This is presumably because the foundation needs information, in good quality and vast quantity. Without field agents, strange news reports and local incidents go unnoticed, and innocent people die. The foundation embeds agents everywhere, to keep an eye on everything and everyone, just in case. The idea of rapidly 'creating' new agents is interesting, because it shows just how valuable these agents are to the foundation, and its network. Great story, great video
@JesseMcCullough3 жыл бұрын
The Foundation needs soldiers as much as it needs agents. Both have their uses. Curiosity and the ability to think outside the box, even disobeying orders to do the opposite, sounds like the kind of thing that the Foundation would prize in an agent, as well as loyalty and selflessness. Those are also traits that humans do not instinctively or even purposefully cultivate. We lean in the other direction. The Foundation's answer to the problem with a deadline to meet? Grow different humans.
@jacobfreeman54443 жыл бұрын

To be fair, how many anomalies are kept contained just by people knowing where they are or looking for them? Perhaps it's a double blind sort of thing, wherein the there really is a Tattletale, and they're doing this to keep it contained. But if the agent fails, mostly by keeping the secret, then it fries them, because by keeping it, they can in someway aid the entity.

This one kind of makes me wonder if Tattletale is a case of the Foundation bootstrapping a real anomaly into existence. Like, the reason why the program keeps killing anyone who can't finish the sim in time or who doesn't show the needed curiosity is because they are, to a degree, someone who already doesn't have an identity. They're just a body that has been procured for training. It's not until they pass that they truly have an existence via the Foundation. So every victim is, like within the simulation, just an unidentifiable body.

Genuinely interesting setup only to be subverted with a boring twist. I don't understand how this qualifies as an SCP when in the end it could only be referring to the training program itself which isn't anomalous... unless the implication is that the death is anomalously caused which doesn't seem to be the case here at all.
@DaneGilly3 жыл бұрын
It does come off a little M. Knight-ish, doesn't it? But then again I don't recall any other article using that twist?
@elahnaurofer61633 жыл бұрын
@@DaneGilly don't get me wrong, I love when SCP's have a twist. But the twist reveals there was never anything anomalous to begin with. Basically making it so you could have literally inserted any story, even from other SCP's, for the first 90% of the article since it was just a simulation.
@Tacklepig3 жыл бұрын
@@elahnaurofer6163 tbh this is an issue I have with a lot of newer SCPs. They're more about telling the story than about making sense about SCP articles by themselves. And they're great stories, but that somewhat breaks the immersion to me. A lot of the things in newer articles aren't even per se anomalous, there's only anomaly-based stories built around them. In a lot of cases, there's not even an in-universe reason for an SCP-article to exist because there's no special containment procedures neccessary.
