Latvian here. You should've mentioned that Latvia and Lithuania is very similar by ethnicity as they are Baltic people (Balts) while Estonians are culturally & langauge wise closer to Finland.

@@desultore6993 All four countries are genetically similar through a haplogroup (I forgot which one 😗). But even ethnically Latvia has just as much connection to Estonia as it does with Lithuania, if not in fact more.
@carleryk
@carleryk 11 сағат бұрын
@@karkeviciusBut it's mostly one way - Latvians are genetically closer to Estonians than Estonians are to Latvians. Probably because Latvians assimilated Livonians who were a Finnic ethnic group. And also, the research varies depending on the 'test subjects' who were chosen to represent these countries. Southern Estonians have obviously greater chances of having Baltic ancestors than Northern Estonians. Research has been done in Tartu University in Southern Estonia which most probably means overrepresentation of Baltic genetics.

@@carleryk Hi, do you have the link to this study? I would be EXTREMELY surprised to find out that Tartu University did not account for regional discrepancies. Also while that’s probably true for Latvia, it’s probably true in the Finnic sense. Centuries of contact with Northern Europe and rule over probably have made the countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Finland genetically similar by the additions of the same invading genetics. Estonia and Latvia less so now because of historical events, but for both of their original ethnic populations, that’s still probably true.

Tallinn is the closest capital to both Helsinki and Stockholm. Estonia is a Finnic nation closest to Finland, while Latvia and Lithuania are actually Baltic nations. 'Baltic region' is a Soviet relic since it benefits mostly the Russian population that immigrated/colonized these countries from 1950s to 1990s . Most younger Estonians consider themselves Nordic not Baltic. The culture of these countries are pretty different from each other from Lutheran Estonia to Catholic Lithuania, with mix of both in Latvia. The assumption of being similar or close most probably comes from similar stance on Russia by politicians, but that is virtually only similarity. Traditions and customs are different, so is cuisine, especially Estonia's and Lithuania's. One-on-one relationships between regular people are not common especially between Estonians and the Balts, mostly because Estonian isn't even Indo-European language. Estonia's population is concentrated to it's northern part, like Finland's population is concentrated to it's Southern part. So both country's population is mirroring each other's. Similar mirroring doesn't occur with Latvia and Lithuania for some reason.

Bruh, Latvia and Estonia share essentially the same history for past 700 years. The only difference is Tallin's proximity yo Helsinki and Estonian language being very close to finnish. Do you really put Estonia as nordic only because of the language? If Estonia is Nordic, then Latvia is as well.
@funkee004

This guy wants to think that he sits in Ivory tower and he tries to find ways to differ Estonia from Baltics, but to be honest Estonia shares very similar culture, history, public opinion about many topics, political stance, ideology and so many other things to other 2 Baltic countries. Of course every time you mention Baltics you mention all three countries, because cmon, we have so much in common. Your idea that you mentioned a couple of times, that the main things that connects us is "Russian stance" or things that Russians implemented is complete bullshit, then your point about people not having one--on-one relationships because Estonian language has different language group is another bullshit, because most of recent history we talked between each other was is Russian or English. What type of mirroring of counties population are you talking about? So Latvia and Lithuania should "mirror" their neighbours cities close to each other? Cities are formed organically by having some kind of geographical advantage, not by trying to find your neighbours biggest city and trying to build near it (but those cases exist also). Even though I would agree Lithuania and Latvia is closer to each other than Estonia is to us, but dude, you use fake logic and your own made up reasons why you want to be nordic. You are the most nordic of us, I agree to that, but Estonians have much more common to Baltics than Scandinavia. Ärgake, Baltimaad! Atmostas Baltija! Bunda jau Baltija! LIETUVA! LATVIJA! EESTIMAA!

Something interesting about Riga latvia’s capital. If i’m correct, Latvia (excluding the micro countries) has the highest rate percentage of people living in the capital compared with the whole country. Almost 1/2 of Latvia’s population lives in Riga thats 50%. One of the lowest i believe are i think Amsterdam with 800,000 people living in the capital in a country with over 18 million people. And Berlin, a country of 82 million people and in the city live i think 2-3 million people. Still 2-3 million people is still really big on of the biggest cities in Europe.

Estonian here: the colours mean, respectively, the sky, the ground and the snow. Of course they also have more poetical and symbolical meaning like faith for freedom and education (blue), our dark past of being subjugated by many countries (black) and our want for education and spirituality (doesn't always mean Christianity, just spirituality), our white winters, light summer nights and the colour of birch bark (white). And it really portrays our country during the winter months, it really looks like that - if we get any snow thanks to the climate change...

Latvian here: The flag, or a similar one, was used 800 years ago, used when our ancestors fought with and against the crusaders invading them, a true mess. It became a symbol of peace-keeping. But all we really know is that it's a red flag with a white stripe. We don't know any details, let alone the historical meaning of the colors. It could be an Austrian flag, since the local ruler used to be a local ruler in Austria. Nobody knows for sure.

Let's talk about how it is correct,the Baltic Sea is L ä ä n e m e r i in Estonian, which means the Western Sea in English. So I live by the Western Sea. For Swedes and Finns the Western Sea is the Eastern Sea, in Finnish Itäinen meri. The Baltic States is an unofficial geopolitical term that is used today as a collective name for three independent countries: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. All three Baltic countries are located in Northern Europe on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea. Where the heck did the word baltic come from???

With three languages, merging is too strange to be considered by us. Unity of laws does have benefits, but that's what European Union is for. Unity of currency is solved by the Eurozone.
