WHY I UPGRADED MY LIGHT SHORE JIGGING ROD | LSJ Combo
LSJ or light shore jigging is a very popular type of fishing developed in Japan and spread across the world - the versatility of the system to adapt and produce in highly pressured areas make it worthwhile investment. As this is the fishing type I do the most, I try to get the best I can for my money - the reel I invested in is the Shimano Vanquish, which I had since 2017 and I have been using it on and off with the old rod, the balance was a bit off and I new I was going to upgrade eventually, so I opted to just wait for the time and use my other reel on the old rod instead. I waited for the technology to catch up and late last year, I acquired a rod that had the weight and action of much more expensive rods - I have what I was looking for...finally....for now.

I fish in Australia and got 962M/LSJ and 1002H, they are extremely sensitive, casting distance is very impressive. Caught few bonito/kingfish/kahawai, the rod helps me land them much more easier. Really like those rods and wish you also enjoy your new gears🎉🎉🎉

That is so funny.... I had and LOVED the Skyroads for quite a while and was sad they were discontinued.... but now upgraded to Crossride 5G as well and what an upgrade! Caught a bunch of fish already and have basically nearly every model of the Crossride lineup from LSJ up to HH... they all rock! Best bang for the buck and super fun to fish !!! Even if you know the expensive stuff, these rods hold their ground! Love your channel, keep up the good work!

The set up that I cast the furthest is my Major Craft Crosride xr5-1002m/lsj with a Twin Power fd 3k with pe1 and a 40g jig. It is crazy far but like you mentioned, it is still sensitive. I can feel when the jig hits the bottom even when casting over 125 yards. I used to use a lot of jdm high end rods in the past but the quality and price point of Major Craft is unbelievable. You can spend a lot more on other jdm rods, but the quality is going to be only fractionally better so imo, it’s not worth it. I had the same tpxd reel and switched to the tpfd models because it’s lighter and it’s actually built stiffer (even though the ‘xd’ supposed to mean ‘extra durable’). I feel that the 3k size reel is made for this rod as there is very little line slap and the line coming off the spool shoots right thru the guide train.

I wanted this model, but I still wanted to cast 10g jigs...which is very important here...also, this is almost 30g heavier...BUT...if you are mostly casting 30/40g jigs...it's kind of a no brainer solid combo!

I need to replace it now, and would love to buy the Crossride but it is out of my budget. Is there any other rod you can recommend in the same weight class, as I do most of the same shore jigging you do here in Australia. Cheers, appreciate the help.

@@dayrianmagerman3858 Dayrian, I am sad to hear that you broke your N-One...that line of rods is now discontinued and the knowledge they gained in that line of rods is carried over to the 5G series...so to get the same feel, you are looking at anything in the 5G line...it doesn't have to be crossride - try the flatrek series as I am also looking at the same one...I am not totally convinced with what I have now until I get to try a direct replacement of my rod before.

If I just wanted a direct upgrade from what I had, I would chose this - FR5-1002M (Flatrek 5g) but I wanted a more versatile rod that could do more....I used 10g with this, works with the jigpara micro 10g no problem. But for slow jigs of that weight range, you have to be careful...10-15g slow jigs specifically...20g and up no problem.

I've been looking majorcraft for a little bit, but the rod has been out of stock for months. I'm not sure if there are issues with the model. So I got a daiwa seabass from Australia. It's a pretty nice upgrade from the American version west coast inshore rod. Guides are nicer. Still looking at a 88 chains in the near future.
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 3 ай бұрын
American rods are built for America and their ideal actions, outside of America...it's a different story. 88 chains is nice, but it's not a jig specific rod, it's a lure casting rod that can be used to sling small jigs...It would be great to see them (yamaga) make shore jigging specific rods down the line...but I don't think that will happen anytime soon.
@seanhartnett9753
@seanhartnett9753 3 ай бұрын
@TheFishingKit while American rods are majority bass and ugly stiks, We are lucky to have companies like United Composites and Batson. The Pacific Northwest actions are different than in southern California and the south (Florida and the gulf) vs. East Coast. Light shore jigging is in it infancy here. majorcraft is one of the only brands that I know of that is specific to the technique that is selling rods for it. I know submission jigs(southern California)are making some jigs and pushing the technique. I know if a company can make jigs that fire perch up and advertise them correctly, they could have a decent market on the West Coast.
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 3 ай бұрын
@@seanhartnett9753 Sean, in a real world scenario, it takes years for companies even the likes of UC and Batson to catch up - specifically because they don't have a clue of what the rods are supposed to do, you can copy how the blank bends and have no idea of why its built that way (this is what the local companies there do - buy japanese rods then..they send to china and have them copied..with no clue on exactly why things are done the way they are...)I know the difference between styles of rods from east to west - no one knows what they are doing as far as the japanese techniques and fishing type is concerned...it will take time before they will catch up. Local companies there can try but they can not compare and the japs are not sitting idly either....as for the jigs...I have yet to see a company there release a jig that is not copied from an asian or japanese jig...now, if they are like that, how do you think they will learn and catch up?

Hey mate! As you know, this rod isn't really for shore jigging, it can do it, but it isn't specifically designed for it...while this rod I am showing is designed for light shore jigging and can do other things...your rod is designed for lure casting that can do...other things - there is a difference. If you are slinging lures more than jigs, this is ok..otherwise, the shorter butt isn't ideal for working jigs. I also find Zenaq rods fragile for most people, if you know and understand how to use them, they are actually quite good...killer combo with the Stella.

Actually...no you are not. But yes, a combo like that will enable you to fish for a long time for sure. As a reference, about the numbers - The rod you have is 160g, vs the rod in this video that is 123g...your reel is 160g as listed. total is 320g. My rod is 123g and the reel is 185g as listed on the box...my total weight is 308 vs 320g on yours. 12g difference - the airity body is made of zenon..aka plastic. Vanquish body is made of aluminum and magnesium. so in short, I have a much lower weight overall and my reel won't flex when I happen to hook something big....but the cost of the vanquish is double the cost of the airity...that's the heavier bit. hahahahahahahha
