Be careful what you wish for. The first 3 games were made by a different company, team, etc, they come from before Fatal Frame was handed over to the Dead or Alive studio. They're why the last game had themes of incst and a lot of "boobie ghosts". Fatal Frame was always meant to be creepy, to scare you slowly or suddenly. It was meant to be gruesome as you learned what happened to everyone. The ghosts always looked like how they died or some warped yokai-ish form. It's not meant to be sexy. I really don't want to see those guys "remaster" the first 3 games, clean up the ghosts, slap Sims HD nsfw skin textures on them and then put tits everywhere.

Can't really agree on the "don't know where to go" part, because, when you pay attention, you usually know where to go and more often than not, non hostile ghost even show you the way. Also, every single key you pick up will automatically open the map screen for you, showing the exact location of the door that can be unlocked... There was only 1 single time, when I didn't immediately know where to go, because I had to check a certain door first. But, yeah, I think this is a non-issue.

exactly how i feel too. Just go to menu it clearly tells you what your are suppose to do next. only you have to pay attention to cutscene to know what you have done so far and so where you need to go next.

Unfortunately, non-hostile ghosts do not always point you in the right way. Also, not all keys put a indicator on the map. Many do, but not all of them.

This game is better than 5. It has more depth in the lore and more survivor horror elements. What i meam is in 5, all chapters are mission based. You can always grind previous chapter to farm points to buy items to use for your next "mission". Locations is really everywhere. Makes little sense lore wise. Now 4 is exactly like 2. Everything happens in a mansion. Everything carries over. If you messed up and use too much film and heals you will have harder time later on. So the stake and tension is there. Just like RE4. Yes you do backtrack a lot, but they are meaningful. Each room serves a purpose both mission wise and lore wise. Each ghost has actual tied-in to the overall plot so who they are matters. And knowing about each of their fate is satisfying. I highly recommand this FF. Can't believe I had to wait this long to play this. Now about scary factor, I dont know what it is, none of the ghost really looks scary. There are some scary face on wall and and some ghost photos are creepy. But those jumpscare? Tbh I think many of the ghost girl are actually cute. 😳 So that's a little let down from FF2. 2:47. And no. If you pay attention to the cutscenes. They tells you which ghost is telling you to follow or what your character remembered so where she will go next. You had to open your map and figure out which room has the name that your character wants to go. Silent Hill 3 has way harder puzzles.

The story has always been disjointed since the 3rd game at least. That's a staple of the series and the map has always been weird. Those aren't issues to this game but Koei not evolving with the times for each game. Maybe if they made a new one, it could finally get somewhere decent to survive this modern era.

@Kat-xy7fm
@Kat-xy7fm Жыл бұрын
Disjointed story is half the point; it rewards exploration with something that horror fans enjoy, which is the nitty gritty details. You get to piece together the clues you find to understand the full context; I think it's fun and a good design choice that sets it apart from other games. That said I remember as far back as the original having different colors for doors that are locked vs unlocked (though sometimes you needed to go back and check as the chapter changed) and I think at least one release of one of the games actively showed you which key goes to which door

In any case, it has to be better than the shitty Wii original. Those times where you have to play the piano aren't fun, and at the very end you even have to do it, and if you don't make it in 3 tries the final boss REGENERATES. And playing the piano with a motion pointer sucks already

legitimate concerns here but what about that intense ATMOSPHERE. i played this a couple of years ago and loved it for the seriously creepy moments it had. i guess it's all about the setting and mood the player is in that decides that.
@persona3rulez
@persona3rulez Жыл бұрын
Well, as for me, Fatal Frame 4 atmosphere is rather poor. Like the review says, you often know where will be a battle and battles themselves aren't spooky after a few hours since ghosts are slow and really boring. I haven't played 1-3 yet but I know for sure that those games had rather unique ghosts, almost Nemesis-like sometimes, especially the first game. There were ghosts with disjointed neck, long arms, weapon in hands, blind ghosts, ghost head and e.t.c. which COULD scare you. And here for half a game you fight rather boring ghosts like nurses or patients that died in bed. Yes, there are some interesting moments but rarely. Oh, and jumpscares, any jumpscare gets old very soon but this game literally consists of them. You go through a long corridor with a window? You basically already know that half-way the game will STOP you, make you WATCH a cutscene of a ghost appearing behind you and only AFTER that you can run and fight. You just go, get jumpscared(when you can't even move) and that's it. It's almost as if this game was their first horror game and they didn't know how to scare a player except for using jumpscares. However, it wouldn't be so much of a problem if the game managed to use jumpscare during gameplay more often and make these fight less obvious. Wouldn't it be better if a jumpscare started with a ghost attacking you from behind a corner when you don't see him? Just imagine: you go down a corridor, you're about to turn and BAM, A GHOST, and you start to mash that Dodge button in a panic. That would be a good way to start a battle. Meanwhile, the game in fact shows you a cutscene of a ghost appearing behind you or something, which breaks any surprise moment. Well, yeah, you can get scared by a loud sound and instant change of view but then again, it's a cutscene during which you are safe and usually the enemy won't attack you after a cutscene for some time. Conclusion: you can guess when a battle starts, it usually starts with a cutscene, the enemy can't do anything for some time and ghosts are slow. Scary? For a few hours maybe, but then it becomes a routine.

@@persona3rulez "I haven't played 1-3 yet" ya I can tell.... You're trying to say 4 is significantly worse than those in comparison, while exclusively talking about issues that exist within the entire series. I'm not even convinced you've played 4 from this comment, since you're complaining about the "lack of nemesis-like encounters" when 4 also, as a matter of fact, has the same mechanic. I'm not saying your critiques aren't necessarily fair, but they very clearly come from a place of significant assumptions and very little understanding of the subject matter you're commenting on.

Yeah I don't think a lot of people were like, ready to pay attention or read instructions. 4 isn't great at telling you where to go all the time but it's usually pretty clear if you're actually paying attention and following the ghosts? Yet people complain about searching for hours in parts where like. The game just straight up told you where to go, you just weren't listening.
