I grew up with all the Tomb Raider games and I personally enjoyed the 2006 reboot Lara because she still had some of her sass from her original games but had a better personal stake in that trilogy, just my opinion. But if I had to choose between Core's Lara and 2013's Lara. OG Lara.

The most obvious argument that Yahtz could have used is that in the original you HAD Tombs, they were worth exploring and an integral part of the game. With the new series, last of the 3 excepting, the 'Tombs' are all one room wonders that are purely optional. So one has tombs, the other doesn't - given the title of the game, I know where my money would go :p

Old Lara was confident and badass just because and not because of past trauma. While I understand see someone overcome difficulty is more interesting storywise, it at this point a trope use to empower woman characters rather than just having them be powerful because they want to be. Also dual pistols over a fucking bow so yeah, way smarter too.

Original games had a diverse world with a likeable protagonist, the PS2 anniversary game and its sequel for the ps3 were the best tomb raider games, the gameplay of the remakes is quite generic. Old lara>>>>>>>New lara.

Edit: Also the backstories of both Laras are kinda similar, but in case of Old Lara this resulted in her to awaken the adventuring genus in her and tell her parents that she ain't marrying. Actually in 2013 Tomb Raider, the people who Lara loses are a white grizzled army guy, her mentor, and a white guy who's been friend-zoned by her so hard it's indented in his forehead. The three people who survive and escape with her are all minorities (Asian, Polynesian, and black with two women). So if you're not a guy or white you will fare surprisingly well with reboot Croft.
