Are you tired of supporting her family and all their expenses? Does it seem like the demands for money never end, and you wonder what you got yourself into? Welcome to a nasty fact of Filipino culture: unless you chose a Filipina from a self-sufficient family, chances are you'll be asked to pay ... and pay. If you are tired of supporting her family, you're not alone!

@@lovemyFilipina lol, she makes her own money and gives much of it to her family. I'm a generous guy but she doesn't need it so if I give, it just goes to her family. She's open about it, and I don't care. She doesn't ask for money so when I give it, it's a gift and I know where most of it goes. Her and I are a team, but we make our own money.

That is correct, the more given the more the needs are. I have Filipina friend that is overseas foreign worker for more money. She in the last 18 months has sent almost all of her salary to her family, nothing saved, nothing to me for savings. I try to explain to her maybe they lie when they need money? She is not there to see the truth, there are 7 people living in her Mamas house not working. Just like Pea says, easier to play on the phone and scam others for money. She has purchased supposedly, Televison, small refrigerator, and washing machine, what have I received? Take a good guess, yes nothihng! I doubt if you visit any of those items are there. Just like the baby pigs she bought for her Mama to raise and sell, Were there any pigs, supposedly they die from disease? Did the rice she bought for her family not last 1 month because they sold the rice for a profit, that they did not pay for?

That is the realest thing you have ever said ...100% true. My ex filipina did that and her siblings. All she did was send every peso home and constantly buy school supplies on sale after school started and shopping for clothes and many many things to send home to her family in balibayan boxes! Her father and siblings ruined our marriage. She had family from other islands she never met track her down on Facebook and beg for money. Always a problem or an emergency. Every week. If she didn't help then she was belittled and shunned. I will never marry a filipina again. They believe....my bank account and savings should be shared with them and they would shed a tear if I died and if you help them start a business like a piggery they will sell the pigs and say they died and argue over who did the most work and deserves the most profit. It's a losing battle....thanks for sharing Sweet Pea!

Ms. Pea, My family and I just returned from the Philippines last month. It was truly expensive with all of the extra people and people who just showed up at the vacation resorts with no notice. One family showed up and asked to be taken to Sky Ranch. You are also expected to feed all of the extra people also. The bonding with cousins and grandparents for my children was invaluable. The best advice that I received was from my wife's sister. She told me, " Brother in law you don't have to give them everything that they ask for. " It is truly liberating to just say, " No."

Been there, although in the USA and Ecuador. It starts with small "asks." Then it grows. Then the family has a need, but you're only asked to contribute with others. Then, the family's needs grow. Here's the truth: her priorities are her children, next is her family, and you are a means to give her honor in her family by milking you for all they can. Best to stay single, guys.

Yep, I forced my ex-wife from Pampanga to get a job and she was sending 700 a month to her parents. I refused to hand over any money to them. I wasn’t really feeling it for her. I didn’t ask for any contribution for the mortgage. When divorcing she tried demanding half of the equity of the house. Involved the divorce lawyer from Law Offices of Matthew Hertz and if she forced a sale, she would have to pay half of the cost of selling the house due to the newness of the mortgage. Once the Law Office let her know that, she signed away everything. Housing is extremely unaffordable in the US and there is a housing supply shortage and a crisis of illegal migrants from Mexico.

It's much the same in Thailand, Pea. You get married to a Thai woman or even get seriously involved with one, you are also establishing financial ties with her family. And the pressure on her to provide for the family can cause a lot of relationship problems. It seems to be especially true for women from Isan region (northeastern Thailand). Isan is hands down the poorest part of Thailand, and the pressure these gals from family back home to send money is enormous and unending. Some of these gals become absolutely ruthless as a result.

This video is truly one of the most remarkable and profound insights into not only the psychy of the individual Philipina, but also the reasoning for the struggles of an entire country. The way you compare and contrast the Philippines vs western way of rearing children is intriguing. I never realized before that this could be a big reason (though perhaps not the only reason) that the Philippines is stuck in an endless cycle of poverty. This is a very important topic for those of us who are in a relationship with a Filipina. I’ve been married to the same girl from QC for almost 30 years and have had to deal with this a few times. I still get a little upset when it starts looking like our kindness is expected rather than appreciated. Over the years my spouse has come to see it in the same way as I do. However, certain circumstances can swing her back to the traditional viewpoint. So, the only advice I can offer is to let go of the resentment, and just manage it to the best of your abilities. It is just part of the deal when marrying a Filipina.

Yes you’re right on target. My Filipina wife and I have paid for one neice to go through College, the usual money back to family and latest is we have sponsored a Nephew to come here to study at an Australian University. This equates to hundreds of thousands of dollars. What annoys me is how the family expect we do this and show absolutely no appreciation for our generosity. We are both professionals so we can afford it but I have had enough of the ungrateful family.

I have no choice but to agree with everything you said in this video. But for the record it does happen here in the US as well. Just not as much. Now I don't mind helping a girl I am with or her family now and then. I would not make it a habit of doing it every week month or every other month. if I am dating a girl and she is upset I am not helping her family I have no problems telling her to go look for a guy more willing. I would also wish her luck as well as the guy she finds. I help others because I want to not because I have to. I have helped a lot of people most of the time they never even asked me. I have helped others more than one time but that again was my choice. If I am dating a girl and she feels my money was meant to help her family, then she was not with me for love she was with me for an open bank account. To use a person that has money just to help your family get by in life is not love.

Fortunately, I lived in a community where I had neighbors, on both sides of me and directly across the street, who were married to Filipinas. They all got burned as I watched over a 13-year period. I never partook of that and was spared a lot of pain. They all had champagne and caviar taste with their husband's beer and peanuts money. Where as they all came from bread and water communities, it was amazing.

Wow!!! I set the standard from the start. I told my Filipina before we ever got married that I was marrying her and NOT THE WHOLE FAMILY and if she couldn’t handle this then we need to go our separate ways. I told her I didn’t work 47 years to give my pension and social security checks to her family. We have been together 3 years now and have not given any money to her family. Both her parents work and make their own money. Now I have had neighbors come to my house carrying electric bills, water bills expecting me to pay them, what’s funny is I and my wife don’t even know these people and have only seen them a few times from a distance. My Filipina tells EVERYONE that I handle the money, which is true! She tells them that she never has money lol 😂

I think the best way to manage these financial pressures is to give your spouse a fixed amount of money each month to spend on whatever she wants. If her family wants money, it has to come out of that. Then she decides. If she wants more, you can just play your broken record about that being all you can afford to give her. As soon as she is the decider, it takes the pressure off you.

One of the things that I am so proud about my parents and Filipino family is that they never asked for money. 👏🏼 My youngest sister married a foreign man and his family offered a gift (money, house, business) before the wedding. Our parents declined the offer and their only request was to just take care of my sister since she is going to live in another country. They were actually surprised hearing this since they have an idea about the PH culture of supporting the parents and relatives. This is how we gained their respect and trust. Now, they gifted my parents with a house and lot. They also treat our whole family with out of the country travel.

In the west we have devised an intricate system of utang that takes everything children have to finance a comfortable lifestyle their parents want. It's called the global finance system and sells the future every day so traders can enjoy their beer on the couch, in their split level ranch house, on their yacht, or on a flight to the Philippines.

I have studied this topic extensively. Life is not always a gift. Sometimes children die early, from not being taken care of, or abused. They never asked to be born, life is forced upon us all. It is thus the duty of parents to provide a good upbringing, and well led into a direction that will see them succeed in life. Those that do not deserve abandonment, and possibly worse. But, for those parents that DO make life into a gift that can be enjoyed, where the child has been brought up right and every chance to succeed, some return on investment is warranted. One day we will all get too old to work, and part of building a nest egg to handle your later years, is making sure younger people have an environment to provide for both. An environment to succeed can only be provided by the parents and adults while the child is growing. The environment includes governmental, economic and social. The failures of the older generation to provide a good environment for the younger generations will reflect on the older generations later in life, as leaving the younger generations without the tools to provide for both of them will see them without the tools to provide for either of them.

It’s really up to you. I helped my parents when I can but not all the time. Besides they have their own livelihood. Helping them is not productive since they cannot think of themselves. They need to learn how to earn their own. Now if the parents have nothing then out of your heart help them.

This is what I have on my ads... "Easy going, 54, but no LDR money, nor sole family ATM, as own parents to support. Free English/STEM tutoring !" As I went to No1 ranked university in my career field, I am not rich, but I spent a lifetime of work (still am) to earn a living towards my pension; which is drip-fed back to me. I do not want to watch soap operas. I have plenty of time available to tutor.

This is not unheard of in the west. Before mass urbanisation most of us lived on farms. Families had large numbers of children (5 +) as they became cheap labor for the farm. Once people moved into towns and cities, family sizes reduced to 1 or 2 kids, possibly even 3. Anymore than that and they became a huge expense.

Your honesty and directness on this subject is very respectable. A lot of times people glorify the traditional culture of Philippines or other cultures, and are unwilling to discuss the negative aspects of it, which all cultures have both positive and negative. I will say that American relationships also have a very big expectation for the man to make a lot of money, but mainly so they can feed the materialism of their American girlfriend/wife. Although it is also a problem that Philippine families might expect a husband to be a provider for his wife and her parents, the man would be in a similar situation with an American woman who expects money out of pure greed for herself, because of the western woman's obsession with luxury. If a man in America is poor, he's viewed as far less attractive, and a man's money is a constant source of arguments and insults from American women in relationships. Whether dating a western woman, or an Asian woman, both situations usually have the expectation for the man to be spending tons of his hard-earned money on other people. This is a big reason why it can seem hopeless for men who are not lucky enough to get ahead of the terrible economy, because they feel they do not deserve love because all of these women, both foreign and domestic, expect us to be an ATM. At least the Filipino people have a somewhat more understandable reasoning for this, because they have a culture of providing for their family, which isn't good, but it's definitely not as evil as the American woman's expectation to just be given money for herself, and an American woman just expects this money because she wants it and she thinks she deserves men's money for nothing (just look at how divorces work here). I would still argue that the Filipino way is better than American women who just want your money because.... they like money, and spending it on frivolous nonsense. With an American woman, if the man struggles to make much money, then he's just going to be insulted, shamed, and eventually cheated on because of the self-centered, greedy nature of American women. With a Philippine woman, you may find yourself in the same situation, due to pressure from her family to find a way to provide for them. It's very sad because I would have liked to have a wife and a family, but either way, whether you stay in America or venture to other countries, the man seems to almost always get the bad end of the deal, and there's not enough reciprocation. This is why men across the world, both in the West and in Asia, are turning away from marriage and isolating themselves, or just having casual hook-ups without committing to a relationship where they have nothing to gain and everything to lose.
@grandadan

Too much information. First no woman of the West needs a man's money because they all work. If yours is not working, then you are not good at finding them. In that case it's you having a big problem. The difference is that lazy ones at the Philippines like to live scaming their kids or daughter husband. Much different.
