Do you male tinctures? I'm trying my luck with those. Mushrooms and mosses have to be dual extracted to get all of the medicinal components though.

Hey, I AM the grandmom out foraging. My grandkids are fascinated by what I find in the woods. I go with my dog every day since he needs to run. I hope they gain an appreciation for nature and all the gifts God has given us…except the ticks!

I LONG to do this, but yes, the ticks. I've pulled 2 off myself, always off my cat, but my son is fighting Lymes Disease right now! He got 14 days of Doxycycline, he was unableto stand because it hurt. He manage walking, but couldnt stand. So, kind of scared to get back out there..living on Long Island. Take all precautions! At a young woman, (19) I did get Rocky Mt Spotted Fever and needed a big shot in the butt. It continued hurting...but I was SO sick. I recovered with the penicillin...tho. Take care, check yourselves...stay safe!

I am familiar with turkey tail mushrooms, but in a different way. I am an artist my father and I would look for turkey tail mushrooms in the woods whenever I would accompany him during deer season. He had a handicap license and I would drive him to the woods. I would drive him in his side by side. He was permitted to hunt from the side-by-side as I drove. The two of us kept an eye out for very large turkey tail mushrooms growing on the sides of oak trees. I would remove them and put them in the back of our vehicle. I would take them home and dry them out by our fireplace. On underside of the mushrooms, I would paint scenic pictures like wildlife native to our area of West Virginia such as whitetail deer, black bear and birds. I would also paint scenic a pastoral scenes like big red barns, cows and horses grazing in the field or something like that. And people would buy my paintings. The very first one I ever did was on a 6 inch wide 3 inch thick turkey mushroom that my mother found. I painted and Old Red Barn on it and gave it to her for mother's Day. I painted it from a picture of the old barn that used to stand on her parents farm. She said it's the best present I ever gave her. 💞 Now that I know that turkey tail mushrooms have medicinal purposes, and that they help the immune system, I'm even more connected to them. You see dear,. I have a rare condition called Idiopathic Multicentric Castelman's Disease ( iMCD) . It involves my immune system and my lymph nodes to be exact. Next time I go into the woods, I will be looking for turkey tail mushrooms. But, this time for a dual purpose. 💕🙏💫🕊️

@@Fi0434 I purchase all my dried herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs/Roots or Frontier Co-op. I measure half a cup of each root in a big pot and fill it with water, about a gallon and a half and bring to a slow boil then simmer for at least an hour sometimes two. Sieve and pour it into two half gallon mason jars then, refrigerate. I drink about 18oz of it, sometimes cold or warm it up in a pot. Enjoy.

I’ve have never heard of cooking them then drying. I just dehydrate and use my herb grind set and grind up. Also I just put my turkey tail and my lions mane in my French press with my coffee each morning. Easy way to always remember to take them.

I’ve been watching your Chanel for several months! I’ve made a few tinctures already and an essential oil. Because you gave me confidence. I just ordered Christopher’s book just now. Living in Ohio and being so close to parks and on our mini homestead there’s one mushroom that’s gigantic and white my husband has eaten them but we are not sure what they are? Hopefully his book will help us. Thank you so very much for teaching us! And God Bless! ☺️♥️

If it's round it's puffball but if it's not then maybe it's horse mushroom I believe, I've seen them foraged in meadows

Love your grandma she is precious! We recently moved my parents onto our homestead and it is a blessing. I believe we have turkey tails here but I am always a little scared to forage mushrooms for the first time, we harvest morels and enjoy them but I am always wanting to add to our wild edible experience. Is the book you showed one of the best you like for a beginner mushroom forager?

Always saw these when I was a kid and I lived in dryer areas. Now I am in a costal area with lots of trees but mostly cedar and fungus doesn't like cedar. Also, Turkey Tail doesn't seem to like pine so you are lucky that you have it growing abundantly around you. I really have to keep a watch out closely for it I guess. It's neat the way it comes in so many shades of dark brown, grays, tans, and even almost orangey colors sometimes. I wonder what makes it different colors. I'm in WA state so even if I did find some it would probably be covered in green algae and slime sadly. Oh well. Some day when I see it I will know what to do with it.

when you blend something messy like that, put a disposable paper plate on the stem of your mixer, that can sit at the top of the jar.

I have seen some of these mushrooms in the woods before but Never knew what they were called. Nor what they can be used for. I like the blue hues in the coloring. Loved visiting with your grandmother! Thank you for sharing all this
