I just love watching you give your thoughts about boardgames man. I used to search for your reviews when browsing the dice tower. Please keep it up and I wish you great success! Also, film more playthroughs! Oh, and you spelled Pennsylvania wrong in the title... :)

Really good review. I was really excited when I got my hands on this map pack. I think it's probably the best they've put out so far - the only one I've not played is Maerklin. When we played PA, we assumed that you didn't score any points for the routes, only for the shares, and it did actually work really well. The UK version is absolutely the gamer's version of TTR!

Are you supposed to score for the routes?

We were thinking of house ruling it so that most of the technologies in the UK were an action to play, just to balance it a bit. Particularly if the first player had a few wilds in hand, they could steal a march on everyone.

Just a bit confused about technology cards. Every time, before each move you have to get the technology card you need? Or do you get it once for good, until you finish playing the game?

Once you have the card it’s good for the game

So how do you ever build routes that are more than 2 trains in length?
@TheGameBoyGeeks2 жыл бұрын
You must get the ability card that allows you too as well as getting cards to get into different countries

Hmm, seems like an unnecessary caveat? Surely every player goes for this as soon as possible in nearly every game?

Hey Dan, regarding Switzerland, do you have an issue with the random ticket draw for already completed routes? I know some play with variants where you can score each route once, etc. Do you play vanilla where there ends up being an emphasis on route drawing, or do you play any kind of variant?
@TheGameBoyGeeks9 жыл бұрын
It can get crazy if people just draw tickets at the end but I haven't tried any variants.

+TheGameBoyGeek - Hi Quality Hi Energy Board Game Reviews Thanks for your input. This aspect of the map seemed "odd" to me, but if it's your favorite 2-player map, we should give it another go.

+Misterboy You can just draw tickets at every version, a friend of mine, ended the game, and when it all came back to him, he drew 3 tickets, and had 2 of them ready for 26 points total ....
@misterlad9 жыл бұрын
Evgeni Dimitrov You can draw tickets in any version, but it's a real gamble. In Switzerland there is a distinct problem with multiple cards for the Country-to-Country routes. This isn't the case in other versions. Also, these routes are worth a lot of points. Finally, it's not so much an issue with pulling a lot of cards in the end... it's that it's entirely possible to get multiple of the same route mid-game. If that occurs, you just won due to random luck, which is the key issue.

I'm still getting confused about the Penn State map, the dummy player rules... of the stocks. Can you explain it to me. Thanks.
@TheGameBoyGeeks6 жыл бұрын
Whenever a player takes a Stock Share, he chooses a Stock Share for the dummy player (among those available on the route that he just claimed). The selected Share is placed face down next to the others. At the end of the game, before scoring the Railroad Shares, shuffle the Shares of the dummy player, count them, and reveal half of the total number (rounded up). The dummy player's Shares must be considered when calculating the different majorities. You do not have to give him points though. Example:For the B&O Railroad, Mark has 2 Shares, the dummy player has 2 Shares, and Eric has 1 Share. Mark scores 20 points and Eric scores 9.

Thank you GameBoyGeek.

So does that mean the dummy player is only here to confuse the other player of the stocks?

On the UK map when one buys a technology, is that the end of your turn or do you get to buy cards/ place trains also?
@TheGameBoyGeeks9 жыл бұрын
Once before your normal turn you can buy one technology.

EXACTLY why there was not proper explanation in the rules for the scoring etc. It should not be that hard to include it.

Can people who are playing United Kingdom please tell me how you are interpreting the Technology Card "Right Of Way" that allows you to claim a route that someone else has already played? Reason: I am foreseeing 3 debates with my family and I just want to see if I can get a consensus. First, if there are more than 2 players someone can play the same route on a double track without using a Right of Way card but in a 2-player game the Right of Way could be very significant. Take for ex. Edinburgh to Newcastle. There are double tracks. So, player A plays the green track...player B cannot play the pink track. However, player B is holding the Right of Way Tech Card so I'm assuming player B can play the Tech Card and 3 pink cards and place train cars BESIDE player A's train cars (share the route) and thus, have permission to play on the double track in a 2-player game...NO PROBLEM. The problem is when you have 3-4 players and the single or double track is already occupied and someone then wants to claim a route. Do they play their train cars and remove the other player's cars from the board (thus claiming the route)? Does claiming mean to share the same route or take over the route? It seems claiming would mean to take possession of someone else's route because IF you have 3-4 players and 2 have already taken possession of the Edinburgh to Newcastle route (green and pink tracks) then how does player 3 or 4 claim a route? Do they remove someone's train cars so they can play theirs OR do they choose the green or pink track; play the 3 cards of the same color and then place their train cars beside the other player (not on the allotted spaces but beside). Thus, Edinburgh to Newcastle could then be occupied by 1, 2, 3 or even 4 players. So...how are you playing the Right of Way? Claiming to share the same route with someone already on that route OR claiming (take possession of OR removing) their route so that you can play yours. This would also be very significant in the single track routes. If someone has already claimed the Londonderry to Dundalk route (3 pink cards/cars) and someone else wants to claim it; how would he/she use the Right of Way Tech Card OR do you even think it can be used on a single track route? Would player B remove player A's cars and replace them with his/her OR would he/she simply play the Right of Way Tech card, 3 pink train cards and then place 3 of his/her train cars beside player A's cars to show 2 players are sharing the same route? See my point? We are back to the original question: Do we share the route or claim it by removing the other player. As you can see I am very analytical and the rules for this specific Technology Card are very vague. Someone needed to be a little more specific on what it means to "claim a route that was already claimed by another player." My family is VERY competitive and while introducing new games to them they rely on me to watch these game play video tutorials to explain to them "how" the game is played and "why" certain moves can or cannot be played. Thanks...I look forward to seeing how people are interpreting all of this IF you were able to stay with me through my lengthy thought process :+)

@@TheGameBoyGeeks Thanks for that. I might go for this one. India seems big fun :). The terrain cards in "heart of Africa" are also a nice addition but they are hardly used (at least not with us) if you play only 2 people. But with 3 or 4 it's a nice little extra and can even make the difference in the end.
