it's not a matter of affordability but rather getting my money's worth - the VALUE in a purchase. Floatwheel comes with 9 HP peak, can get all kinds of different tires, 36 mile range for $1000 LESS than this new GT. Plus, I can repair, upgrade, replace anything on the Floatwheel. Future Motion should do what Microsoft is doing now by embracing the opensource movement - M$ is moving to linux and FM should just embrace VESC and concentrate on selling quality performance parts - better motors, batteries, BMSs, controllers, tires, accessories. If Future Motion went VESC and came up with a more reliable, cooler, lighter 10-15 HP motor - why wouldn't I buy from them? Step into the 21st century of the opensource movement FM.

Heck, you could buy a stock GT and VESC it for that money. That's Patton, T4, S22 Pro price bracket. Nuts. Also, a lower capacity battery at a higher voltage can last just as long at the same power draw levels as a lower voltage higher capacity battery

People who think floatwheel is going to crush FM are delusional. You can't even finance the floatwheel and you need to pay for it using shitcoin networks, in full. After this you need to wait 1-3 months to get it in two different boxes and spend 1-5 hours building and programming the thing. The GT-S gets to your house in a week, ready to go no setup required. The GT-S also weighs 10+ pounds lighter than a floatwheel. Floatwheel is cool but the GT-S blows it out of the water in nearly every way except for price 😂

I think everyone is missing the real point of the extra voltage. I don't think it has anything, at all, to do with higher top speed. That doesn't even make any sense! It's only 8KPH higher, FFS! That could have been done at a much lower voltage, with a much less expensive battery. People still think 20MPH is quite fast (which, TBH, is rather… precious to the EUC and eSkate community, but eh…). Going faster, while it'll make a very small niche sector of the market cream their pants, won't sell all that many boards, especially at $3k+. From an electrical engineering point of view, the real purpose is obvious: this is about the CPSC findings and the threat of an actual, real recall. First, it should be noted that their current solution, the stupid app and firmware update, with haptic feedback and the annoying buzz, does NOT, in any way, shape, or form, actually solve the issue that prompted the recall. This is because the issue with people being catapulted off boards that spontaneously fail and nose dive is NOT because the riders ignored existing safety features and pushed through and past pushback, beyond the nominal top speed of the boards. Rather, the issue is seen in times when the board is well below push back threshold, and fails spontaneously, just shutting off power to the motor with NO advance warning, and catapulting the unsuspecting rider off the front! This can be triggered in situations where the rider is exceptionally heavy, or carrying a load, and then attempts to accelerate, even from a very low speed, even a very small amount, uphill. The ESC then calls for a significant Amperage bump that the battery/BMS can not put out, and instead of "doing its best" the ESC, just like when the recharge exceeds the battery voltage, responds by simply shutting off entirely! I have had this happen to me on several occasions, e.g., when I (a pretty light 69-71kg) was carrying a very heavy backpack loaded with groceries, and going VERY slowly up a slight incline. As the terrain shifted just a bit, and the incline increased just a few degrees or so (and of course with a large number of people who just happened to be watching!) the board simply failed, seemingly out of nowhere. No pushback, nothing. Just completely shut off the motor, sending me flying off the front of the board onto my face (and then getting hit by my groceries from behind to add insult to injury). By increasing the voltage headroom WAY above the pushback threshold, and, I can almost guarantee, way above even the top wattage output the ESC will produce, they have gotten around this safety issue, not by rewriting the ESC firmware and FOC motor control code with some different methodology of dealing with these edge cases, but by just moving the edge case. The significantly higher voltage allows the motor control circuitry to always be able to force even the most persistent rider to back off when they attempt to go too fast, because now it has enough power to force even the heaviest rider to lean back, as well as giving the ESC the headroom necessary to (hopefully) remove the edge cases like that described above, where the ESC/BMS/battery simply can not output enough power to instantaneously respond to the data coming in via the sensors, and thus responds by simply failing outright! A the higher voltage, the ESC can now through a huge Amperage spike at the motor in these edge cases, preventing the ESC from shutting off power to the motor and keeping the rider upright and on the board. This is just basic electrical engineering, things kids learn in like the first semester after they declare their EE major, and not exactly a secret. The real issue is that there is a series of bugs and flaws in the firmware and hardware of all current Onewheels that FM is not trying to address (possibly because it is a very intractable and difficult issue to troubleshoot; just look at the time and difficulty surfdado and others in the VESC community had in trying to isolate and solve the nose hunting issues while going over planked surfaces) or perhaps that they just don't recognize even exists (it does) convinced in their intellectual superiority and that the issue is related to rider error (pushback being ignored) and being too shortsighted and arrogant to even recognize an actual flaw in their hardware and code. I.e., this is the board they should have designed from the get go, and the board that was forced by the CPSC ruling, and the one they hope to migrate to over time, so that any real recall that occurs (once the CPSC figures out the the current joke from FM doesn't actually solve the real world problem) they will only by forced to recall a small number of actual existing boards, as most XRs, Pints, and GTs will have outlived their battery service lives and will not be being ridden. This "solves" the problem by brute force bypassing the edge cases that cause it in the first place, not actually finding and addressing the actual problem. This is the only way the jump to such a high Voltage makes any sense (especially given the merely modest performance bump the GT-S has over the GT, especially relative to the added cost. But all that said, I suspect the new cases and complaints to the CPSC will start pretty quickly from those who still have Pints, XRs, and GTs who have catastrophic failures, some of which lead to deaths, that promoted the first recall, even after the firmware update is forced on them, and the S-series will not be able to prevent that. Rant over.

How can you still throw dubs on? Doesn't the new digital shaping not allow digital leveling?
@steezli8993 Жыл бұрын
Sure you can’t digital shape it but that doesn’t make dubs completely inrideable and with custom you can do a 3deg nose tilt. The nose tilt in custom isn’t as good as digital leveling but it works well enough for general riding and off-roading, mostly only bothers trick riders.
