Maiq actually does say things of relevance. For example, when he says Skyrim was once a land of many butterflies, he's referrin to a bug in the early stages of Skyrim's production where butterflies would overspawn so much that they'd lag out the game.

The interesting thing about Saadia is that while the mercenaries claim they intend to bring her back to Hammerfell for a fair trial, if you turn her in to them, you can later track them down to find them heading back to Hammerfell without her. Really late to the party but that was my thought as well Mora had access to such knowledge and would make sense that he would want a thriving powerful dragonborn to replace Miraak as his champion. Not really a theory or an answer, but I find it interesting that the Dwemer, who enslaved the Snow Elves and turn them into the blind Falmer, are also interested in decoding Elder Scrolls, which have been known to blind people who view them too much. Maybe they used the Falmer as 'stunt readers' who would read the scrolls, transcribe or dictate the contents, then they were blinded, leaving their bosses the Dwemer with the information, and working eyesight :)
@reddeaddude21872 жыл бұрын
That's pretty genius actually. It's officially in my head canon now. Thank you
@Norah_86012 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting theory but I think it is unlikely, because in the main questline you have to obtain an Elder Scroll from a Dwemer Contraption, Which I think they used the lenses on it to transcribe the information on a Lexicon like the one you have to interact with, by the buttons that control the machine. Still I could be wrong but I like your theory a lot too.
@hughman13562 жыл бұрын
Cool theory... but dont you find out in game that the dwemer poisoned them with mushrooms or something?
@leonmuller84752 жыл бұрын
The Dwemer had no such problems reading the Elder Scrolls. They just constructed a device to safely read Elder Scrolls. You can see it in Skyrim, when you enter Blackreach to get the Dragon Elder Scroll. The getting blinded by an Elder Scroll thing, is just what happens to normal stupid mortals (aka every playable race in the main line Elder Scrolls games). Not geniuses like the Dwemer.

Note for the Ebony Warrior, It's stated in the lore that Shouting isn't just reserved for the Dovahkiin or the Greybeards. Anyone can do it but for a normal person, it'll take YEARS to master ONE shout. Plus the Ebony Warrior isnt the only NPC who can shout that isnt Greybeard or Dragonborn. Ulfric can too and he's neither. He trained with the Greybeards for a majority of his life before moving to lead the Stormcloak Rebellion.

If my memory of Skyrim's story and lore aren't too rusted out, I have some clarifications to add to that statement. Keep in mind, my memory sucks, so if anyone has reliable information that contradicts mine, I myself would probably favor that as well. To the best of my ability, here it is: When he says that shouts are thought to be reserved for the dragonborn and the Greybeards, he's not entirely wrong. If not accounting for entities currently residing in a state of unlife, or who are just straight up dead, the Greybeards ARE the only ones who can use shouts aside from dragons, of either the born or created/resurrected variety. Ulfric, if I recall right, was training under the Greybeards toward the ultimate goal of BECOMING one of them, but dropping out half way through because war. This does indeed enrich the mystery of the Ebony Warrior, because it then, if critically analyzed, makes you question; is this a previous dropout Greybeard? A case of learn and leave? Absorb and abscond? Study and 'seeya later, buddy'? It IS, in the main playable time period, an oddity amongst living humanoid NPCs, to be able to shout, which is why a vast majority of NPCs are surprised or amazed when you go around screaming dragon magic around them.
@perciusmandate Жыл бұрын
The Elder Scrolls are the games themselves. Elder Scrolls are a mix of chronicle and prophesy. They typically detail times when Nirn will face great challenges and the deeds of heroes to overcome those challenges. Before the fulfillment of the prophesy, the Scrolls contain every possible outcome or variation of the future that might be. It is only after the prophesy is fulfilled that the Scrolls become fixed and immutable. But the Scrolls change depending on who reads them. And whatever the reader reads becomes the true history of Tamriel. The dragon Parthuurnax describes them as fragments of creation. When we play the games, we are both reading and writing one of the Scrolls. We are transported to a time and place in Tamriel where a great challenge arises. We follow the adventures of a great hero to overcome those challenges. Whenever we read one of the Scrolls by playing the game, we look into all of the possible futures that might be and create a version of the prophesy that is. And because the Scrolls can change with each reading, anyone who plays the game creates their own version of the prophesy. All of which becomes Tamriel's reality.

Uurag's description of the Elder Scrolls following that response clarifies how the scrolls relate to the series in a cool way. "They're a record of all possible pasts and all possible futures." Another interesting coincidence about how dragon shouts are related to tonal magic and the dwarves! With the dragon aspect shout you're basically conjuring this ancient dragonborn. And this is not the only time this happens. In Sovngard, you also learn the "call hero" shout to have a nord hero to come and aid you. Now it seems to me that the first nords were much closer with the dwemer than what we know. And the dragon cult's presense even in blackreach seems to emerge concidering you meet that dragon down there.

I think my favorite interpretation of what the Elder Scrolls are is the theory that they are, in essence, an in-universe version of the TES game discs. They contain every possible scenario, past, present, and future, that could occur within a certain span of time; in other words, they’re the data of the game itself. The Eye of Magnus was probably an artifact from Aetherius, given that it's covered in the same sort of glyphs that the Elder Scrolls are covered in. Ancano probably contacted the Thalmor back in Alinor, and they told him what it was, as their magical knowledge is far more advanced than those of the Nords, and the Psijics seem to know what it is, too. The line about "the power to unmake the world at my fingertips!" is the goal of the Thalmor, who- copying real-world Gnostic beliefs- think the material world and its makers were evil and wish to see the world undone to that the elves will supposedly resume their alleged divinity in a timeless, immaterial realm of pure ideas. The Thalmor are trying to destroy the world, as they believe this will free them and grant them divinity, erasing the material plane forever. They've shut down or destroyed a number of towers the world of Nirn needs to remain stable, and after Skyrim, it seems as if the very last operational Tower is the first; the Adamantine Tower (or Direnni Tower) of High Rock. The Eye of Magnus can destroy the world, if the Psijics are correct. It might have been seen by Ancano as a way of speeding up the goal of the Thalmor.

It may be worth mentionning that Magnus was the creator god who brought into existence Mundus, and an entity who plays a bit of a role in the earlier periods of the world's existence. Still, this is clearly an artifact on par with the Heart of Lorhkan, being that it's literally a part of a god.

@@ETHANR26 It's basically the same premise. Remember, "gnostic" was a term invented over 1200 years after the last major Gnostic ideologies were around. They existed mostly in the Roman Empire and maybe a little earlier until about the 700s, when they were marginalized by the triumph of Christianity and the rise of Islam. Gnostic ideas would pop up from time to time (Paulicans, Bogomils, Cathars, etc), but never gained widespread acceptance as older Gnostic movements did, such as Manicheanism.

In Egyptian mythology, it is said that the God of Scribes, Thoth, has a scroll, sealed away in a vault in the heavens. In this scroll, everything that exists is described in detail, every event of the past is recounted, and all deeds and occurrences that are to be also are there. This is, at least in my mind, the clearest real life parallel to an Elder Scroll, and seems to be supported by the speculation in setting. Moth Priests are said to be able to sacrifice their sight to read the scrolls and their predictions from the scrolls always come true. Through the scrolls we see into the past as well, with perfect detail. Hell if memory serves me Alduin even acts as if we are present in that replay of time, either in the actual encounter or in the final boss fight. It could also be that, given the right situations, such as what the Dwemer were doing with the one they had, it might be possible to rearrange the factors of the scroll in a more Neoplatonic sense, and that the scrolls simply provide a definition to things like "What is a rock" or "What is causality" or "How do various principles and things interact with each other" that is mechanistic enough that it looks like prophecy, because there are a limited amount of realities that can play out given those factors arranged in that way. Ultimately tho, my money is on the Elder Scrolls being some sort of in universe microcosm of the in universe macrocosm of everything that is true in Elder Scrolls.

I still like to think that the ebony warrior is Tsun, based on the conversation you can have with him in Sovngarde. And the pen pal is Partysnax. He's the one meditating on the words, on their power. He knows best what damage they can do - and what good can be achieved. He helps the dragonborn to meditate on the words und understand how to navigate the path to knowledge. I am fascinated with the frequency of things happening that you mention. M'aiq is a "normal" sight for me, has not even that extended dialogue; the assassins come at least 3 times before I kill Astrid (I wonder if it has to do with me being on Switch, there are SO many things that never happen on my playthroughs, that happen on PC). Given that the Kahjiit have a "Dragonborn" storyline as well, he could maybe be the embodiment (and might be the mysteries friend!) from that part of the Elder Scrolls. Argh! I need to stop watching your videos - they always spiral me into a rabbit hole!

@@incognitoman3656 i think he just needs to move onto another game, he has milked skyrim to the point where he's essentially ran out of things to talk about which is why it takes him 6 to 12 months to get a video out. i just think he needs to broaden his horizons into another game.

@@incognitoman3656 i have seen him make a few of these videos, but i guess there isn't really to milk off of fallout or something, and he did only one video for GTA with that mount chiliad. but he hasn't done a whole lot else, and there are loads of games out there he could choose from, maybe these games don't really interest him? or maybe they were already answered in other game videos. i mean i would expect to see him move onto more games to be honest, but i know the reason why he chooses skyrim, it's because the game always gets the views, i mean the number of views is far larger and far more popular than most any other game, so that's why he comes back to it, but he's milked the hell out of it's content to the point where it's like he's trying to squeeze water out of a rock, but there is just not a whole lot there, this very video, the questions within were all questions he has already gone through in previous videos, although he went into more depth with those videos than this one.

I think M’aiq is one entity who inhabits different vessels over time. The body he’s using gets old and decrepit and he ditches it for another body. Perhaps this is something certain Khajiit choose to do willingly. I also believe the entity itself is something from the Khajiiti pantheon. Maybe it’s Baan Dar? He is the Khajiit god of cleverness and wisdom and all that I think.

There's something so calming and nostalgic about watching Skyrim videos. The music, the beautiful landscape, the characters and the lore. It's just wonderful and imo thee best game ever made. I know Game of Thrones is extremely similar to it but I sure would LOVE for this to be made into a series and for them to dive into all the mysteries and story lines. I think it would be as big as GOT, maybe bigger. Bethesda really knocked it out of the park when they made this game.
@reven032 жыл бұрын
So for M'aiq, from what I'm aware, he's essentially the way for the developers to immersively tell you why some things are limited in the game. Like the snow one. The snow flakes just goes away but miaq says they are pretty so just appreciate them 😅
@jialin72 жыл бұрын
The snow one I think is also about dynamic snow being cut. “Skyrim has enough snow, M’aiq does not want any more.”

Theory: The Skyforge was created during the Dawn War by Hircine and Kyne (The Hawk) to equip Lorkhan and the Wandering Ehlnofey against Auri-El and the Old Ehlnofey. After the death of Lorkhan, there was a schism between the Wandering Ehlnofey with the proto-Nedes going to the Reach with Hircine and the proto-Nords going to Atmora with Kyne. The Skyforge remains behind as a relic of a forgotten alliance. Evidence of the Hircine/Kyne alliance: *The Skyforge of the Hawk (Kyne) and the Underforge of Hircine share an ancient site that the descendents of Old Ehlnofey feared into the Merethic era. *In Khajii tales, Hircine allies himself with Khenarthi (alongside Azurah) to slay the elven god Y'ffer. *Both the Nords and Reachmen consider themselves followers of Shor/Lorkh -- even if they don't acknowledge one another. *Kyne's chosen son is Morihaus, a man-beast. This would be strange as minotaurs have been shown to be followers of Hircine. Maybe Minotaurs have an ancient connection between both Kyne and Hircine?

This makes a lot of sense IMO, and it may be a reason that the Nords of old even considered becoming man-beasts. They acknowledged the beast that is Kyne's child and the ancient alliance with Hercine.

With blackreach it’s quite possible the Dwemer discovered a dragon burial mound and began studying the remains, then when alduin returned the dragon was resurrected and trapped underground. However alduin has to go to the burial mounds to resurrect the dragons so another possibility is the Dwemer learned how to harness the power of the dragon tongue. This would line up with why you have to shout at the “sun” in order to summon the dragon

Underrated comment. I have a theory that the "tonal architecture" the dwemer used was just a form of Thu'um they managed to use without speaking the Dragon tongue.

Well, they kinda claim to be protected by massively powerful wards. And this has to be at least partially true since the bridge to the college is both traversable... but also broken to pieces, thus indicating that magic is the ONLY thing holding it together.
