This is where I'd debate Jase a bit as there are other aspects to console gaming that would keep it alive for a while yet, likewise I think cloud gaming wouldn't replace local gaming, but I think it'll co-exist with it. @PazLeBon6 ай бұрын
@@TheNerdstalgicPodcast i think i probably consider myself less than average consumer nowadays, having been long term gamer, from atari, through playstations etc. P.C gaming has been way way cheaper with upgrades really about every 7 years and whichever way its dressed up its far better gaming experience, better speed, graphics, refresh rates, everything and all cloud based like steam. also not much more expensive han a console. on the other end, the hand helds can now perform as well as a console and are in many cases, even cheaper and offer several big advantages. That leaves the console having no actual user base, its pretty much obsolete in the very same way a mobile phone stopped the landline :)

This is awesome. Glad you guys are still doing this. In regards to consoles, I was born in 1991, so my first consoles were the PS1 and Gameboy and I still play them to this day. I've had a lot of consoles since then, PS2, XBOX, 360, PS3, PS4 and when the PS5 and Xbox Series X were released it was the first time I actually thought, nah, not for me. I think gaming is taking a really weird turn. It started last generation when we started seeing more and more games being released unfinished, or with nefarious micro transactions. It started being less about releasing a well rounded, fun, complete product and was almost being sold to gamers like a drug would. We will give you a taste, you'll get hooked and then we will drip feed you small amounts of content for more and more money. Now we're in a place where games are being talked about in the same vain as Netflix, but movies and games are completely different. You might watch a movie what, once, two times a year tops? Games are played for long periods of time and gamers tend to continue to play their favourite games over and over. This year I've really got back in to retro gaming, there's something super fun about just popping in a game and playing it. Seeing the case and manual, the artwork and care that went in. No day one 40gb patch. I think with the new subscription format Playstation and Xbox will be shooting themselves in the foot. Because who would want to pay prices in their specific stores when there's more market variety on PC? Nintendo will be fine I think, they always do their own thing. I also think that Nintendo like to make physical products, Amiibo, accessories, quirky consoles. So hopefully they stick to making great physical media.

Saved £500 a year on electric and I can play my games at top settings without having to pay 1k a year to keep upgrading and I only pay 90 bucks a year... if you have fibre optic or fast internet connection then you're laughing all the way to the bank.. One thing you didn't mention is Cloud Gaming and how your smartphone can be used to consume it? Even more so, if you have something like a Samsung Galaxy S, Note or ZFold that you can plug into your TV via USB-C to HDMI and then you have a big screen console, all from your smartphone!
