This brings back memories...or should I say nightmares. I actually got washed off this crossing in my work car approx. 35 years ago.......just a tad scary. Worked in Arnhem Land for 10-12 years and been across this crossing many many many times.....sometimes with the water above the bonnet level....not normally a problem as long as it's not fast flowing or nighttime. The car that I unwisely decided to tow across floated and that was also the end of my car as it got pulled in backwards, both cars went totally underwater with just the roof rack of my vehicle above the waterline as it landed on top of his car. Just very lucky the crocs were not hungry that day ... Eric the territorial male croc at the time ended up in the Darwin Croc farm and I have visited him a few times to thank him for not being hungry on that day...not sure if he is still alive today. Just goes to show that it only takes the one mistake, and it can escalate very quickly. PS - there were nowhere near as many crocs back then, so if it happened today, it might have been a totally different story PPS - but the scariest time was when I crossed at approx. 10pm and once my headlights and bulbar spotlights went underwater it was pitch black while I crossed....I never made that mistake again.

@@jeewssam8418 There where 3 people including myself in my car and 1 person in the car I towed across (or more correctly did not tow accross....lol) 1. Basically, I got us all to stand very close together on the roof rack of my car to make us appear as a much bigger target as a croc is less likely to attack a big target in case it gets injured .... they really are smart creatures. 2. The East Alligator Rangers station sent down 2 x rangers who rescued us by launching their tinny and ferrying us across the river to the Kakadu side....word spreads fast even without mobile phones. 3. It was not at nighttime as that was another crossing I did as a solo that time (99% of the time I worked solo in Arnhem Land) 4. It was approx. 4:30pm when we got washed off and approx. 6:30pm when we were finally on solid ground.....raining heavily all the time 5. Eric was a well know croc and no I have never had a beer with him...I am very glad that I never had lunch with him either 6. It has to be highlighted that 35 years ago the croc numbers were nowhere near as high as they are today - croc hunting had just finished, and most were still very aware of human activity and therefore not as brazen as today.
