Such excellent timing on this retrospective review. Since everyone has gotten the nextgen consoles, I finally got a 360. Solely for my favorite franchise. I'm actually playing Banjo-Kazooie right now on Arcade and I'm excited about the functionality of StopNSwap (finally). I'm glad you mentioned all the history and easter eggs involving Project Dream! And for anyone reading this who hated Nuts and Bolts, I actually really like the atmosphere. Granted the gameplay is buggy, but I think the feel is very true to the roots (The first appearance of Banjo was a racing game, after all, and Banjo Pilot was a thing.) In short, I am ecstatic about finally getting a 360 for my first love and I really appreciate your appreciation :3

classic and adventure era sonic The fact that the guys form Playtonic Games left Rare and want to do a spiritual successor to Banjo shows they wanted to keep doing these games. The higher-ups at Microsoft thought differently. So I don't see how Banjo being dead is Playtonic's fault.

One of the things I think that gives Banjo Tooie it's strength is that it's a sequel that fully expects you to have played the prior game. It gives you everything from that game with no tutorial on the original game's basics, then uses that basis to expand on everything. Interesting series. I feel that it delves a bit too hard into informative at times, and the side comments tend to be rather elongated at times; it almost seems you're laughing at your own comments at times. In something like this, I think there should be a bit more of an opinion piece, as well as providing the historical information in th concise format as you did. Will check out some of the other vids.

Miss this series a ton. Banjo-Tooie is one my all time favorites. Never had I seen a game that linked to it's prequel so well even without stop n swoop. And all of the linking worlds with the train and clever puzzle designs was just brilliant. We will never see 3D platforming like that again. That why I cherish the N64 3D platformers :)

One theory about Stop N Swap was that the six Eggs would unlock six already discovered bonuses, which were: Jinjo in Multiplayer, Dragon Kazooie, the Breegull Bash move, the Devil Bottles mode, the Homing Eggs cheat, and the Jukebox. The Ice Key would've be used to access the place where this "exchange" was to take place. That seems to be the most likely theory anyone has come up with, and means that we missed absolutely nothing back in the day (well, except for Devil Bottles, but you already knew that from the video).

***** The one thing that always Bugged me so much about Stop 'N' Swap was; Why did we have to "hot" swap the cartridges at all? Why didn't they just utilize the N64's Controller Pak (Memory Card) to swap data between the two titles? This was a pretty common practice back then.
@ShadwSonic
@ShadwSonic 11 жыл бұрын
MarxForever That's a good point, and one I've never heard before! I'd assume that back in those days, either the N64 Memory card had not been developed yet, or maybe it was only capable of sending data to the game that it was received from.

If you ask me, they could've just used the Memory Pak for Stop n' Swop. They could have you save the Stop n' Swop item data onto the Memory Pak, and load that data from the Memory Pak onto Banjo-Tooie.

Just goes to show how disrespectful and competitive game companies are. Microsoft clearly knows by now that their Nuts and Bolts game was a massive failure due to it not being true to the original line if games and yet, instead of them acting civilised and perhaps ether hiring the old Rareware team to join Rare (Grant Kirkhope said he'd gladly make another game) or even giving the franchise back to Nintendo as they are clearly not getting anywhere with it, thus rendering the franchise useless to them OR perhaps even teaming up with Nintendo for just this once and making an epic Banjo Threeie, Microsoft decides to be greedy scumbags, clinging onto the now dead carcass of Banjo Kazooie, essentially telling the world "If we can't make this game popular, then no one else can have it". This is why I hate Microsoft as a Gaming Company.

Hey TheGameDirect girl whose name I dont know, lol, i am enjoying these videos, theyre pretty cool. I just wondered if you knew about one thing in the Xbox Live Arcade version of Banjo-Tooie a very minor thing, (at least that happened to me anyways) that when you listen to the aquatic themes while underwater, the sound will come out mono instead of stereo (if youre wearing any headphones). I wear headphones all the time while playing games and i heard the aquatic themes were mono sounding in my headphones whenever I was underwater in the game, probably due to when making the XBLA port, the game increased its run pace therefore messing up the pace of the aquatic theme quite a bit. At least youre able to listen to it in stereo sound when listening to the jukebox in Jolly Roger's Lagoon. :P

I just tested it out again, although it is technically playing in both ears, (if youre wearing headphones like i do), the music does play fine in one ear (in my case the left ear) and it's screwed up in the right ear. You'll need to make the camera pan down below the water surface to get the full effect of this i think as it did for me, and the music will play like that when you exit the water and until you enter a different area.

Awww, no mention of Brentilda Winkybunion, Gruntilda's nicer sister from Banjo Kazooie? Finding her in different areas of Spiral Mountain was one of my favorite parts of that game! Especially when she gave you personal information about Gruntilda to use later in Grunty's Furnace Fun. To this day, I still remember the playing the game with my younger brother and his friend watching, just roaming around inside Spiral Mountain and coming across Brentilda and her telling us that Grunty used to do a striptease in her younger days. And I remember it because my brother asked aloud, "What's a striptease?" and his friend replies, "You know, like 'wah'!" and made the motion of a woman ripping her top open. I laughed so hard at that, my face turned red and tears were streaming down my face! I was about ten at the time so of course stuff like that cracked me up. Great video by the way! I'm so looking forward to Part 2!

This is probably going to spund crazy to alot of people, but this is just my opinion, okay? I actually like Kazooie alot better than Tooie, just the music, the gameplay, Banjo Tooie just doesn't feel as happy, colorful, and exciting as Banjo Kazooie. Then again, I've never even played all of Banjo Tooie, so I don't know what the whole game is like... I'll have to play it someday, but what I've seen of it right now, I just don't like as much as the first game. Again this is just my opinion, and I can have this opinion if I want. Don't think I'm crazy, I'm sorry, but for now, I like Banjo Kazooie better than Banjo Tooie.

I'm just gonna say, Nuts N Bolts is not in anyway a good fallow up to Banjo Tooie. And maybe this is the part of me that absolutely loved Legos as a kid, and obviously a part of myself still does. But, I can't bring myself to hate it. It has it's flaws sure, a ton of'em. But there's a real novelty and charm there, and I can see a glimmer of that old Rare magic. Like Imagine if Viva Pinata had been developed as Banjo Farming? People would have hated what Rare had done to Banjo and Kazooie, and rightly so. But would it had been any less fun? That said, Nuts and Bolts really should have been made into a stand alone, brand new Franchise. An then Rare should have gone ahead and made a true Banjo "Threeie". I can say at least that much with a 100% certainty.
