s how I felt about the purchase, and I have no regrets.

I know what you mean - the same thing happened to me with an Oris and a Longines. If it doesn't fit in your lineup then it's better to part with it. BB 58 GMT is an excellent watch (and would make a good candidate for a one or two watch collection), but if you have watches you actually prefer to wear which perform the same function then there's little point in having it. We are not going to live forever so it makes sense to get maximum enjoyment from our favourite possessions while we can.

I still believe the BB58 GMT is still one of the best Tudors in the catalog right now but seems like most of your reasons for returning the watch are more... personal. Completely understandable of course if a watch doesn't simply click or have no place in your current collection. Like for me, I could never get this watch because I already own a Pepsi so it would be too redundant to own two GMTs that have very similar colors.

I think you nailed it. It's a great watch, but it's definitely - and I say this without negativity - an entry point to the "luxury" side of watch collecting. If you're a young man or woman looking with a few grand saved up and wanting to get a new watch with a ton of features from a decent brand... Tudor is here for you. But if you are established with a large or growing collection of higher end brands, then it doesn't always work - it's too expensive to be a no-thought purchase (like a moonswatch or something might be).

At least you tried it Andy, you might have walked away and pondered the what if you didn't find one again. A great watch without doubt but sometimes we need to have a little time with a watch before we decide if it's a keeper or not. I have the 41 GMT for some years now and I think it's OK on my 7" wrist, it's thicker than the new 58 GMT but also a larger diameter so the proportions may not be too different. I guess aesthetically I prefer my 41 over the new one as the guilt bits over power it a tad compared to my old one. I certainly cannot justify both in my collection. If I didn't have my 41 I would certainly give it a try though.

I had a similar although opposite feeling for a Rolex Explorer 2 ‘polar’ that I bought. I realized I hadn’t done enough to earn the watch, it was more expensive than I should spend in my current situation, it would make me nervous to wear it, and I wanted to have a significant watch mark a significant occasion. Just buying for the sake of buying felt like it cheated or cheapened the experience.

I can understand that you returned it, totally. I have collected watches now for over 30 years, it took off the last 4-5 years really. I have now come to a point that I get easily bored with most new models that arrive, they are just a slight variation of something I know very well. What interests me now is generally vintage watches, great models which also has developed some kind of personality, all it patina, maybe an interesting story behind it, whatever. Also of course I am looking at more traditional brands like Breguet, JLC, Patek, Lange, but also older Speedmaster, Heuer from 60’s and 70’s, plus obscure watches from for example Zodiac, Perrelet etc. Still a vintage Rolex with the right vibes is always interesting! When I look in the window I often find myself looking at Tudor as they DO have quality watches and they DO have interesting designs, still I never get that feeling that “I want one”. Not often do with new watches anyway but…

Nothing wrong with that Tudor, but honestly, if one wanted a really nice GMT watch, they could do a lot worst than picking a second hand IWC 3251 UTC, which can be found for GBP 3k or less. It's also a lot less conspicuous than any of these Rolex GMT Master based designs, so you can actually wear it while traveling (or walking down the streets of London).

Haha. Had a similar experience recently Andy. Mine was with the Tudor Chronograph Panda (white dial). I took it home and the damned thing just looked huge on me. Looked fine in the shop. Anyway, I took it back and bought a Grand Seiko Shunbun, which is a really nice watch, a keeper (for now, LOL). I also have the 6.75 inch left wrist and I'm tending towards 39mm's. Recent purchases are the Tag Glass Box Panda (39mm...great watch), and several IWCs (Mark XVI and Mark XX) along with a couple of Rolexes that were offered. But I'm changing the way I do things as well. I just have too many watches that are never worn. What a waste. Someone could be enjoying them and I could buy a Lange One or even something more interesting if I got rid of the extraneous ones. I'll continue to buy from the AD when they have something Rolex as I consider that a good habit. I've sold a few off over the years as they became old. Always made money unlike other brands. Anyway I have considered this watch that you returned and for some reason I'm shying away. I've been offered one and just did not respond (blast text so not discourteous of me). Enjoying your journey. Thanks for sharing. Jim in St Louis, Missouri.

I like the Tudor watches in general, but two things really annoy me, well maybe three. The first is the jungle of models that is very similar but with small differences that I never get my head around to understand, with Rolex the differences between the models are much more logical and easier to recognise. Second there is the snowflake hands, I find them awkward and not sleek and elegant like they should be, thirdly I also find that many of them are too thick. I have had several Tudors, now I only have two I think, they are older models, one from 1962 and another from 1999, they don’t have the dreaded snow flake hands and they look elegant, not too thick either.

Owned a few Tudor’s and they always leave me feeling a bit hollow and like I’ve bought a homage rather than the real thing. The marketing and the David Beckham connection is really cringy and off putting for me too. I do like them and they’re making progress unlike Omega who seem to be going backwards if anything and I’m sure a new Black bay 58 is coming out next year and that’s going to be very interesting. My AD has two 58 GMT’s in the window and the colours and gilt bits along with the sheen bezel all looks a bit over the top for me but it’s Tudor so they will milk this model to death with various colours in the future.

So lets just use brands as an example. You are past the Longines, christopher ward, tudor, oris type and currently in the Omega, IWC, JLC phase. I myself have a 10 watch rule and i can only wear so many of my watches, so I'd like each watch that take a slot in my watch box to have a meaning and purpose. In that sense, I can understand your perspective. But.i do leave 2 slots to fun pieces (such as my studio underd0g watermelon and my Zerootime M1). I don't think its a good idea to be too rigid with your watch collection. Some exceptions can be made, because sometimes we might just love how a watch looks despite the brand equity. I think the Longines spirit zulutime 39 is one of the best watches out there right now. Amazing design and value, But from how you are describing your watch collecting journey, that piece is not going to be up for consideration for you. Which is fine but I think it can limit your choice alot going forward. Then again there are plenty of choices too in the JLCs, IWCs and Omegas. Love the video and always look forward to your videos.

@@TheEnglishWatch I would highly suggest checking out the Longines flagship moon phase and the Longines spirit Zulutime 39. Unbelievable value for what you’re getting. When I got hands on with it(Zulutime 39), it was a no brainer. Perhaps the lower cost might even sweeten the deal considering how much watch you’re getting for your money. Also on the yema, I have seen videos of it, it does look really cool and I’d love to get hands on with it. Micro rotors are rare to get at an affordable price.

“Cheapened my collection” reminds me of the archieluxury black bay burgundy moment of shame in a restaurant when a guy walked in with a Patek and a lady the pootiph fancied. Everyone picked on him when he confessed, but now I sort of see the point too. I have 2 Tudors and 36 other watches (I just buy what I like too…so not a systematic collector). To be honest, the Tudors are definitely at the low end of the spectrum, cost wise. Normal people mistake them for Rolex watches (normal people don’t know watches much) so the shame of wearing a lowly Tudor is just in the wearer’s mind (if the wearer knows too much for his own good).

I’ve been offered this 3 times by the boutique at Gatwick but I want to see it in real life first. I think most people wanted the original Tudor Pepsi GMT in a 39mm rather than this gilt version 🤔

Great video, and I totally relate to your reason for not liking it. But I'm staggered that they took it back. Does that now make it a 2nd hand watch, as the warranty card is now dated? I'd like to understand how that works from the dealer's perspective.

TBH, I didn't want to hang around and ask. I suspect they can get a new warranty card as the watch is back in the window as new.

I saw one in the shop window last weekend and tried it on for size. I have the Tudor Blackbay GMT and was considering replacing this if Tudor bring out a similar colour scheme, I'm not a fan of the gilt finish. Anyway... the only thing that put me off was the bezel action - it felt quite loose compared with my Blackbay GMT. Not read any reviews mentioning this - so wonder if this was one-off or if I'm being ultra picky.

Selling on eBay for £3300 new or best offer. I love a grand Seiko but your sells less than £1900 on the secondary market and I think the price is reflective of the difference in the watches. While the gmt is not for you, I don’t think you can compare both watches. I once spent £15k on a root beer gmt Rolex and ended up taking it back. I tried to justify it to myself by saying it was too flashy and I had other watches. The truth is, it was a large amount of money that I could do better things with.

I bought this watch lightly used at just under retail and then sold it 1 month later. At first, I had a hard time pinpointing what exactly motivated me to sell it. Then I realized why: Next to my Grand Seiko collection, the Tudor felt crude in comparison and I don’t mean in a tool watch sort of way. I mean in regards to level of finishing for the same price. See, I buy preowned GS’s for less than 5k and I truly feet that GS in this price bracket offers the best ROI. It took me 10 years of watch collecting to finally realize this. I even sold my 3 Rolex watches. I now have 4 hand picked GS’s (including the Shunbun) that I absolutely adore.

I think you were wise to return it, just too slab sided. I do think if one is to get a GMT the Rolex is the way to go. Yes it's more expensive but it's so much more of a watch - and as you say you want to level up, it was not the right watch for you.
