To The Garage Engineer; Your doing a great job. Ignore any negative comments. Nothing ventured , nothing gained. The reason I never ever had a mortgage is because 40 years ago , told every one was going to build a boat. It took over a year to cut the proper wood in the forest and then I said if I do not build this boat , will be a bull sh...ter. So started and had to get advice a few times but after about 3 months it was completed. As the boat neared completion a old man across the street used to visit. He said," a man that can build a boat can build a house. A house is only a box". { it is a bit more complicated but his statement of encouragement worked]. About a month later it clicked one day in my brain and then started to plan a house. All went well. Got thru it. Made mistakes but someone showed me how to get around the biggest one. Now 40 years later have built 2 houses and 3 cabins [or cottages , some people call them]. One time did a automatic transmission but made some costly mistakes. However in the end the labour saved, payed for my mistakes and ended up with good experience. He who thinks he can , can do it. Also your videos give encouragement and knowledge to others. Also had my time doing motors but now prefer to buy new because they will most likely out last me. Currently I have a 90 honda, 9.9 honda, 2 hp honda, 6 Johnson and a 9.9 Johnson. All are in good running condition. Best of luck to you.

Gotta use 2 cycle engine oil that’s why it’s smoking

I have a 67 Evinrude 3hp that is white. Only difference is mine came with the folder lower unit. I use the TCWC 3 oil at 24/1. Works well and smokes less. I think your motor will function fine mounted where it is. These are great little motors but not very powerful for there displacement. Your call on the transom strength and height. I see you have the loop on yours for a safety rope which might be a good idea.

Great tips thanks. Im editing the video of it on the water now. I hope you watch it. I would like your opinion on if the speed is correct. Because, spoilers, a turtle would move faster than the boat did. I dont know if the motor is normally that slow Or if the cylinder is too worn to produce power. Because the motor sounded like it ran fine but there was very little proplusion. Plus the compression on the cylinders were lower when I tested it when I first got it.

The exhaust ports should be under the water and it is set at the right height when the trim tab on the motor is even with the bottom of the boat no need to raise the motor up.

I had a 1959 Elecrtolux 3.5hp where it had reverse! You just flipped the motor around 180 degrees!

Its fine where it is your only inch or so too low

I think you might need some carb adjustment or cleaning. Sometimes it takes a couple tries to get it right. It should idle down really slow if it has good compression.

Dude you need 2 stroke oil not motor oil

For a professional look instead of using duct tape for your steering grip, use a grip from a bicycle handlebar, but if that is too large, try a grip from a child sized tricycle.

Might try a company called Small Outboards .com. They sell a lot of refurbished antique motors and some parts for them.

I looked at some of the comments one person was correct get a lead substitute for the gas they were made to run on it not like engines today. Have fun bring some oars and life preserver and BEER. Enjoy.

0:29 "The motor asked for SAE 30". NO, IT DID NOT. I can't believe you made a video suggesting the use of 4 stroke oil in a 2 stroke motor. Two-Stroke oil is vegetable oil extract (Caster Bean) which does not dissolve into petrol. Four-Stroke oil dissolves into the petrol therefore you are running the engine without lubrication. No two-stroke engine has ever been recommended to run on four-stroke oil. I feel sorry for anyone who buys an engine from you because you wreck engines without realizing what you are doing.

Owners manual states you can use 30 wt motor oil. 24 to 1. Better oils did not come around till mid 60s. Better bearings too. 50 to 1 with TCW-3. 2 stroke water cooled 67 and up.
