The amount of times I wasted all my sodding ammo on one of them only to realise we were just waiting out a clock until something scripted happens and it bombards you with QTEs all of a sudden... then gives you a C rank for dying because you thought you were in a cutscene and suddenly it wants you to hit Space within half a second.

i actually really enjoyed the quick time event fighting styles largely because during a quick time event you are immune to all forms of damage except explosives so if you and your Human partner take the medic class in mercanry mode to constantly buff each other stamina and health and fight in tandem you can actually kinda be FUCKING GOD DAMN INVINCIBLE, and frankly i do enjoy fist fighting bosses everyone else uses guns on.

I adore all of the Resident Evil games, every single last one, some more than others of course. RE1, 2, and 3 all have a special place in my heart since they are what started me in the whole zombie mayhem genre, so, those are more than likely my favorites. I know I'm not counting the others but there are so many of these games, go ahead and add in RE0, the outbreak files, umbrella chronicles, etc.. But upon meeting RE4, I felt a bit dumbfounded and was confused as if I had bought the wrong game, upon finding the first handful of enemies it still seemed a bit like good old Resident Evil because it was still mainly the survival horror and it was hard to maintain your ammo unless you consistently went for headshots and melee moves with strong weaponry, otherwise? It was still Resident Evil in the old aspects, even denying you of being able to buy ammo from the merchant that they implemented. When I first started I was slow and cautious, learning that there were actually traps in a good portion of places and it left me checking corners and the ceiling both. I always dreaded being stuck walking for so long and fighting my way through everything, it left me tired for a while and the calm blue flame and gentle music filling my ears upon finding a merchant? Oh golly, it warmed my heart every time I saw the feint glow of the Merchant's torches, always enjoying a good save and a break from shooting baddies that jump out at you from every angle to just shoot targets that popped up at you instead! Even the mercenaries was a fun break so I could just let loose and make a dash to get the highest score I possibly could, I enjoyed RE4 a hefty amount and also was a big favorite to me. If you're still reading this, I'm certain you're probably tired of me talking about something not relevant to RE6, well it is relevant, it just barely is.. Just going through and explaining my thoughts is all, and upon all of my love towards RE4, a ton of it was still shared in RE5 where I had a friend of mine to hold hands with all the way to the finish line, a bit disappointed that less was done with the merchant but more fun was to be had anyway, I consider it almost equal to RE4. RE6 now, I of course dislike this one the most, taking away just the guy that sells and upgrades your guns is actually a really bad thing to do, why? Being allowed to buy your different guns allowed for a customization in a sense, as well as being able to don outfits that you earned for beating the game or getting some collectibles, it let you play like you! With RE6 taking just this away, it felt a bit bland to me and gave me almost no replay-ability. Yahtzee did indeed share about the agent hunt mode which is pretty damn good, but it could easily be so much more.. The creatures that you control are such a bitch to control in anyway that you attempt, no matter which one it is. RE6 has almost nothing going for it and I don't consider it to be too much horror, aside from Leon's campaign, why? The zombies are back, and with the dead comes the darker tone to the air, making it more scary than just having a gunfight with everything, I mean, you're a fucking bullet sponge in those, you take three shots and fall down, only to get back up and pop a tic-tac to feel better! Really?! Now, if you read all of this, I commend you and hope you feel the same as I do or have any questions, if so, feel free to ask.

Good points well thought out and explained arguments. It is nice to see people that there are people on the Internet who can actually express themselves in a logical way. Personally I can't take RE seriously enough to look at it as anything more than a fun action series with really ineffective horror elements. Granted i say almost the same about Deadspace so maybe I have been spoiled on more complex horror games such as the early Silent Hills, Fatal Frame and Rule of Rose.

Joseph Ford Absolutely, RE5 had very little horror in it if any, the only time I considered it gain even a little more of a slower darker tone was in 'Lost in Nightmares'. However, that is a DLC, meaning not everybody got to experience it and I don't exactly count that. RE6 was a little bit of the same, being Leon's campaign because that brought back the Zombies, but being so much faster than them because of missing the tank controls? Ehhh.. Not as threatening anymore, but at least it seems as though they tried, or maybe they didn't? All we can hope is they do better in the next Resident Evils, Revelations 2 didn't seem too promising to me when I watched it, gave off a bit of a co-op silent hill feel.

I must be the only person that likes this game. It was cinematic, it has awesome gameplay and graphics. The mobility was also the best: running, sliding and jumping back was pretty cool. And every character had different things that made them special, example: Jake's hand to hand and Leon's dual pistols.

Key Smith You're not alone, I love RE6 too. I've enjoyed most of the games in the series, but RE6 is one of my favorites. The controls are incredibly smooth and I just keep coming back to it. I know it's not just us. Some people I know have something like 1000 hours invested in the game because they think it and/or some of its DLC's are fun.

I decided to play RE6 for the first time last year, and it really does burn you out fast. 4 separate campaigns with 6 missions each an hour long of constant set pieces is too much for anybody.

I can't remember how many times i got fucking pissed off at this game when i was against a boss, i ran out of ammo, broke some crates and got some sweet Skill Points instead of those overrated bullets. So during the final boss fight during Chris campaign, the NPC partner did the majority of the work.

Re6 is my biggest guilty pleasure game. It is so hilariously over the top and self serious that i had a grin on my face the whole time. Sure the quick time events, constant unavoidable ambushes, and walkathons were terrible but the core gameplay was surprisingly satisfying to be honest. Is it a bad game? Hell yes. Is it one of my favorite games. Yes, yes it is.

It makes sense that you can duck and roll, kick and struggle in this game. It makes the characters seem more like the highly trained operatives they're supposed to be, which I would often call into question in the earlier games. But apparently they had to trade that sensibility for any potential subtlety. Just because they seem more competent, doesn't mean they should now star in Dawn of the Dead as directed by Michael Bay.

Boring. I don't normally say that about games I play, but it didn't engage for me. Even with a second player in tow, it was a lot of linear corridors, slow walk sequences, and set piece boss fights that insta failed me because I didn't follow its instructions to the letter without telling me. If you're wondering why there isn't a zero punctuation video about RE4 it's because it originally came out in January 2005 which is about a month before KZbin even existed. Who knows, he might do a retro-review about it some day.

The writing in AA games are up and down for me. The puzzles and how they set up the cases are good, but the dialogue itself is, eh. I love the games though, mainly because it tries to set itself in Los Angeles but is obviously written by someone who has never been or seen LA. And there was that really weird day (it was like the first or second day of the circus case) where it had a bunch of references to obscure french writers, for no reason whatsoever.

personally, I played 5 to the end, twice, but i couldnt force play RE6 for longer than two, 1 hour sessions. It is easily the worst resident evil game ever created

I've played every resident evil game, other than the original and imo RE6 is by far the worst. at least RE5 had a seamless campaign. the way RE6 breaks the campaign up and let's you choose between them at the main menu was poorly done and broke all immersion. it was like they made 5 small games and mashed them together instead of making a single good game covering the characters different storylines. capcom deserves every harsh word that can be said about this game.

Not really, considering the gameplay wasn't a complete pile of poop like in RE 5. RE 5 was the worst story wise, gameplay wise, and just all around bad. Except the fact D.C. Douglas voiced Wesker, that fixes lots of hate for the game.

played PC version of RE5, cooperatively with a friend. had a great time, beat it twice. fired up RE6 on PC and wanted to cry at the pathetic excuse for gameplay they stitched together. i bet RE5 required twice the development time at least in comparison to RE6. RE5 is widely considered to be a superior game to RE6, every review venue agrees, metacritic, ign, gamespot, gamesradar, destructoid, etc

I would actually play a Resident Evil game where the surviving protagonists found their own city on the moon. It would be part management game, where you have to make sure everyone's needs are being met, and part action game where you occasionally have to go slap down anyone who tries to start making zombie bioweapons. If they succeed in making zombies, you lose.

Incidentally, Resident Evil 3 had a different subheading in Japan, "Last Escape". Jill dramatically title drops it in the opening, but we westerners didn't know that because the subheading wasn't the same. The most likely reason they didn't change it is because all of the original audio for Resident Evil games (and Devil May Cry games, which are from the same producer) is voiced in English to begin with, so they didn't have to record a separate track for western audiences.

Actually re6 is very fun on local co op on the veteran setting. My friend and I got through jake's campaign and that shit was not easy. Certainly fun and worthwhile if you have a friend to play it with. Though we got very, very, very tired of seeing the same boss over and over and over and over and over and over..... you get the point

Coop was a necessary part of RE5. The inventory space was limited and the two players had to work together to not die. This is obviously impossible if one of the characters is not controlled by a human. In RE6 however, coop is not important at all. There is no limited inventory or shared management, and the AI controlled character has infinite health and follows the player around like a drone. There is no need for two players if the second player is not essential.

I remember playing this game and wondering: "Where the fuck is the ammo?" and I am glad someone finally pointed out in the review how little ammo you had. I could not play it on harder difficulties because if I wasn't getting head shots upon every single fucking enemy my bullet was pretty much a waste and I had to go balls to the wall and begin using that bloody useless knife which I wish could just be stabbed into the zombie's throat like a sensible person would do. I also got some confused in the storyline of the characters I began googling it and thinking I missed something in the games cause, what the fuck happened?

I wouldn't say the co-op was necessary for RE5, or at least not with that explanation. A tiny inventory each instead of one just seems needlessly limiting, and by "two players had to work together to not die" that just means that if one dies, both are screwed. That feels more tacked on than anything else. The real test to see if co-op is necessary: "If this other bloke wasn't here, is it physically possible to be able to do this?"

I think what Yahtzee should do, partly due to the fact that he probably has given it a decade of thought to and partly because it would quantify what he has been saying to a similar amount of time is to write up an brief set of notes describing what he would do if he made his own psychological, survivor horror game. Not a full blown explanation mind, just some foot notes to how to create that 'perfect atmosphere, especially how he would end such a game.
