I ordered before knowing of your affiliate. The cord is 5 feet. No option for longer one from Midea? My nearest receptacle is 2 feet further. If i owned, i’d move that receptacle closer. User manual says don’t use extension cord. - There’s argument that says a 3 ft, 14/3 would be safe especially if not running unit all day and night. Midea is 8.78amp 115 volts. So maybe 14/3 okay.? - Theoretically any thoughts on that or maybe negotiate to have owner move socket ($$$ my pocketbook)? I’m set on a solution other than going back to older shove in designs.

I have a 1700 square foot house in Texas that has a 26 year old HVAC system. We moved in 3 years ago and it limped through the first two summers if we didnt set the temp down too low, like 74. This summer, in 2024, it completely went out. Won't work at all. In summer in Texas.... Long story short, a ton has to be done to replace it, resulting in 3 different estimates all between $25k - $30k. We cant get approved for that big of an hvac loan, we would need to put $15k down and we don't have a warranty. So, we spent $1300 and got 3 of these, one as a 8,000 btu model, and two at 12,000. We put one in our living room hidden behind a decorative table, one in the master bedroom, and one in the kitchen. With all 3 of them running at full blast, we can keep our entire house at 70 or less even when it is 95+ outside for a week straight. They are also super quiet, no one has even noticed that we have them yet because we placed them strategically where you cant see them from the front of the house, and you have to look for them behind decor inside the house. We love them, heres to a summer in Texas with window units haha.

@@kriduro1956 We have not noticed a change! We only run the one in our bedroom at night and turn the other two off. Our house is about 1,700 square feet. These Midea U Shape units are much more efficient and one of the only window units with an energy star rating.

After reading a lot of positive reviews online, my wife and I decided to get a 10k unit for the bedroom. We've only had it a couple of weeks so far, but we absolutely love it! The biggest benefit, aside from the energy savings, is the fact that the compressor doesn't kick off and on. It just quietly ramps up and down as needed to maintain the temperature. We love it so much we just ordered a 12K to replace an old inefficient one in our living room.

i love my midea and yes i did actually install it in a sliding window. All I did was go buy a used vertical opening window at a rehab place and set it into the frame of the sliding window and lock the sliding window against it. then just installed the Midea as per instructions. It works perfectly.

I just installed it for my in laws in our converted garage. It was very easy, thanks to your previous video. I ordered the 12,000 btu from Costco and it went on sale for $80 less a couple days later. They refunded me the difference. So, it was $339 before tax. It blows ice cold. Hopefully, it will last awhile.

@@Phuong_Nguyen_ I don't recommend the mini split. The Mr. Cool mini split we installed for them less than a year ago started spitting out ice and stopped cooling. The company sent a replacement inner unit but it did the same thing. The Midea is blowing cold throughout their room with less effort. With the Texas summer heat starting, we'll see how well it holds up.

I totally agree with you. I bought 1 and ended up buying 2 more. Now I can turn off my central and safe money on my electric bill. I use to turn on the whole house AC just to cool the bedroom which makes NO sense. I’m very happy with my (3) 8,000 btu units. I live in Florida so now I can cool my house with my small portable inverter generator after any prolonged power outage due to storms or hurricanes.

I just mounted one in a horizontal window. It just takes a bit of creativity and some woodworking skills. I absolutely love it! I will never buy another AC that doesn't have an inverter. It's so quiet and energy efficient! It's not just the operating noise, but inverter units also don't kick off and on. The compressor ramps up and down which is why they are so efficient.

I have the same model, now just over one year. Hands down, the best window AC ever! Love the engineering and construction. I'm a light sleeper and have this in the bedroom. I got this AC about 4 years. I live on the 8th floor and installing it was very easy ( I did it myself). Window guards are mandatory and I was able to fit one in without it getting in the way. I highly recommend this Air Conditioner.

@@r.styles1272 -Yes I do. We have some cold winters her in NYC bu thankfully we get great heat. It helps that I can still open the window when my apartment gets too hot. If I needed to take it out for some reason, it's very easy. The times I did have to remove it, I did it by myself.

I have this unit installed in my shop building which is solar powered. I love how little electricity that this unit uses. It uses less than my 5000 BTU unit which was one of the most efficient that I could find. This keep my shop below 80 where I have it set even when there is multiple days over 100 here in Oklahoma.

I have the 8k and 12k version of these units. They have been absolutely outstanding for us. The 12k easily cools the entire first floor of our house. The 8k is in our bedroom and again, easily cools it. When the room is down around its set point the unit is super quiet, you can barely tell its running. Well worth the money!

After watching your video last summer, I bought two, one for the living room and one for the bedroom. I cannot be happier! Like I said last year, this is by far the BEST ac I've ever owned for the past 50 years. So easy to install and remove. Like you, I also removed mine during the fall winter months as per manufactures recommendations. It is so quiet that I wonder if the comments made about it being too noisy aren't actually coming from a "vibration" noise and not the actual ac. I was impressed by the mounting bracket when I watched the original video. It seemed so simple, easy & safe. I've never had to install a window A/C of any kind so I'm not sure how good the competitions brackets are....but, quite a few moons ago, when my hair was a bit fuller and my mid-section not so full, my gf was renting a high rise and kept complaining that the super wouldn't come and fix her air con.....so I thought I'd take a look myself.......thank god I managed to catch it after I opened the window as it turned out it was only the window holding it in place!!!!!

Im also looking into this. First criteria is the square footage. After that it will depend on the condition of your insulation. Then height of ceilings. Then how many people are occupying the house (generating heat). Lastly how well sealed your house is.

@@memememer9467 Yes, if your house isn't too big. Just make sure they're not on the same electrical circuit otherwise you'd blow the breaker if you run both at the same time. I run a 24k btu mini split in my 1700 sq.ft. house and it basically replaced my central AC. Also, it lowered my electric bill.

I purchased an 8,000 BTU unit last week and I am impressed with the efficiency. It replaced a regular 12,000 BTU window unit and the room is actually colder. I think it is because the window is now mostly closed and the foam they provide is excellent. It is also very very quiet. I am very happy. I hope it lasts many years. By the way, the registration process is very easy.

This was on sale at costco for under 300. Best AC I've ever had. The install is not easy, and a quick search online will prove that. Still worth it in my opinion, but be ready for a frustrating time getting it in.

Yes, the 12,000 BTU version is on sale at Costco for $280. 5/15 to 6/9 2024. That is a huge discount compared to the Amazon or Home Depot prices that I've seen for this unit. In my research Midea is an OEM that supplies many brands with some big names on the list like Carrier, Electrolux, Kenmore, and Samsung. Comparison shopping gets very complicated.

Thanks for the installation video and the follow up. I've always used portable air conditioners figuring that window air conditioners were too heavy for me and my wife to manage. That changed with the Midea. We were able to lift the 12,000 BTU Midea onto a small table in front of the window and then had no problem sliding it onto the bracket. The big advantage of using the Midea over a single hose portable air conditioner is that whereas a portable air conditioner uses house air to cool the condenser the Midea uses outside air. Thus there is no net outflow of air from the house. This is important to us since we have forest fires in BC and we need to avoid sucking smoke into the house. Thankfully we can run the Midea on even the smokiest days.

I messed with the filter for at least 30 minutes without success of reinstalling. Thank goodness for your demonstration! It goes BEHIND the rod on that goes from left to right on the lower part of the unit so that it is tight against the fins! Thank you so much.

Just installed mine in my 2nd floor master bedroom. I replaced an old noisy GE window unit, and the difference is night and day. Like you said, it just works, and it is whisper quiet. I live alone so it's nice to save money by setting the rest of the house to 74 and just cool my bedroom to 68. I love the network connectivity and setting a schedule. Mine is set to come on at 9:00 PM and then have it shut off in at 4 in the morning. Great unit!

When my family moved to Oregon in 1979 the house we bought had what looked like a rather large window unit that someone had installed in the living room wall. The mount on the outside of the house was sort of rusty, and we had a nest of yellowjackets one spring, but it would keep the entire house cooled down in that 100 degree heat. The slogan in the town was "90 days over 90 degrees," and they weren't kidding; it hit 117 two days running in August one year.

All the A/Cs my family has are window units, but none of them are in a window, partly because our windows don't work with them (house built in 1964, and all the windows that can be opened open and close like a door with a crank and lever arm - I wouldn't be surprised if the windows are original equipment to the house) - all 4 of them are in the wall. To be honest, I was rather surprised the first time I ever saw one in a window (I was 16 and until then had never seen one in a window), and wondered why on earth someone had put a wall A/C there, because the only ones we've ever owned, at least as long as I've been alive, have always gone in the wall.

@@SnowySpiritRuby I think it was a lot more common to do it that way during the 60s and 70s. Central AC was still pretty much a thing that only showed up in commercial buildings. Also, those wall-installed units were significantly bigger than most window units; it would have taken two people to horse that thing into position once the support was installed, and it cooled down an entire 3-bedroom house with no problem.

@@nolongeramused8135 Wouldn't be surprised if that's the reason, though 2 of the 4 rooms that ours are in didn't have them when we moved in - my dad cut the holes through the walls in order to install the other 2 in the mid-2000s and early-2010s, though more likely that was because none of the windows in the house are double hung. The one in our living room must just be a very giant window unit then (the other 3 are much smaller), because it's only slightly smaller than the one that was there when we moved in in '98, and that first one I think was original equipment (a lot of the appliances and fixtures that were in the house when we moved in were original equipment, so we've had to replace a lot of things).

also installed in a sliding window... more work but definitely doable and works great... 19.5 inch window gap will accomadate the unit... most sliders have much more space than that to allow it to fit.

I just bought the 10K BTU version and love it. One issue I had was installing it on my 1048 brick house. Commonly brick houses from this era have thick walls and a large brick sill on the outside. I had issues with getting the bracket to fit over the sill and still be able to level the unit. I added a 3/4 wood plate to under the outside of the sill to solve this. I also added a 1/2" spacer under the bracket on the inside to compensate for the height of my lip. Otherwise, a great product.

I just installed one for my aunt and her very old house with old wooden frames and single pane windows and it was still fairly easy I watched the installation video I paused at each step some of the steps I watched more than once unless it was a little bit noisy but maybe it was just extra noticeable because she hasn't had an AC working in her window for a few months. she's very happy with her new air conditioner .

Hi, asking for my mom who just had one installed…she has older windows too. Aluminum in the outside and finished wood on the inside. She is concerned that water will get in between the bottom of the window and the u-shaped channel on the unit and stay there, rotting the wood. Any follow up info to offer from your experience? I highly recommend this type of AC unit, especially if you live in an area with hot summers. I got one for my mom, in June 2021 and she has had such a positive experience with hers and that the installation process was easy as well. The stability of these units in the window frame is definitely a plus compared to the older style. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I was very impressed by the design that allows the window to go almost close all the way. I purchased two 12000-BTU, one for me and one for my son. Both units worked fine for two years, and after that, they stopped. The code that came up indicated a loss of refrigerant. I contacted midea customer service and basically didn't offer any help. Their answer was that there's only one year warranty. I understand that, but two units last only two years? I was reading the owner's manual, and it clearly states that the compressor has a three year warranty and the seals, which is the problem for losing the refrigerant, have five years warranty. I contacted midea again, and basically, they didn't care to help me. Since I was not able to find a technician willing to work on window units, I had to dispose both units in the garbage. I purchased two 8k from Costco. One worked perfect. The other one would not cool very well and never shut off, even if the room was below thermostat setting. I contacted Midea and they had Me do some resets, etc. it never fixed it. So after about 6 weeks I returned to Costco the one that did not work. They refunded all. I bought a 12k cause that's all Costco had left and it works perfect, just like the other one I kept. So I am 2/3 working well. I must have had a bad one but Costco is a great place for this. They took back with no issues. I would recommend these even if I happened to get a bad one

Well ... where I am from we have been using split-type ACs all our lives. Since it's a scorching region, we use at least 18000 BTU and above units in every room. It's okay if you do not completely dry the filter before reinserting it into the unit. It goes on the evaporator coil that forms a lot of water when it cools down warm humid air. The water goes out through the drain below the coil. A wet filter dries up quicker inside. The only reason I shake the filter after washing is to get rid of excess water so it doesn't drip everywhere as I take it back to the indoor unit. Some recommendations for inverter ACs: 1) Depending on how dusty your environment is, clean the filter every week or every two weeks 2) Leave fan speeds on auto where available. 3) Run for prolonged periods on the lowest comfortable temperature setting rather than frequently turning on and off. 4) Depending on your skill, once a year, open the outdoor cover and hose down the condenser coil from the inside out, covering the fan motor and other electricals inside with foil or plastic. These steps keep your unit's performance at its best and cut down power costs. As once these ACs achieve the set temperature, the compressor shifts to the lowest torque to maintain that temperature instead of tripping like the non-inverter ACs. When that happens, the AMPs needed to run the unit drop significantly.

I bought a different inverter window AC that doesn't require a bracket. The reason is that, like millions of others, I have triple track storm windows. Their frames are actually at or slightly above sill level. I didn't want to have to build up the sill. The published noise level for both units was the same and they look remarkably similar.

I have 2 of these, both 12,000BTU units. Super quiet, efficient and consume less power than regular window units. The only way Midea could improve these is to install drain holes. The condensate pools at the rear of the units and is rusting the cooling fins The theory is that the condensate is kicked up over the cooling fins to increase cooling efficiency, but I live in Louisiana where the humidity is ridiculously high, so that's not needed. Drain holes with removable plugs would be a great additional feature.

I think, from another video by technology connections, that the water pooling there is intentional. It blows the air across the fins and increases cooling differential. It should not be rusting the blades however.

That doesn't make sense. The cooling fins are aluminum, same as all other air conditioners. They have to be in order to fit on the aluminum condenser coil. That's why they're so easy to accidentally bend just by grabbing them. Aluminum doesn't rust.

Aluminum does not rust but it does corrode. I live in south Louisiana as well and the humidity here tonight is predicted at 97%. Quite common. I have a central unit but also keep a window unit in the master bedroom. It is set on 62 for sleeping. I have had to replace a couple of units due to the fins corroding from the bottom up. I know the purpose of not having drain holes is the fan picks the water up and splashes it on the coils to cool them. Doesn’t work so well in bayou country. Leaves a slimy, thick gunk in the a/c. I remedied this by adding drain holes in each back corner. I have the 8000 unit and am not as thrilled as some. Ours stays installed year round and seldom if ever turned off. Even in winter time. White noise. There might be a few days and nights per year it is turned off, but not many. Ours would spin up on occasion and sound as though there was a semi coming down the street. I took it out of the window and dissembled for annual cleaning and found a sensor loose in its holder. I snugged that up and since cleaning and reassembly, the problem has gone away. Hopefully for good. The window unit has certainly helped the central unit not run as much during the daytime during the present heatwave with near 100 degree temps and high humidity and dew points. Todays heat index was 117. So glad we have air conditioning!

I have had one of these for 3 years and, as with all window ACs, the outside coils were pretty clogged up. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to access the dirty side of the outdoor coils. However, if you are handy with tools and have an extra long Phillips screwdriver, it's only a little bit tricky to take the covers off and clean the coils. I must say that it is easier to take apart than most other window ACs. Some are nearly impossible to take apart and are ready for the dumpster after 3 years because of this.

At one point the unit actually fell out of the window, about a 4 foot drop. Took us awhile but we persisted and finally got it installed. Surprisingly it worked great lol.

I got the 12,000 BTU Midea A/C and it is wonderful. Super quiet. Bought at Costco for $319 which is the best deal anywhere. Costco includes a 2nd year warranty for free. Installation was not too bad and I was very happy to see that they had a second parts bag that included extra screws and things which was fantastic. Many on line videos for installation including one from Midea. So far 2 friends have bought similar units after seeing mine.

I watched your other video for help on the install of my two units. I had no problem with the upstairs installation. These are way better than any other ac unit I've bought. As for the style of window, if you're willing to be innovative they will work on a sliding window. You'll need wood, insulation, and maybe some contact paper, but it can be done.

I installed mine last week. It does seem to have some great engineering, but they had a kindergartener design the "filtering" system. Leaky and a sure way to stop up the coils, which means a nasty difficult job to clean the coils, which is the worst job to have on a unit. I think I will get a universal foam prefilter and fit it to have less leakage. The foam doesn't have much restriction, so I think it will be beneficial.

Hey Fixer, your fins after washing that really dirty filter look pretty caked with dust too! Best a/c I have ever bought! I have the 8,000 BTU one and it's Super quiet, and it blows very cold! Love it! My energy usage last summer dropped 35% as I was using this instead of my central air at night in my bedroom. Saved lots of $ on electricity!

What, if you know, is the average temperature outside your house at night? I'm not sure if window AC units can be run if the outside temperature is below 60°F? Not sure though. But if I can drop this room temperature from 74°F to 68°F or 65°F that would be awesome.

@@Starry_Night_Sky7455 It can drop the temp in your room down to 61/62 if you want. It will run! The ac will run even if the outside temp drops down into the 50's. Most likely it will switch and just run the fan only if it gets too cold.

@@jenifer26071 a good AC unit can also lower the humidity and it circulates airflow. Opening a window doesn't really work as well as AC especially if the outside temperature at night invites skunks to perfume stink the air within a close enough distance. That and high pollen can be annoying. It will pull through a screen. Yellow pollen dust is a mess. Keeping the window closed using an extra AC you can set to your preference in addition to central air is so much better. Heat and humidity ruins things. It grows mold and mildew. Awful. I need my climate control nice and cool like a museum.

I love mine but wish the bracket didn't stick out so far on the smaller units and they would have put something on the outside fins to protect them from damage. It would also be nice if the auto mode would let the fan go even slower but you can on manual and either way it is much quieter than most window units.

It would be awesome if you could make a video on how to take this thing apart. There are some on KZbin already, but they royally suck. Mine started smelling musty and gross and it is very annoying. I love this AC unit and now I'm quite screwed until I figure this out. I live in LA, so it's a pretty dry climate overall, mine is installed properly tilted back slightly, and the room is clean. My filter has never gotten even 10% as dirty as yours. I also DO NOT have visible mold inside, so I'm very confused as to why it suddenly is unusable due to this smell.

During installation I thought I made a mistake, the "foam" inserts are actually 7.5" on the left & 5" on the right, the "center" of the mounting bracket is centered! I "assumed" that the unit would be as well its not, because the "grooves" underneath the AC aren't either ... you didn't mention the "measurement of the "right" foam piece you cut, I thought I did something wrong. SOOOOOO I purchased mine 4/2021. It worked AMAZING!!!! I only needed it starting in late may that year, until the end of sept. Then it was taken out of the window carefully & stored in my shed. The next summer. My daughter & I take it out install it the SAME WAY! I watch the same “how to video” on KZbin JIC I forget a step & make sure I do it step by step. But FOR WHATEVER reason, the summer of 2022 it was MUCH MUCH louder than the first summer (2021) & MOST DEFINITELY DID NOT COOL NEARLY as well as it did the first summer. The first summer I had to constantly keep it on eco cuz the house would get so cold. But the 2nd summer, I actually had to put a fan within 3ft of it on circulate TO ATTEMPT to circulate what LITTLE cool air it did produce. When in reality, it only just JACKED UP my eclectic bill by a solid $300 a month!!!! And It also started to smell TERRIBLY GROSS!!!! SORT of like a *mildewy*??? Pond water moldy kind of Sort of smell???? Really weird! And THENNNN suddenly It also started to accumulate SOOOOO MUCH water in the base that it was flooding into my kitchen. I checked the balance level to ensure that we installed it at proper angles/levels etc & such making sure we didn’t go crooked with any measurements. But NOPE! WE WERE ON POINT ! STRAIGHT ON POINT!!! I tried to LIGHTLY adjust everything at that point to get the water to flow to the rear & drain. AND THAT DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!! So I just put it back to the proper alignment installation it was prior. We suffered that whole summer of 2022. But I was going through surgeries every 4-8 weeks & drs appts much more often than that! So I really wasn’t trying to stress myself out more with trying to deal with THIS BS! THANK GOD I purchased the added 4 year insurance (I purchased on Amazon & insurance was only like $40-$45 for 4 years.). BECAUSE since I don’t have an outdoor hose access to ATTEMPT to clean this thing & attempt to fix it myself, the insurance ended up just replacing it all together. But now I’m like 🤔🤔 well now what do I do with this huge clunker still in my shed???? I also wonder if I’ll be calling the insurance again w After just 2 summers use (3-4 months) just to file yet another report about the same problems 😂😂. I mean. 😂ith how shtty & cheapy things are made today it wouldn’t surprise me. But also it’s SUCH A HASTLE.

Idea recommends cleaning the front removable filters twice monthly. Easy rinse. On the coils behind that, the non-removable metal has very delicate fins. Avoid brushes. One person said they used a very gentle vacuuming. Make sure all gaps around unit are sealed off. 😊

Hello, I'm a rare guest from Europe and apparently I have an English style sash window and I wanted to get this model (I can't install a split system for various reasons). Apparently, Midea is only selling them in the States (very tricky to deliver to Europe) and they're 110V only (this is solvable though). So I ended up with a normal window unit, but I guess this U-shaped one has a lot more features and it's a lot quieter. Cheers from Europe! P.S. mobile ACs suck, literally, they suck the air they just cooled, also their EER is horribly low.

I do love the AC, but I will be doing some DIY on the install as my window is much wider than it was built for. Wish they made a wide window version. This would only effect the bracket and the foam inserts. Also I might add, I bought mine from Home Depot, and the first one we got did not turn on. Found this out after the install, so I would test it before you install it just to save you some potential hassle. Luckily Home depot only made me return the unit and allowed me to leave the bracket install...so kudos to Home depot.

Get you a can of coil cleaner for those coils. I watched your video from a year ago on the install. It was perfect I was able to install without the manual. My first night was COLD and beyond belief that it was so quiet and cooled very quickly (Florida). I was then Shocked again when I went to look at my solar battery state of charge and it was only down 10%. The old AC required 30-40% overnight. Time will tell but so far its a fantastic unit. Got mine and here is my take. 1) Have vinyl siding and the bracket required me to add a board to the feet (legs) to make it stable. 2) Everyone says it is so quiet. As you mentioned, luck of the draw I guess. Mine vibrates a great deal (shakes a picture on the wall) and also has a grinding sound when the fan starts. Called Midea and was told this is normal. Huh??????? So I can't say the customer service was of much help. I may try them again and see if a different person has any insight. My guess is this unit was damaged in transit and my only recourse will be to take the case off and figure out what has been broken loose.

Great video and I really haven't read the comments yet. Question I have is do they sell replacement filters. I installed ours a few days ago so we are fairly new to the performance of this unit. So far it's been working very well. Must say that the instructions make it seem like the installation is super easy but it does take a bit to get it installed. Nothing crazy hard but some steps that need to be followed in order to get it installed correctly. Good job dude, much appreciate you taking the time to put this video together.

Actually I’m about to install this on a sliding window. I’m going to basically use a pc of plywood and make a hole big enough for it to slide through. The ply is big enough to butt up against the top and bottom frames, as well as one side. Then just put another pc of ply, cut from the hole, and edge it with smoke seal, and slide it into the position that the sash would normally sit. It won’t be aesthetically pretty to look at, but I’ll just paint the ply an appliance white to match it to the frame. Should work good. I’ll update in a few days after I install it.

i did mine in a sliding window but as i said in my comment i went and got a used vertical and used that and a piece of plywood on top to use for the ac and it made a big difference in light and visibility in the room. and yes i did have to use some foam to seal the sliding window to the inserted vertical window and a window lock. I just got one 12,000 btus and I have a 420 sq approximately but it’s not strong enough- I see that others have installed more, But I think that in that case I think you’re better off getting a mini split which I think I’ll end up doing. I want to get a 24k mini split to cool down completely the area. Just my experience- otherwise the Midea is good for a smaller area probably a 300sqft for the 12k btus

I bought the 8k unit last year and I absolutely loved it! But I guess I should have taken it in for the winter because this year I turned it on and got the DREADED error EC 07 and the condenser will not start 😞

I recommend these units, but with a lot of caveats. If you have air quality issues, the single best thing you can do is put a generic foam prefilter in front of the manufacturers filter screen. Make sure you cut it sized to fit in snugly. And make sure you keep it clean. Despite what the instructions say, you want this unit to tilt back like a traditional window unit. There can be issues with water not draining properly and either being spit back into the room, or mixing with dust and dirt creating mold/mildew issues and bad smells. I've had to disassemble these units to clean them multiple times, cleaning the squirrel cage fan blades is a pain. as is opening the actual compartment it mounts into to get any built up dirt/mold on those surfaces.
