Hello Gorgeous,
In this video, the legendary voice guru ‪@jvoxfox‬ and I react to the mesmerising Geoff Tate of Queensrÿche performing Take Hold Of The Flame. In this video, we analyse their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate the vocal techniques and we'll tell you what we think made it so great! Analysing a beautiful voice with Julia was honestly a dream come true. I am so excited to share this. She is so special and I am really looking forward to seeing her again and singing our hearts out!!

@@Rendclaw I think that's kind of reductive of the rest of the band, but I know what you mean. To me, Ed, Scott and Michael would have been one of the best metal bands of the era on their own - but Geoff and Chris (guys who weren't really that metal) added that little bit of magic that made them the Queensryche we know. Michael is every bit as important as Chris, just like ed and Scott. It took all of them to be great.

Also to note of Tate's stamina, since this track was the second to last song in the set performance. In addition, this is pure natural ability as there was no such thing as "auto tune" in '84.

Very true! Geoff seems to have an uncanny ability to stay on key. Also, speaking of stamina, he once stated that he used to hit the gym hard for 6 months before a tour. It certainly showed!! These guys worked diligently to give the best show possible! I hope they know we fans recognized and appreciated their dedication that resulted in pure magic!! It did for ME anyway!
@fistovuzi
@fistovuzi Жыл бұрын
there was auto tune in 84. the technology just wasn't able to be utilized in a live performance but it was used in the studio all the time. we called it the "big knob box" because it was a box with a big dial on it you used to dial in the note. today's auto tune tech is sophisticated enough to auto tune a voice in real time so it is used live.

@@benitokamelo252 I saw him perform Roads To Madness live in May of 91 during the Building Empires Tour, just a few dates before they filmed Operation: Livecrime in Madison & Milwaukee, WI. It was the first time I got to see them live (I missed them when I couldn't attend Ozzy's Ultimate Sin tour in 1986.) I was blown away by how tremendous Tate was live. I've seen some vocal greats perform in person on Broadway and the whole 2hrs+ of that show I couldn't get over how Tate sounded impossibly better the longer he performed. And he PERFORMED! He was mesmerizing on stage and not once did I think he he might have flubbed line or note . Roads to Madness,The Lady Wore Black, THOTF are no joke combined with Operation: Mindcrime in it's entirety plus a good portion of the Empire album. It's just mind boggling how talented Tate is as a front man and vocalist to pull it off night after night. That show is the best live performance by anyone that I've ever seen. And to think he had only about 6 lessons from Maestro David Kyle covering some technique. It's just raw talent on exhibition and most of us have been here for it since about 1983 😂 All that being said, I still think those two performances during the Unplugged session are a nearly perfect delivery.

Two of the best together in one crazy video!!! O M G! This is a dream... don't wake me up pliz. Geoff Tate is an amazing vocalist and singer and I've followed this band for a long time, almost from their start as a band. But one thing that people often forget to talk about is his range. Sure his high notes is fantastic, but Geoff, when spoken, has a very dark voice. I love his darker, softer tone in songs like "Della Brown" cause you can hear the basenotes he has in his voice much more. There is so much more to Geoffs singing than this song and I truly hope you can react to more from him? He is truly one of the greatest in this genre Be safe

What has always impressed me about Geoff Tate is that he's a baritone singing those crazy high notes....and can perform an entire show across that range. We can all sing for a short time at the edges of our range, but Geoff not only has an unusually broad range but also has the vocal endurance to crush entire albums out there at the upper edges of that range.

Couldn't wait to get home and indulge in your musical prowess. Thanks for putting a glorious smile on my face today. I've Dimash 'ed with Julia as well, so fun. SILENT LUCIDITY, SILENT LUCIDITY YES PLEASE! One of the best performances/ songs ever done, really. The official video is where it's at. Their best song hands down, obviously. When you do LUCIDITY, then the SCORPIONS Gorky Park live is an absolute must. What a joy to have you both together. Love you so mucho, sweetheart ❤. . . . Speaking of Dimash. . . . . . . . . Yes, please do. 👍🙏✌🇺🇸🇩🇰🏴‍☠️

That was a fun watch. Julia, you know that Brittney Slayes lists Jeff Tate as an influence, and our Fairy Voice Mother hasn't reacted to Tonight We Ride yet - or I wonder speaking of Tate, if she's seen Brittney's cover of Tate singing Queen of the Reich in a Karaoke bar after a concert.... could be fun. What a treat seeing you both in the same reaction!

One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to was Queensryche’s Operation Mindcrime tour- which was an album- in which they performed the album, in its entirety, with a “movie length” accompanying video in the background. It was amazing.

That was the Building Empires tour for Empire, the album after Mindcrime. What an amazing show that was. For them to do over a solid hour of high powered songs with no breaks for ballads of any type was amazing.

It's really nice to hear the younger generation impressed by Queensryche. I've been listening to them since 1987. Geoff and the whole band are amazing. My friends back then hated Queensryche because they said they were too commercial compared to AC/DC, Ozzy, Pantera ,Iron Maiden ...etc. I'm glad I stayed loyal to them through the years...You should listen to the whole ''Operation Mindcrime'' and '' Empire'' albums. :)

This band didn't have a weak link from their song writing, musical talent, and live performances. I was blessed to see the oringal band numerous times in concert and consider them one of the best live bands ever. Fairy, Geoff could literally sing/seduce you to do anything, check out Operation Mind Crime.

RoFL! Julia's face when you described his voice as "going everywhere" at the very start. We knew what you were in for. I have to be one of the biggest Geoff Tate fanboys. He's probably my favourite vocalist. I was introduced to his voice during a very interesting period. As such, it was his natural timbre, immaculate phrasing and **insert fancy form of praise here**. It wasn't insane, inhuman range or anything. (Although impressive enough by normal standards. Hell, just listen to "Someone Else") I was hooked right from then. I was shocked to the core when checking out this earlier material and hearing such an insane, expansive head voice that almost made it sound like he voice naturally rested much higher than it does. The man is a baritone! Seriously. Listen to enough of his material of the years and it becomes clear. His head voice was just so powerful! A lot of people lose interest in his voice as the years go on and he gets older and stops hitting those insane highs but I never stopped listening. Like I said, it was the general quality of his voice that attracted me in the first place. Ok, I shall cease gushing on a year old video now.
