This is NOTHING compared to where I live. Do you really call this a test? It's more like an activity. Come down to where I live, bet you couldn't beat it if you wanted to. Down in the Bikini Bottom, we only have one motorcycle teacher. Mrs. Puff, she's a tough kitten. It took me 5 years to get my motorcycle license. You have to jump and do 8 flips on your motorcycle, and you have to go fast enough to skip across the water. I had to go 657 miles per hour just to finish the test!

Practice the quick-stop a few times so you feel comfortable stopping really fast and aren't afraid of losing control of the bike. On the u-turn: look where you want to go, don't be afraid to give it some throttle if you feel like you're about to fall over, and (this one helps a lot) lean in the direction opposite from the side you're turning on. If you're on a smaller, more agile sport bike like I was, the cone weave is a breeze.

The test seems to vary widely state by state and country by country. I took my original motorcycle test in Alaska in 1976. The instructor sat at a desk inside a tiny building and told me to get on my bike and ride around the little building once. I did. I walked inside and he said I passed! I don't think he even looked up from the desk. In Minnesota (1984) it was completely different. Very difficult test. The lines on the figure 8 etc. were electronic and any touch would register as a failure. They had an electronic panic stop track where you had to reach 35 mph (electronic radar display in front of you) with a green light that would stay green until BANG it went RED. You had to absolutely dynamite your front brake (without lock up) to pass it. Lots of busted mirrors and turn signals had to be swept off the track because many flunked it badly. Many in line with me were on their 3rd or 4th attempt at passing the test. The ONLY way to pass was to crush your brakes and not dump the bike. The distance allowed for braking seemed like a postage stamp at that speed.

+Dave Lee I don't know how it is now. I took that test in Eagan. I wouldn't worry about it, but do practice lots of slow speed weaving and stops in a parking lot before you test. Brake in a strait line and plant both feet at the moment of stop. I passed on a 1000cc Kawasaki and others were there on Harleys, so it is passable with practice.

Here in Norway its very different when taking the motorcycle license. Here you can be 16 to ride a 125cc 15 kw bike. You have to complete multiple traffic courses and a theory test. Then you can take the driving course in the end. The difference is that you either drive with the teacher sitting on the back of the bike or him riding behind you. The riding course includes a part one: Tests in a area like this video with exercise cones. Then part two: You have to drive in traffic with your driving teacher either behind you or sitting on the back. If you complete that you have the a1 motorcycle license. The education system in Norway when it comes to driving licenses is very safe, and thats why so few accidents happen here also. But it's expensive:P

Get a task about a part on the motorcycle u have to check details to know if its good enough for driving and explain the consequenses etc. 2. Do a daily check of the bike, checking lights, signals, breaks etc as fast as u can. 3. Do driving test on a track which includes, Countersteering in 80 km/h, 80 km/h emergency breaking, cone driving, turn techniques and breaking while in a fast turn. 3. Driving test on the road, which is hard as fuck cause they fail you for details like possition, being too polite, driving too slow for long distances etc.

I know this video is old af but I just found it. Looks like the ALTmost test. The one differences between your state’s version and mine (Virginia) is that our cones are offset by 2 feet and yours are all in a straight line and your u-turn is left and ours is right. I think there are 20-something states that all use this basic test outline with minor differences (like the cone weave/u-turn) or in different order as their motorcycle license test once the rider has fulfilled learner’s permit requirements. Good video. Surprised they didn’t say anything about you recording it.

Here in Japan, it's way tougher than this. First, there are two classes of licenses - up to 400cc, and over 400cc. When you come over from the USA with a motorcycle endorsement on your license, they'll only give you the 400cc version in Japan. To get the 400 cc version, you must take a 15 hour riding class at a certified driving school, that'll set you back about US $1200. When you finish, you then must then take the test on a course which you are required to memorize, which includes stopping on a hill just before the peak, going over railroad tracks (standing), weaving between cones, making an L shaped turn or two in a one meter lane with concrete barriers on each side, speed braking, and the hardest part - "ipponbashi", or "one line bridge". This is a platform which is about 6-8 inches wide, a few inches off the ground, but about 20 feet long. From a stop about 4 or 5 feet before you get to it, you ride on this platform until the end. You are supposed to do it in over 10 seconds, and to do that you must bring your bike to a crawl on the platform. If you do it in 8 seconds, you can still pass but if you fall off, you automatically fail the test and must come back on another day. The speed breaking part - they have a radar detector, you must bring the bike up to 40 kph as you enter cones then come to a very quick stop before you hit a line. It's a bit tough with a big bike but I passed it. To get the over 400cc license (think Harley), you need an additional 12 hours and $1200. All in all, it was worth it - makes you a better rider.

it does make you consider the ability of someone delivering a test when they apppear to be so stuck on having to read the script without being able to deliver it confidently and informatively. Also all of those lines and boxes on the site make it quite confusing for those taking the test. Surely a more professional location could be arranged. Whilst the test is not difficult, it would be nice if they gave the applicants the best chance of succeeding by improving their testing processes.

If the person can't figure out the track how will they figure out the road sighs and Lines on the road. In short terms . if you can't read the track you should ride on the rode

How nice would it be if the instructor was on a bike and could demonstrate the task instead of all this blah blah blah. when I took my test like this in Ohio in 93 it was harder to get the appointment Than it was to complete the test. I swear they acted like it was their Job to keep you from getting a bike license.

Gawd. You go to the DMV and they practically give you a drivers license. But if you want to ride a motorcycle, they put you through this shit. It's an easy course, especially with a smaller bike. But it's a pain in the ass.
@malaquiasalfaro818 жыл бұрын
think a Honda Rebel is easy to do this on?
@GuMpAkC8 жыл бұрын
***** Oh god dude, my first 'real' street bike was a Honda Rebel. It was easier to ride than a 24 speed Jamis I had. If I had to take the test again, I'd borrow a Honda Rebel. It's a very relaxed bike, nimble and light. It's the equivalent of taking a Nissan Stanza to a drivers course.

So don't hate please. Just want to know when taking the motorcycle class to get your license do you ride like mopeds or small motorcycles? All the classes I've seen have been on mopeds.
@SportSoulLife8 жыл бұрын
In finland atleast we ride the class we are getting immediately. So moped riders ride mopeds, light bikes ride light bikes and so on. I started off with a 35kw (48hp) immediately.
@TheGodDamnPope8 жыл бұрын
Here in Michigan (US) we don't have classes, and I believe that is the case in all other US states as well. Passing the test on a 250 like I did means you can legally ride a Hayabusa, not that I would recommend it!
@SaintsPurgatory8 жыл бұрын
You can find an MSF course usually in most states in the US. There are also classes in some Community Colleges and also, look for clubs in the area you live. Where I live there are clubs who have members that will volunteer to help you learn to ride and some of them are minimal cost and some free. They teach you the same as any MSF courses and prepare you for your DMV tests.

Cause I want to start riding asap Wether it's this year or the start of spring of 2017 when I'll have the full amount for a bike and was wondering if I should go do the course first before I get the bike and start riding or if I should ride a little before the test and all that.

@xCRO3x8 жыл бұрын
You do not need riding experience for the MSF. They do infact teach people with zero MC riding experience.
@jayyyceee84038 жыл бұрын
CBolton313 They didn't teach me slow, for me since I'm under 21 (California law) I need to take a certified course so I took one named AMO, With me I needed 6 hours of class time and 10 hours of riding time so after like 1 session and a half I started to ride the bike and after I successfully completed the class they gave me a waiver so I don't have to take the drivers part of the DMV test
@Icy_Hot_986 жыл бұрын
Jayyy Ceee do they still do that?
@briand.16943 жыл бұрын
WOW! That really simulates "real-world" riding! That test should involve MORE riding. He spent far more time listening to instructions than actual riding.
@terrymcgeown99489 жыл бұрын
Here in Tasmania we sit in a class for about 3 hrs and get told about rider safety. Then ride around the obstacle course. If we pass that then we get our L plate and are on our own on the roads until we sit four our P plate which is basically riding a tighter course, which in my opinion is quite daft really. If you survive 6 months on the road on L plates and slowing down the traffic as you aren't allowed to go over 100 kph or ride a bike over 240cc, then you should be given the P plate automatically.
