Nice to see someone who cares about the appearance of their work. Personally I use my powerplasma cutter as much as I can for cutting metal. I can never get a nice straight clean edge cutting with metal shears.

When building to Bonneville spec that requires the gussets to be = to pipe thickness would adding a pipe in place of the bend be a better corce of action? My rig is 5500lbs so 2x.120 -.134 will be required.

I don't remember the brand. I just bought them online. Just about any will do.

Thanks for getting back to me. I actually found the Nexen Offroad ones to be the best value. Keep up the great work.

+Darryl John Bosch I prefer the control of the TIG when it comes to welding the tubes together. There's nothing wrong with using the MIG all together as long as your welds are consistent and true (as is with any welder).

If you do a lot of these you might want to invest in a powerplasma cutter. Cutting metal with snips is a bit time consuming.

Man you need to start working with paper. It will save you so much time. and use a wire brush with your drill where your wielding to remove the paint. Sanding with you're hand is hard and when you adding your MP tag to the cars Wield them from the back (like wild through the peace of metal your tacking it to, this will keep your logo from showing wield tacks

+Shawn Adkins I see what you're getting at with some of your feedback, but it seems only ideal in a perfect world. I'm not sure what the paper reference is for. If it is referenced as using paper for templates, they often add additional steps to achieving the same part or product. They usually take more time since measuring and marking a 2D shape on a piece of paper can be measured and marked the same on the sheet metal. Doing it on paper first would add to the amount of time it takes to make a single part. Wire brushes on the end of a drill are slower than wire brushes on the end of a grinder. I use wire wheels on the grinder routinely to remove paint and finishes, but only when space permits. In this instance, there is no way to remove the finish behind the tubes. 40 grit will break it down quickly. The MP brand tags can not always be accessed from the back. In the case of the taco gusset, there is no way for the TIG to access the space inside of a folded gusset. If would have to be tacked on the outside. If one gets an outside tack, all 3 will be made to match. The tacks are also extremely small. They are noticeable, but they measure about 1/16th of an inch wide at any given point.

+The Fabricator Use blue tap and paper then just use that as a template.

+Shawn Adkins Those are still additional steps which add to the time it takes to fabricate one piece. You can measure and transfer a template, or just measure the piece you need to cut to eliminate the extra steps from the template.
