When you know your people are a small section of the community it helps laser focus efforts inside of the business too. ❤ this year we are really focused on not even thinking about trying to be all things to all people. "The best clients are willing to pay you a lot of money to get the results. The worst clients wanna pay you by the hour to do the thing." That is just the plain truth. When I see the comments on some of your Shorts, I wonder why some creatives are so comfortable being stagnant and forgettable. The best way to grow is truly working on projects that you want to see succeed and charge accordingly. Bring more Blair goodness, please.

This is so powerful. I practice this at work even in my first year as a Recruitment Consultant (digital media talents) and got the highest billing (across the company) for 1 deal during my 14th month on the job. I didn’t know that was the case and that was not normal in my field bec i had no idea what the standard was so i just kept pushing for it bec my boss just kept telling my to try it out. 5 years later i now feel more experienced in like what Blair said “putting the hurdle in front of a prospective client” and it’s also because it’s so tiring to put the same amount of effort, if not more, for a low paying client when i could get those revenue in easily from other clients. I definitely didn’t have enough proof of success in my 1st then but i was always sure of my work ethic so i held on to that every time i negotiated Terms. My core skills caught up over the years also bec of those work opportunities i closed in high fees! 👀👀 oh now that makes more sense as im thinking and typing this You guys have been a constant resource for me in helping me build a stronger psychology. Thanks guys!! 💙💙💙💙

Addressing the issues of money early is important. When did it become impolite to talk about money? The idea of being precautions and scared to raise this topic is harmful for your business. Being comfortable with such conversations is absolutely crucial.

5:00 even the personal stuff - I was taught it’s impolite to talk about money too, but I never understood why and I never practiced it except with total strangers. But when friends or aquaintances of mine tell me about their new house or car or computer or their job I ALWAYS ask them „Cool, what did you pay? How much do you make?“ simply because it’s interesting to me. And the funny thing is, nobody ever took it the wrong way. Most people like to talk about money actually. They like to boast a little bit about the good deal they got or maybe complain about their salary, and it always leads to very interesting conversations. It’s totally fine. Just talk about money, people! We all have some of it and we all want to get more of it.

This is frustrating not only as the creator but also the client. I have been on both sides of this. I've worked with a sales person to do some media with my company everything was great and we wanted to go forward with it then come to find out we were light years a part on price. It wasted several hrs and meetings for nothing. Highly frustrating for me and Im sure for him as well. So yes, discussing price earlier is beneficial for everyone.

That’s what I mean, this applies to big ‘city’ contracts but for graphic designers you won’t get those 40k contracts really unless you find huge corporations that just aren’t in small towns. That being said this same concept could be applied to ‘big money’ 5k jobs for design
