Why just time as a mechanic in general? I personally think having that active clock in RE2 remake actually prompted players to want to replay the game faster and better than before.

If the game is built around the time limit, it works well. So it depends. There are also many ways to implement a time limit. You could say par in golf is a time (turn) limit, for example, which in that game is absolutely necessary since it determines your score. A well implemented time limit is one that gets the player to play more efficiently but also get them to take more risks, assuming that improving your efficiency and taking risks are core parts of the game. Time limits are very important for multiplayer turn-based games as well so that a player doesn't hold up the game. In my turn based game I have been working on, I added a 90 second timer to turns and it basically halved the length of our games from 40 minutes to 20.

He mentioned the Red Ring, but it reduces incoming damage BY 3/4 not TO 3/4, and Link possesses Red Chainmail which has the same effect. Meaning any and all incoming damage is reduced to 1/16th of its base value. The Hylian Shield is also completely indestructible, and in response to the heat argument, Link has multiple ways to be heat-proof. All of his runes could fuck up THE DOOMSLAYER; Stasis can get him stabbed 8 times at once, Mangesis could just move THE DOOMSLAYER around via his metal armor, bombs serve an obvious perpose, and Cryonis could potentially freeze all the water in THE DOOMSLAYER's cells, instantly turning him into a popsicle. Various musical instruments and their effects, Links gauntlets allow him to just start throwing everything from the terrain upward at THE DOOMSLAYER. Link can turn into a giant, summon lightning strikes, become completely immune to 3 attacks, revive himself, fuck with time, and has powers of the Golden Goddesses. Link has held the full Triforce, so it's as easy as "I wish THE DOOMSLAYER will lose to me in this fight." Done. Simple as that.

One in the mid section, knocks him down, and then one more in the face, if the damage reduction isn't 100% and he receives a headshot from a SUPER shotgun, he's a dead man idc. How is the Hylian shield Indestructible? its just a standard issue hylian branded steel shield used by its military. sure it can take a beating, but Shields aren't *bulletproof* . Link has clothing that protects him from extreme temperatures okay, but how would he change tunics in the heat of battle? that would at least take him a minute or two, and thats NOT time he has if theres a DOOM SLAYER bearing down on him. He's just going to have to deal with what he had on at the start of the fight. If he started the fight with the red tunic on then okay yeah he'd be at the very least fire resistant, not fireproof so fire would still hurt him. (Hm, i MAY be wrong about that.) and with heat resist type foods he's again need a second or two to actually eat it and gain its effects because of course time doesn't freeze when using items and stuff. would also need a second for the food to actually kick in if swallowed. The cryo/magnisis tools he has, hm, admittedly could be a major boon for link, IF he thinks to use it before DG gets his hands on him or blows his head off. but the chances of him starting with these tools instead of most likely charging in with the master sword is slim. and his overconfidence will be his downfall. Bombs would be useless, DG has survived far worse than simple gunpowder bombs. Music instruments are useless, because he needs time in order to use them, again time doesn't stop when he uses items. " Links gauntlets allow him to just start throwing everything from the terrain upward at THE DOOMSLAYER" sure...if he's allowed time to do that before he gets a face full of buckshot..sure. Oh wait the Super shotguns has a hook shot attachment...right DG would just impale link with it and pull him close and blast him in half. even if he survives Link would be in no condition to do anything besides bleed to death. link Turning into a giant would be a bad idea. the larger you are the more blind spots you have, do you know how agile DG is? he can jump and hook himself all the way up to links face blast out one of his eyes and kill link from the inside. messy stuff smh. Link can become immune to 3 attacks...3....DG has a minigun you know?. Link would survive the first three bullets and the rest of them would rip him apart. Lightning strikes...hm, that all depends, not to sure on that one. The power of the Goddesses...hm, one of them grants him a shield for some time one lets off a large fiery explosion and the last one grants him the ability to escape to the start of the dungeon witch would be where the two are fighting so thats useless. these require at least 5 second to pull off so..yeah these are all useless actually in a real time fight to the death. Link doesn't have unfettered access to the Full triforce whenever he wants so i don't know why you brought that up. he just has the courage piece on him. it all just depends on the first moves, unless Link uses those runes first and foremost (and why would he?), he's a dead man.

Now what's that shotgun going to do hmm? ;p See how this works? Context matters a lot too. Link with 3 hearts is a very different proposition to Link with 20. The Mirror shield is a magical item that has demonstrated the ability to block attacks equivalent to laser beams and that resemble energy projectiles. Inevitably we have to speculate here, since no reasonable comparison applies, but it doesn't seem out of the realms of likelihood that he mirror shield will block or even reflect plasma bolts. Hell, it might even absorb a BFG blast all things considered. See the problem here? Too many assumptions, too few things grounded in the realities of the games we're dealing with. You assume a shotgun will do something because a real shotgun will mess up a real person. but a real person could never take the kind of sustained punishment Link takes on a routine basis. He takes full force sword strikes that in reality would cut a man in two in a single hit, and to him it's like... 1 heart of damage. At best. So... Which is worse? A full force impact from a claymore, or a point blank shotgun blast? Because I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of either, yet we know Link can easily survive one of those while wearing little to no armour.... Also link doesn't bleed. It's never happened ingame even from taking about 20 hits any one of which would have caused fatal wounds AND massive bleeding. You can try to justify why in this fight that's suddenly different... But that's introducing a bias that is rather unfair given how massively unrealistic BOTH characters are in their respective games. You can't suddenly start applying implications grounded solely in realism in such a lopsided manner. The counter argument should be obvious. A single hit from just about ANY of Link's weapons would take out doom guy in one hit based on that kind of reasoning... And link has many, MANY weapons to work with...

He's canonically invincible, they had to BURY HIM WITH AN ENTIRE CATHEDRAL in order to stop him, Link's arrows are as useful flying towards Doom Slayer as they would be shoved up Link's bumhole. Dammit, when Yahtzee gets the obvious correct position - it's Booooooring. Jack is too calm and passive to properly defend the obviously wrong side. I'm pretty sure BotW has a limit on how many cooked meals you can carry, so... Your full heals will only last you so far. As for Doom Guy - Eternal's flamethrower awards you massive amounts of armour just by using it on enemies, without needing to kill them, so yes, DG would be able to just refill his armour off of Link even if Link keeps healing himself. Plus Link's healing items, other than bottled fairies, can only heal you if you're alive - and there's not much that gonna be left of link after encounter with a BFG, or chaingun, or rocket launcher, or super shotgun... Umm... If Gust Jar can do that - why wasn't it used on every single bad guy in Zelda? Why wasn't it used on Ganon? And if Ganon is too strong for that - well, i have a bad news for you...

Just a few notes here: - Any items that take more than 3 seconds to use are worthless as the Slayer is completely unrelenting when he gets going. - The Slayer also not only killed an Angel but killed the Icon of Sin, a being whose very presence warps reality and was the size of a skyscraper. - Also realistically unless its powered by magic, most of links gear aint getting through that armour. Since it has a forcefield and its future armour, arrows will just glance off

Two things, one there is one of link's weapons that was completely forgotten, the dreaded Cucco which are numberless and invulnerable. Second there is actually theoretically nothing to fight about, because some people theorize that Link and Doomguy are one in the same.

He doesn't actually die, if he did that would cause another universe entirely, it's more likely that the Hero of time from the child and adult timelines kept hopping into the downfall timeline to get their required items, causing downfall link to fail.

He wasn't killed. What supposedly happened is that the deku tree never called him and never sent Navi to him, the deku tree died without giving him the pearl and without telling him to go to the castle. This meant that he didn't learn about Ganondorf (since he learns about him from Zelda) and lived a normal life unawere of Ganondorf's aptempts at gathering the 3 stones needed to open the door of time, Ganondorf OTOH also fails to get the stones and is forced to wait for the sage's power to weaken enough that a backdoor to the triforce realm opens for just enough time that Ganondorf enters and steals the triforce (which causes the dark world that you see in ALTTP).

Link's arsenal is like 1000x larger than doom guys. He just has more games. And while they aren't high tech items, they are straight up magic. Link doesn't need to puzzle solve. Link's Loadout for this battle, given access to any item in the series, is really easy: Nayru's Love from OOT or the Magic Armor from WW/TP as an omni-directional defensive shield (plus a ton of rupees for fuel if the latter), the Sheikah Slate from BOTW with the Stasis+ rune, and the Light Arrows from WW or Ancient Arrows from BOTW which kill all non-boss enemies in one strike regardless of armor (whether the contests are considered boss enemies for each other is debateable, and even if they are these arrows will still do incredible damage in spite of Doom Guy's armor). Furthermore, bringing in abilities, Revali's Gale and the Slow Motion Focus of BOTW. Start of Fight, activate armor/shield, Stasis Rune to freeze Doom Guy when he has to reload or switch weapons, Revali's Gale into the air and go into Slow Motion Focus as you fall, and Light Arrow/Ancient Arrow his armored self into oblivion, stunning via headshots if he doesn't go down in one. Rinse and repeat up to twice more to finish out Revali's Gale. If you're opening up the whole of the Zelda franchise, you end up with some OP stuff just by combining abilities from 2 or 3 games, and BOTW has brought in a considerable amount of powerful abilities. Heck, continuing the BOTW stuff, we can use upgraded Ancient Armor for Ancient Proficiency to buff damage with Ancient Weaponry by 80% (load up arrow on the Ancient Bow), stacked with another 50% boost from a food item. Nayru's Love is a spell, so it wouldn't conflict with wearing said armor. That's probably the quickest loadout I can think of for Link in this fight, and I'm sure a devoted Doom Fan will be able to pick out some weapons an abilities Doom Guy has which will nullify or at least balance out this particular silliness XD

What an odd question. Doomguy has science, Link has magic. Magic the Gathering wins, I mean gathering magic wins. The best chance Doomguy would have is fast firing rockets but if Link has any power from any game then can't he just turn into a fairy like in Zelda II? You can't hit what you can't hit and once Doomguy is out of ammo, Link can counter with Magic Wand with Holy Bible... unlimited ammo with a burning effect. Hit him with the Boomerang and then light a fire under his ass with the Red Candle. Hit Doomguy with a Silver arrow... no, that should be for werewolves and maybe vampires. Megaton hammer? Giant Fairy Sword? No... The bug catching net, Link's ultimate weapon. Strong enough to return Ganon's blasts, it should be good enough for the BFG... I think?

The BFG doesn't have to be aimed directly at Link though, the main energy balls project secondary attacks in all directions still completely deadly to humans (in lore, game mechanic wise the BFG is working differently) . the question is if Link can dodge attacks going in all directions (that would count as unavoidable in most games). Aside from that the BFG can be shot more than once, so can the bug catcher defend agains unavoidable fatal attacks coming from the first main projectile in his back as well as the unavoidable fatal attacks from the second main projectile from his front? And if he has to do that manually with the shield, he'd have to turn his back to the attacker to defend the fatal secondary blasts of the first energy ball after it has passed him, while the BFG holder could fire a second time hitting said back of the shield bearer.

This was fun, although Link being the prophesied hero wouldn't stop the Doomslayer snapping him like a twiglet. It just means his reincarnation would come back in 100 years and return the favour, except that in turn depends on Doomslayer hanging around oppressing Hyrule the entire time. Also Status+ only works on some enemies for a couple seconds, tops, nowhere near enough time to get enough damage in. Having said that, even with finite recovery, Link can keep it up for ages if he's got 60 hearty meals and he can eat any meal in less than a split second.

Canonically the praetor suit, introduced in Doom 2016, is only damageable by the very source that powers it. Argent energy. Once extracted from the source it can heal the user. But unless link has Ganon's forces on his side, he can't hurt the marine. Even then, Ganon's forces can be killed for health and ammo. And he can't be sucked up. That jar is powered by the gods, but as mentioned here he has defeated hell priests, Icon of sin, literal gods, and many MANY damned souls. And they could damage him. Finally, (This is in theory by the dialogue in Doom Eternal) the doom marine can travel multiple dimensions so he can do things different. There's no way in hell, literally, that the doom marine can be defeated.

Honestly Yahtzee had the right idea of the most powerful weapon that would be uncounterable: the Tingle Tuner! For the low low price of a few seconds worth of grass cutting, Link can call upon Tingle from a mysterious unseeable location to bomb the ever living fuck out out of anything in his path. This is done by an entirely separate entity, so Link is still able to fully concentrate on his fight with the Doom Slayer, while the Doom Slayer has to split his attention between Link and fucking bombs coming from nowhere! “Let me line up my shot” and *blamo* face full of explosion! And these aren’t your fancy particle effect explosions either! These create a cloud of obscuring smoke on top of their damage, so Doom Guy will be unable to tell the difference between Link, that wall over there, or that pool of acid! And that’s before we talk about Link’s incredible reaction time! Able to dodge and strike back against any melee attack and many ranged ones! That plasma rifle won’t be so useful when Link shield bounces it back into the Doom Slayer’s face! And those reflections don’t actually contribute towards shield damage, so he can do this all day! And before anyone says “but Doom Slayer is a ranged combatant with some melee attacks, but Link is primarily melee with some ranged attacks,” HOOKSHOT! The gap has been closed, and Link is actually now too close to use most of those big long guns, and Doom Slayer is stunned too! Transitioning into Links throw attacks from his time in Soul Calibur, we can go back and forth chipping away at Doom Slayer’s health without any opportunity for recourse! All this before we reach out and put on the Fierce Deity’s Mask! Game, Set, Match, Checkmate! (Or Link could shrink himself down using the Minish Cap, and enter Doom Slayers armor and kill him from the inside. You’re armor can’t protect you from internal bleeding caused by microscopic adventurer!

You forgot about the potentially strong Deku Seed which can stun an enemy for a short time, at which point you could impale your opponent with any number of stabby-things. I didn't check the PodCast as I write this, so if you brought up the idea, I am sorry.

I'm a little surprised Jack didn't just have Link shield parry the plasma gun. He can do it with damn near everything else energy based in LoZ, I don't see how a shield that can withstand the Goron home volcano or the Guardian beams can't parry that too. Also I would love to see someone animate the fight they just laid out.

I feel like every argument of DOOM Slayer VS (insert random character here) is just "can the (insert random character here) outrun or kill the DOOM Slayer before he DOOM Slayer gets his hands on the (insert random character here)" if you use canon and get rid of health bars.

Link would only need 3 items; this would probably just end in a draw though. 1) Fierce Deity Mask. 2) Wind Waker’s Magic Armour. (Gamecube version) 3) Chateau Romani. The Fierce Deity Mask providing a strength boost and a sword that fires beams, the Magic armor making him immune to damage provided he has the magic to power it and finally Chateau Romani unlimited magic. I say this would be fair as yahtzee himself brings up the invulnerability sphere. In short when both characters have access to invulnerability neither can win ^^”
