@monroe13086 жыл бұрын
Actually yes, every Latino country differs in dialect, accent, food, tradition, and overall culture. No one country is exactly like another. For example, a Dominican usually has nothing in common with a mexican other than the fact that they both speak Spanish, and even then they speak using different words and completely different accents. And no one expects you to have the duty of knowing where we are from but if you ask and then have the audacity to make it same like "we are all the same" it can come off as pretty disrespectful.. It is also not "our duty" to have to try to alleviate some rude persons ignorance. Not trying to be disrespectful but this topics can get crazy. Being a Latina myself and also taking a Latin American studies class, I know what I am talking about. Sorry for the essay.

Im pretty sure i live in a house but let me check... 4. I have never worn a "sombrero" and please get a dictionary because sombrero means hat, not your cinco de mayo hat. just hat. Oh and by the way we don't celebrate cinco de mayo. what even is that? 5. Taco Bell is an insult to Mexican food. Its literally disgusting. We don't do hard shells or dorito shells or put bacon in a quesadilla. A taco is a warm tortilla with meat inside it, a flauta is a fried taco with cream and lettuce on it, and a quesadilla is a tortilla with only cheese inside it, maybe salsa and it is not pronounced cuesadila,

@shadyhenry35119 жыл бұрын
Exactly I'm from Egypt and everyone thinks I wear the clothes they wear in Saudi Arabia it so annoying
@mkm902109 жыл бұрын
Maria Noordino Because the Arabian Gulf countries kept the Arabic values and the traditional clothes....the pride of the Arabia even after World War II. However, most North African countries such as Egypt, Morocco, are imitating the Western Countries of wearing the same clothes. They lost the value. Wearing suit with tie, or jeans is not even considered Arabic customs.
@oumiskincare9 жыл бұрын
Chavezoid ahhaha thanks! :) mkm90210 Well you can't really blame us for being influenced by western cultures, because firstly, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria were colonized by the French for many years, and Egypt by the British, so of course there are remnants of history's influence on us today. Secondly, Morocco's population is heavily mixed with Berbers, who have nothing to do with Arab blood. But even so, us Moroccans still managed to maintain our own customs in terms of clothing too; we were never influenced the middle eastern clothing customs, we have our very own traditional ones that we still wear today, it's called a Jalaba.
@nexusvexusus40969 жыл бұрын
Maria Noordino Well here are 2 serous question for you then: 1) Is there a proper term to racially describe the peoples of the Middle East? The term "Middle Eastern people" doesn't seem to me to be a proper term to racially describe the people of the Middle East and, quite frankly, it's too long of a word. At one time I used the word Persian, but I've learned that only refers to Iranians or Iraqis I think. The term "Arabs" I would think is one to only describe the race of people you would find as the majority on the Arabian peninsula and its surrounding areas. It seems there are several different kinds of people that live in the Middle East, so inventing a term like "Middle Easterner" doesn't seem right. What exactly is the proper term? 2) Who exactly are Berbers and what do they look like typically? Do they look like darker skinned Arabs? Are they a race of people that probably originated from a mix of blacks and Arabs? Are they the ones who later became Moors, took over Spain, and mixed into the Spanish population?
@jenmars70889 жыл бұрын

Liz, Chile

@andresestupinan23319 жыл бұрын
@andresestupinan23319 жыл бұрын

#1 misconception about "Latinos" is... that "Latino" actually means something. The only country in Latin America I can honestly say I feel an affinity with is Bolivia, and that's because my parents are from there and I've lived there. I've been to Peru, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, but I don't necesarily feel any affinity with those countries or know anything more about them than anyone else. Why should appending the label "latino" suddenly make them "my people"? This isn't to say I feel any antagonism towards those countries, just that, despite being "latino", I'm not any more an authority on them than an Austrian or a Kenyan.

Over 10 years ago, my Colombian friend did a year of high school abroad in Japan and whenever people asked him questions about Colombia, he would tell them that everyone lives in tree houses in the jungle, wears leopard pelts, and goes from place to place by swinging on vines. Sometimes I wonder how many of those people still to this day believe that all Colombians live like George of the Jungle.

First of all: Joanna, ¡me encantan tus videos! I love the fact that you're showing the world how beautiful and diverse the Hispanic/Latino community is whilst keeping it entertaining and fun to watch. I love your personality and I think you're doing a great job. I'm from Tenerife (Canary Islands), a beautiful Spanish island off the coast of Africa, in the Atlantic Ocean. Culturally, Canarian people are somewhere in the middle between Spain and Latin America. On one hand our currency is the Euro, we watch Spanish TV, go to Spanish shops and banks, eat tortilla española, paella, chorizo and jamón serrano. And then, on the other hand, we eat arepas, cachapas, tequeños, pan de jamón, carne mechada, dulce de leche, we say millo instead of maíz, maní instead of cacahuete, cotufas (pop corn) instead of palomitas and guagua instead of bus. The Canarian accent is very similar to the Venezuelan one, in fact people always think I'm Venezuelan when they hear me speaking. Y'all should visit the Canary Islands, they are gorgeous! Now, something that always gets me is that when I go to some countries in Europe and tell the people from those countries that I'm Spanish they always say: "Ooooh 😮, Spanish! Fajitas, burritos, tacos, nachos, sombrero, mariachi, picante, caliente, tequila, margarita, fiesta, siesta, arriiiiiiiiba." And I'm like.... "Seriously? I'm Spanish, not Mexican 😒 Come on man, we're on the same continent!"

One that I would like to put on the table is that if you look like a "typical Black woman from the hood", that you can not, by any circumstance, be a latina, or speak Spanish. Let's not forget that thousands of Africans were dropped off in South America. I'm Afro-Cuban, btw.

I'm Spanish, and although we are not from América Latina, we are Latinos because we speak spanish, a lenguage that comes from Latin. And last term, a group of Northern Europeans students from diferent countries came to my school. One day, the WiFi wasn't working properly, and (as I'm the student ahead of technology in my year) I was changing the WiFi network to every student's computer. One of the students shouted at me from one corner to the opposite and said: Hey, Latina! Can you fix my computer? I was not looking in her direction so I didn't know that she was talking to me (because we were in a room full of Spanish people and we have all a name). Then she approached me and tapped my shoulder, and again (but this time directly to me), said the same thing. Let me clarify, I'm absolutely proud of being Latina, but there are millions of Latinos in the world, and every single one of us has a name, so please, call me by my name or simply tap my shoulder. And yes, she already knew my name

I'm from Mexico and I live in Mexico City, but anytime I go to another country people seem have a lot of stereotypes about us that are not always right. For example, people always ask me about Burritos and Fajitas and I actually have never seen or eaten a burrito lol. Also, we have a big variety of food and people think we only eat tacos wtf Also, a lot of people think that we all live in a dessert, like.... what? And, I hate it when they say we speak "Mexican", we don't speak Mexican!!!!! We speak Spanish -.-

I hate that there's basically no distinction between being Mexican-American and being Mexican in the US. I was born and raised in Mexico and hate no ties to the US whatsoever, so it's annoying that if I decided to live there people would think I'm an American citizen. Why describe yourself as Mexican if you've never lived or even been here? That's very annoying to me.

Exospheredweller Yeah really just meant Mexican and Mexican-American as ethnicities rather than `races´. A Mexican person´s culture is very very different to a child whose parents are Mexican but was born and raised in the US and that´s my whole point.
