[Fixed] GE Universal Remote Menu Buttons Not Working

The remote for my Sceptre TV went bad so I replaced it with a GE universal remote from Amazon. I used the codes from the manual to program the remote to the TV but the directional menu buttons would not work. I was able to fix this by using the automatic scanning function to search for a different code that would work with this TV.

You are a God Send. Man I've had this remote for like 5 to 10 years and never opened it. Once I did, I was disappointed it wasnt working. I've tried to program this Hisense Roku TV before but it wasn't working. The online instructions don't tell you to do it then way you did with the volume button. Thank you so much This worked

Pop off the battery cover and there will be a sticker that tells you if it is a CL5 or whatever and it gives you the 4 digit numeric code. Your welcome!

Omg you helped me! My TV was a sanyo and I'm so glad you included the sanyo codes in the video too cause it saved me. My TV sucks when I try and manually change the volume its old and sometimes would switch the Chanel or go in the opposite direction for the volume

None of the codes worked so I used the auto option and the very first try my tv turned off. So I thought that was it. The arrow buttons didnt work to change input. Googled arrow buttons not working on GE remote and it lead me here. What I did was tried the auto option again, but covered the ir blaster for the first set it does. On the 3rd set the tv went off. Now I can use the arrows to select the input. Was ready to return it as my DirecTV remote will do volume and power, but not input. I gave a like and subscribed. Thank you.

Sceptre can use Sony TV codes. I saw it at the Sceptre support website.

We have a converter box that seems to be having a similar problem: the directional arrows change channels or volume, and the channel menu won’t scroll with the arrows…it will only change channels. Your guide worked through turning the box off, but there is no button to manually turn the box back on, and finish the process to see if it works. Anybody have experience with this??

Yep it's still working. I've been playing tons of BF V on it lately. I'm sure it won't last forever and it'll start making the noise again someday. And on that day I will break out the grease again!
