I love Tiber Septim lore. He's basically a player character made canon: Shows up out of nowhere, wins every battle, has a random superpower. I think he just went to the emperor to turn in a quest, tried to see if he could kill him, and then realised he hadn't saved in days so had to keep the save going.

The fact that Sissel seems to be having 'visions' or 'dreams' about Paarthurnax and Alduin just adds to the intrigue. If you speak to Sissel there is the chance that she'll mention having a dream about two dragons, one, black and evil, one white and friendly. He wasn't punishing him though, he was protecting him. However, the game does give a better hint if you read between the lines. He is a master fencer, thus it is more likely, Dark Brotherhood used him for gaining special info and being able to move items that they couldn't do themselves. I also don't believe when he says it is like what happed to the Dark Brotherhood, he meant he was betrayed, just that the Dark Brotherhood was betrayed and they were, that's how many of them got wiped out, before Skyrim. Maybe the rorikstead mage "teaching" the young girl magic in secret is a way for him to perform a ritual on her (and all young women before child birthing age) to prepare her to be sacrificed without her realizing she is a target of his magic/rituals. It seems like a great way to keep the victims quiet and willing to participate. Pretend that it's their little secret from the village so the girls wont raise any suspicions towards him, AND under the guise of magic lessons theyd willingly walk in and participate in magical rituals the dont understand. My last point is REALLY stretching but teaching her to "put out candles"... how many times have we seen in movies someone sitting in the middle of a ritual surrounded by candles and when some dark evil spirit shows up ominous stuff starts happening including all the candles getting put out. :o

I feel like delvin’s reference to the dark brotherhood “stabbed in the back, it’s like the dark brotherhood all over again” is just a reference to sneak and stab attacks that the brotherhood are best known for, and is just a play on words rather than a reference to any deeper meaning. But interesting to think something else might be going on!
@Lemunde5 жыл бұрын
Regarding the backstabbing in the Dark Brotherhood, it may simply be that Delvin witnessed a lot of backstabbing while he was in the Dark Brotherhood and didn't fall victim to it himself. It speaks to the current state of the Dark Brotherhood in that they haven't been strictly following the five tenets, emphasizing their more thug-like behavior.
@c-puff5 жыл бұрын
Isn’t it also possible Delvin meant “it’s the dark brotherhood all over again” in that he wasn’t responsible for accidentally committing murder but was framed for it, sending him to the dark brotherhood as a scapegoat for something he didn’t do? Much like how the current thieves guild leader got himself where he is. Maybe he did this kind of trick before and Delvin was just the fall guy at the time.

One of the greatest mysteries to me in Skyrim has always been the mystery of Why Bathesta didn't programme the NPC's of Riverwood Mill to use a vacant wood cutting block instead of the one you're using. So many times has fendral pushed me out of the way when I've been chopping Wood for gold to get training in the early stages that it gets annoying. Especially when there's a second chopping block at the mill. Why they didn't program them to use the one you're not using I guess we'll never know 😂

I had my theory that Delvin (like his fixation with Vex) had the same feelings for Astrid and instead of shutting them down leads him on.. but still marries Anbiorn (sorry for the spelling).

When Delvin mentions about backstabbing, couldn’t he just mean it in a literal sense, like, assassins LITERALLY stab people in the back for a living.

I have a mystery I've always wondered about. After you find the Eye of Magnus, and later return, it's now at the College of Winterhold. How did they move it from one spot to the other? It doesn't look like it would fit through any door.

It seems obvious from the suggestive way they talk about each other that Delvin and Astrid used to be lovers. Also Delvin seems to be quite the "player" (or at least tries to be, as suggested by some letters between him and Vex found in the Ragged Flagon). I suspect that relationship came to an end when Astrid settled down with Arnbjorn. There probably was a betrayer in the Dark Brotherhood during his time there, but I don't think it was Astrid. In fact, I suspect it was whoever the leader was that recruited Astrid. She's still fairly young and says she was recruited by someone else. She leads the chapter when we meet her, but she didn't found it. Delvin's comparison to his time in the Brotherhood seems to me to suggest that, just like the Mercer incident, the betrayal came from the leadership. Ironically, if this is true, Astrid ends up repeating history.

I always thought the eye of Magnus was something the nords either found or stole and the snow elves were trying to get it away from people who didn't understand it/would misuse it. I also think ysgrmar knew damn well that it existed and that's why the snow elves attacked and that's the real reason he had such a hard on to kill them. He thought they took the eye and was trying to find it again.
@garymaidman625 Жыл бұрын
If the other orb from ESO was built by elves and the Eye of Magnus is almost identical, then surely it was elves who built EoM too. Maybe it was the snow elves that built it and maybe it was the Nords that stole it from them and the snow elves were only trying to take back what was rightfully theirs. Maybe the Nords are the true villains and the snow elves got screwed by the Nords before they got screwed by the Dwemer.

Rorikstead was definitely meant to have more quests behind it. I feel like there's a lot of cut content around it. There's a lot of lines that don't make sense in accordance with others. There was definitely at least meant to be a questline about the soil, and I bet the Daedra worship was supposed to play a big role in it or something to that effect.

I feel like the eye of magnus stores magic in it for later use. Especially since the staff drains magic from enemies. It would make sense you use the staff to steal magic then you store mass amounts inside of it holding more magic than a mortal could possibly hold. Kind of my theory

Honestly, I always thought hagravens and forsworn briarhearts were essentially gender counterparts. Might have just had a poor impression, but I thought the ritual to make a forsworn into a briarheart had to be overseen by a hagraven. I might need to perform more research on this on my own

A very good point to be considered/better explained: The timeline between the Dragon War - and all the Dragon Cult regime that came before - and Ysgramor’s dynasty. It was never quite explained how those two intertwined during the Merethic Era.
@parumpadump78725 жыл бұрын
It's a healthy guess, but I would assume that when Delvin spoke of Mercer's treachery and the Dark brotherhood, he was referencing the events of the Brotherhood questline in Oblivion from 200 years ago, where *spoiler alert* there was a traitor in the black hand pulling strings from behind the curtain, which actually almost lead them to ruin. The Thieves Guild got into a similar enough situation at that moment, so he likely made the natural comparison to an event he'd probably know something about given that he was in the Brotherhood for a time. Buuut depending on when it triggers (after or regardless of completing the Brotherhood Questline), he could be referencing the more recent treachery of Astrid. It'd take some sleuthing to figure out for sure tho :)

A few years ago a friend who is very into Elder Scrolls lore told me the full story about the Eye of Magnus. I heard this through word of mouth, so it will need to be verified, but it's worth looking into. The reason everyone can tell the eye is powerful, yet no one has seen anything like it, and no one really knows what it does, is because it's not actually magic as they know it in the Elder Scrolls universe. Rather, it is technology so advanced that it is indistinguishable from magic. The eye is an asteroid mining machine from the future that somehow got sent back in time to the present day.
