My abuela was awesome. She taught me to whistle as a kid as she learned that as a kid as well to gather her brothers in the countryside (The super feminine type of whistle with two fingers of each hand in the mouth 👉👄👈), she got married at 30 years old after having several boyfriends and always advised me to not get married unless I really felt like settling down. She used to tell me also that is never good to tell all your secrets to even your best girl friends because you never know and keep private things like how good is my man in bed because friends are not always loyal. She got married to a man 6 years younger than her (Scandalous at the time. She was born in 1931) and she was a terrible cook. xD

My abuelita was really quiet, didnt talk much and loved and treated all of us equally. She actually did and that was one of her best attributes that i like to remember.
@DianaJ019 жыл бұрын
My abue is lovely in this particular aspect, she's sexist, it's easy to see when she's with my mom and aunts, but she won't force anything on me except from etiquette (which isn't really bad) and having a good language. Maybe it's because she raised her daughters by her own since my grandpa died when my mom was 3, that she learnt the importance of being a hard-working, educated and well-rounded woman for the sake of your own well being, not depending on someone else. My MOM on the other hand... She just supports the laboral independence of a woman, but about everything else..Do you smell it? I think it's the smell of dinosaurs Ah! So sad 😞

Funny thing about my grandmother, after her husband died and she was left with two kids, she did finally got a way to provide for her family. She was well educated and has like five colleges degrees, three of which she got on a whim after her kids already grew up and moved out.

my abuelita has two sides. She either doesn't want me to look at men or she want's me to get a good one. Like, once I was going to class and she said "Y no me mires a ningun feo por ahí. ¡Primero te me graduas!" then few days later while I was going to a party "Arreglate bien bonita hijita, pero no le hagas caso a los feos, mejor uno que ya sea profesional" Then there are other times that she says "Otra carrera hubieses escogido. Medicina es muy larga, vas a tener nietos en lugar de hijos y ni vas a trabajar por cuidarlos" and then she says "Tu marido tiene que ser alguien con bastante tiempo para cuidar a tus hijos. Y ni te dejes, tu vas a trabajar"

+Migbel Davila I'm a dude and my mom asks the same from me :T, its not that much a sexist thing more of a polite thing if you invite someone to your house. In a way your showing hospitality, your gender doesn't matter. "sirveles a los hombres, tu primo, al tio victor" is sexist, well when they are specificlly adressing the men at some reunion/party/etc... and expect you as a women to serve the food to them.

Ok I know I'm late for this but last week my grandma told me a crazy story about the first picture she took with my grandpa... apparently back then it was looked down upon for a woman to take a picture with a man if they weren't engaged at least, so she had a lot of problems in her house because her mother believed that.. like: "watch it.. if a man takes a picture with you that means he has another intentions" like WTF??! She's turning 90 next month and now she just laughs about it (But still thinks I shouldn't be accepting gifts from male friends bc they would "have another intention").. I love her.

Not sure about my abuelita, but my abuelo, he loves me and all his granddaughters, but when one of my male cousins or my brothers shows up its like a baby angel came down from heaven and blessed the room. There's like hugging and kissing, and showing them off to other family members and friends. He only has three granddaughters, and the other two have already fulfilled their duty and procreated, so I guess my only redeeming quality is that I speak English and live in the U.S., which is why end up speaking with children and teenagers at get togethers when ever I'm visiting them in Mexico, since they make me speak to anyone who speaks English in English, which mostly turns out to be children of friends, and then they all go "ohhhhh, mira que buen habla. Que te dijo?"

My 10 year old cousin once came home from baseball practice and started telling us (abuelita inclueded) all about how great she was at it, and how she was looking forward to her next game. My abuelita just turned to her and told her, "Mija, tu no deberías de estar jugando eso, ese juego no es para mujeres." I just looked over to my cousin and made a "don't take it too seriously" face, but honestly the damage at that point had already been done. Love you abuelita, but sometimes you can be flat out sexist.

One of my abuelitas was a working mother, the other one had only sons so she taught them to take care of themselves, so I was mostly off the hook. On the other hand, my conservative grandma always told me to close my legs when sitting down and I suspect the only reason she's not asking me when I'll get married is that she thinks I'm still 12
