Simple- The Lexus LS400 / Toyota Celsior is arguably the most indestructible car ever made, built like a bank vault with some over 1 million miles on the original V8 1UZFE engine/transmission. These cars have stood the test of time and to destroy one is a formidable task hence why it was chosen for SF2

Them Toyota 1UZ-FE engines are strong as fuck, variations of the 1UZ-FE were manufactured for over 20 years. The reason they are so durable is it’s over square bore/stroke ratio allows it to reach high RPM and it has 6-bolt main bearings, it’s basically a racing engine. 20+ years ago I helped my friend put one of these Toyota V8’s in his HiLux, it doesn’t surprise me one bit that people have got a million miles on a stock 1UZ-FE, the con-rods and crank shaft are forged steel and the pistons are hypereutectic. Toyota made some great engines during the 1990’s like this V8, the 2JZ and the 1JZ they were great engines with a turbo or naturally aspirated they were bullet proof.

Back in the 80s and 90s Japanese cars were kicking the American auto industry's ass. This lead to a trend called "Japan bashing," where U.S auto workers would smash up Japanese cars with sledgehammers as a public display of their anger over losing their jobs. I remember this being a recurring news story just shortly before SF2II came out. Though I can't prove it for sure, I always assumed that the Japanese were aware of this and that they were kind of having fun with it by putting it in the game. This theory always seemed to make sense to me given the fact that the car's license plate was "JAPAN," at least in the english language version of the game anyway. It seemed it was really important to the game makers that the players understood that it was specifically a Japanese car that they were smashing. As the narrator of this youtube video points out, you smash up the car in what appears to be Ken's stage, which is, of course, meant to be in the United States; arguably, this further supports my theory this bonus stage is meant to reference the American Japan bashing trend of the early 90s. Within just a few short years of SFII's release, Japan bashing had faded from the public consciousness and people no longer understood the real life reason behind the bonus stage. What do you think, does this sound like a reasonable theory?

“Test your might!” The bonus stages helped me with the rhythm of the attacks. How soon you could input a new command after the last was finished. Didn’t really get the barrel stage unless I played in the arcade or the Street Fighter collection released way later. Easiest with the car was Ryu or Ken. Low punch Dragon Punches hit twice while the other attacks take longer to recover or only hit once.
@ddespairАй бұрын
Well the real reason we have that stage is because sf2 was originally going to be final fight. I assume the car stage was a holdover idea, as it appears in both games, and is basically identical to one another, and both series take place in the same universe.

I used to play this game so much growing up in Asia, that I would have reoccurring fever dreams of me being on one side of this stage and Bison on the other side of the car. He would then flip the car over and pinning me underneath the car. This dream would reoccur decades later after I have stopped playing and moved to the U.S.A. Last time I had the dream was in 2017, and the last time I played that game was probably mid 90’s.

In that 90s 3D Street Fighter game, I think it's called Street Fighter EX? Well in that they take the car destruction bonus stage and take it to the extreme. Instead of a car, you have to beat up and destroy and frigging SATELLITE in space! Apparently it's a lot of fun, that game, but it doesn't play anything like normal Street Fighter. It's a real shame it's not included in any Street Fighter game collections. Because game preservation is incredibly important.

its because it was programed by Arika, probably because they were more experienced in 3D games than Capcom at that time and Capcom needed something to fight tekken, virtual fighter, Soul edge/calibur, etc. Legal agreement is that Arika can use SF name and characters just for that saga for a fixed period. So Arika cant remake that game because they dont own SF characters or name. Capcom cant release that because all game, code mechanics and EX original characters belong to Arika.

I was there at the arcade in CA where combos were 'discovered' a literal week before the first international Tournament, EVER. They were terrified because we had also discovered 'RE-DIZZYS' You could basically stun-lock your opponenet, EVERY time. impromptu rules had to be made after the first round of the tournament when they noticed we were all using REDIZZYS. It would become grounds for disqualification form round 2 on.

The show version of Final fight was called Street Fighter 89. Capcom America wanted Capcom Japan to make Street fighter part 2 so they made Final fight but it was not something Capcom America expected so they made it Street fighter II instead. So besically, Final fight was meant to be a part of Steeet fighter series, which is probably why it has the car bonus stage.

It just comes off as a way to explain away the most likely and plausible reason which is that this is simple product placement. It's also likely that Toyota Executives knew that this was going to be a car sold in America soon (1997 is when Lexus came to America) and it could have been just a way to get people to see it for the first time.
@waziammmАй бұрын
Everyone has been playing it wrong all this time, the car was never meant to be destroyed! This was included in the game to give the player an opportunity to admire a nice car, that it will break when you hit it is only to add realism as cars break when you hit them in real life. But you wouldn't instinctively hit a nice car, you would actually admire it for a few seconds. This is the intended gameplay!

Lexus was specifically made to sell Luxury models of Toyota in the US. US people were very prejudiced against cars made in Japan(as many still are today) because, among other things Racism, they beat Japan in WWII. So How can they make good stuff? They are good for Cheap stuff. They are lower level people... Toyota actually sometimes had better Trim options on Corresponding Japanese models of Toyota than Lexus ever got. But quite a few Japanese were offended and felt betrayed for having to Cater to the West in such ways to be given a chance to show they can make great quality Luxury cars...
