TLDR Omens of Destruction is less than Thrones of Decay but still leagues better than Shadows of Change. It's a good title with some minor issues as explained in the video above. CA need to explain why these DLC's are taking so long as this doesn't feel as BIG as Thrones was. @@Zettern96 Pretty sure CA did a massive dip on their pre-current plans to make this content instead. This is not something that would take a small experienced team 8 months to make, but rather something that appears to have been rushed out half-way due to poor reception of alleged Cathay DLC. I think the next DLC will come a lot faster and most likely be the content that they worked on prior to diverging to the content of this DLC, unless people uproar again demanding 'Dogs of War' more than anything. This is purely speculation, but as a modder, I don't see content here worth 8 months of work, as a team of 10 people or so could easily have pushed this within a week or a month tops. Still, the stuff shown seems good, nothing to fault there.

I might be regretting these words in a few days, but right now based on what you've said in this video, *I actually prefer what CA have done with camp movement to your suggestion.* IMO, it doesn’t make sense at all for camps to move like Black Arks on land, like you wanted. That sounds absurd to me. Black Arks are supposed to be floating fortresses. Moving is kinda their thing. On the other hand, nothing in the lore indicates that ogre buildings are known for having wheels. Packing up campsites is the obvious way for them to move.
@xavmand161517 күн бұрын
I agree, it would also make them very difficult to use in Golg's campaign. If I teleport and want my camp, Id have had to walk it across the map but now I can disband it and pop it back where I want to settle

I think people want the slow movement as it represents the Ogres migrating, plus it keeps them functional as they move. Start camp>pack up and move>unpack camp>end turn>start camp>pack up and move etc. The change they've made feels more like you're making the camp useless for a few turns while it teleports to where you want it. Plus it lacks tactical depth, like moving your camps to be able to guard multiple points (Such as in the Mountains of Mourn).

With Realms of Chaos dead, they should put the actual Realms of Chaos INTO Immortal Empires and move the four starting monogod demons to their realms. The Chaos Wastes in the north are getting WAY too crowded and it's a waste for all of the realms of chaos to be just gone. I understand he’s a warhammer fan and wants to see more content but with all the upheaval at CA over the last year it’s no surprise things are taking longer. Especially if they want to avoid the Shadow of Change debacle. And with the rise of DLC Price I’d rather they take longer and make the content worth it than rush it out.

Shadows of change was fine. It was the price that people didn't like. If it was $15 then we would have avoided all of this and we would have had a lot more dlcs by now. The problem is that these dlcs are taking way too long. They need to drop the 3rd race from these dlcs

Im gonna be honest the only thing i truly disagree with is the idea of needing a full narrative. That sounds so arbitrary. Like how is Elspeth "defending the empire" that unique. Karl Franz has the same narrative. I'd argue Golg and his mercenary contracts is far more unique narrative then "oh an Empire character wants to defend the empire."
@changer_of_ways_99916 күн бұрын
I think the only "narrative" is to have the Crises reworked and more flavorful. Right now it's just spammed armies and is kind of just terrible. And on top of that, there's the glaring omission of Chaos crisis.

@@changer_of_ways_999 Yeah lol. What are they thinking not fixing the end game? Give us a reason to make it to the end. The system needs a rework and I've seen people talk about Stellaris endgames crises. CA could take inspiration from that maybe.

Yeah, that was one part of the review that I strongly disagreed with. The total war games are sandbox games after all. The "narrative" is also very superficial if it is there like you said.
@vargknight13 күн бұрын
In regards to Golgfag specifically I think it could have done with some kind of narrative to be honest. Have you actually played him yourself yet? I have and got bored very quickly. As you are kind of incentivized to not bother taking settlements and just do contracts that's how I played it. There are two big problems, first, you get so much gold and meat so quickly it's actually kind of ridiculous, it very quickly becomes no challenge as you can build up a fully levelled camp extremely fast and have an army of fully mid to high tier units by like turn 15, which means none of the AI armies stand a chance as they are generally tier 1 trash still. The other problem is related to how the contracts work, because you only ever get them from factions nearby you don't really end up moving out of one area of the map, I got to turn 30 and hadn't got much further from the starting position than Reikland. Now of course you could say just walk somewhere else then, which sure, you can do that but I don't particularly want to have to essentially take a break from playing the game for several turns regularly to spend time just walking across the map to go to another area to do the exact same thing over again. The first problem is something i'm sure they will fix, as it's just a balance thing. The second I don't know if they will, but it could be fixed by having some kind of narrative, even just something like the Changeling has where there's different quest battles in different areas of the map and make them so you can't actually teleport and have to physically go to them. I know then you still have the issue of spending turns walking across the map, but it at least would give you a reason to do so

Are you really substracting 0.5 because Ogre camps don't move like black arcs on land but instead disband and are built elsewhere? I actually think this whay is better, when you move your army your camp is disbanded and then built in the new location, that's how camps work. Also Skarr Bloodwrath as a Lord is a preferrence thing, no race in ToD got 3 lords, in fact Arbaal's mechanics are better than Epidimius'. And ToD had reskins like grudgebreaker thunderers, and remodels like nuln ironsides and hochland long rifles.

But CA are who they are and frankly I'm just happy that they seem to be acknowledging the problems and working on them. The CA that released WH3 would have been too busy praising their own work and referring to obvious problems as intentional design choices. Are we getting milked just a little bit? Of couse we are. I still dont think every lord needs a capital "M" mechanic. Guys like Wurzag and Grimgore just having a focus on their respective units is fine to me. Grimgore in particular doesn't feel like he needs anything really. Skarsnik I could agree with simply because I think the Eight Peaks stuff could use an overhaul. Make it similar to the Sword of Khaine maybe. In that it gives whomever holds the area a significant global buff but also a kind of debuff. Mainly, have it cause animosity with the other factions vying to own it. Basically, make it a king of the hill where the three groups keep going after the one that owns the location until only one is left. Outside of that, I think Skarsnik is mostly okay though. There are some lords I'd like to see get something interesting. The original 2 dragon children could use a small mechanic. Give Miao Ying some kind of interesting mechanics for the bastion. I think Zhao Ming could use something to make him interesting. Maybe some unique caravan upgrades and alchemical stuff. All that said, I am cool with some characters mechanics simply being they are good with certain units and have some stong faction buffs. Not everybody needs a new upgrade panel and bespoke currency to spend or something.

While I think Thrones was great overall, it wasn't fantastic because of that. Things like voice acting are a very important part of the production value and why people are willing to pay for DLCs instead of just getting a mod. Adding a Thunderbarge or Plague Ogres to the game with no unique voicelines is pretty sloppy and ultimately why I personally would rate OoD over ToD.

One thing I've been thinking about is how, for me, it's hard to tell sometimes whether Arbaal or Skulltaker is the FLC lord. On a positive note, it feels good to see that an FLC lord is getting enough work to not feel markedly worse off than a dlc lord in terms of effort. The downside perhaps being that, a lord you need to pay for should maybe feel like it has more going for it than an FLC. I don't feel like Epidemius was under-served by ToD, but it is clear that Tammy is the paid for content because there are a bunch of unique characters, specialized units, AND abilities that you can only get by playing him. I haven't seen enough maybe of Skulltakers mechanic to judge for sure, but from what I've seen it doesn't really compare proportionately (although I appreciate it's not easy to balance such things between dlcs and wildly different characters). All that being said, I often choose to play Kugath over either of them anyways. His start position's early resources for infections make plague and recruitment buildings easier to setup, the extra blessed symptoms are a potent tool, and his new unique skill-line helps to scale very quickly imo. And that's why I also feel a bit sad that Skarbrand didn't get a little extra love.

I think with Thrones of Decay they had the perfect opportunity to give us a strong narrative simply because of the characters they chose for it. Tahmurkahn and Elspeth are specifically tied to the Tahmurkahn story and Malakai's campaign comes straight out of the Gotrek and Felix novels. I think they really just had more material to work with. With this DLC I think they went more thematic (the theme of chaotic and destructive characters). These characters are known for their own victories and deeds throughout the Warhammer world, so trying to tie them together more would probably feel a bit forced.

I noticed that apart from your channel, a lot of content creators have overlooked Wurrzag's new hidden campaign mechanic where he can go around the world building the new unique building Monument of Mork and Gork. You can build 10 of these all up which give stacking -5% cooldown reduction faction wide for Big and Little Waaagh spells. This adds up to -50% cooldown reduction faction wide. Then Wurrzag gives another -10% reduction faction wide bringing total cooldown reduction to -60%. Each caster can get another -20% cooldown reduction by putting full talent points into the skill tree for the spell, eg. Foot of Gork. That's -80% cooldown reduction all up. This makes Wurrzag's faction a powerhouse casting faction. Bonus tip: His Savage Orcs can now get a scrap upgrade that nullifies magic attacks and reduces spell resistance by 20%.

There are mods that introduce characters and mechanics in this DLC that are better implemented and its just sad at this point considering how long they are taking to give us these DLCS...

IMO that camps does not "move" actually allows for interesting strategic approach - you can potentially act really offensively. If the camp is in danger because your armies are far away you can just pack it up and place wherever you want near your actual army. Personally I like to get best quality units as fast as I want so bringing my highly upgraded camp with me whenever my army is going will potentially be very useful. Then when this army is upgraded it can follow another army or at this point I would just place it in safe place and spam armies from there.

I wouldn't say it's hard-core to wish there is some sort of challenge. You can basically cheese every fight with tomes. Also if you have played thrones of decay then shadows of change is absolutely a letdown. Compared to the changes that nurgle, dwarves, and empire recieved that DLC was a big letdown for half the price of the game. We got a LL and 2 units per faction with uninteresting faction mechanics. IMO Cathay was the coolest part of that DLC. Which the LL they got just got a better version of the compass while the other LLs for Cathay got nothing

As with it seems majority of others, have to disagree about moving camps. I think the way it is works just fine, but should be less of a cooldown after packing one up until you can re-deploy it. Black arks work because they can only go on the water, if you had the same mechanic on land it would be super stupidly OP. Golgfag kind of is anyway because of how fast you can get gold and meat, but yeah, that would just make it silly if camps could move all over the place whenever they want

For Skullreaper and especially Wrathmongers, you didn't seem to take into account the entity numbers when saying they're supposed to be stronger than Chosen. As units Wrathmongers might be comparable to Chosen in melee brawl performance, but it's a comparison between a unit of 32 Wrathmongers vs 80 chosen. Each wrathmonger entity is much stronger than each Chosen entity. I think that's a good compromise on balancing game design and lore. From what I can tell from the stats, they've made considerable effort to distinguish their purpose from existing units (as much as they can within the context of Khorne anyway). E.g. Wrathmongers isn't just a stronger chosen, it's a smaller and much faster unit.

A lot of if I made the game I would of done this and I would have done this. I know Grudges isn't tearing this down but it really feels rough. I haven't lost faith outside of the AI needing to get smarter compared to that of previous titles. The DLC is only a day out and I have been jonsing for it since I saw the teases about it back a couple months ago. I think the dwarfs, as classic allies of the empire, did tie in decently well with the narrative of Tammy vs Ellie. But thats maybe splitting hairs. I do agree though that, besides the theme of these 3 factions as being chaotic and destructive, there isn't really much to tie any of them together. I think if the next DLC is Dechala vs High elves with either another Cathay lord or perhaps a dark elf then that could work narratively. Maybe a Bretonnian lord or other order faction could make sense instead of dark elves? Idk

Honestly DLC takes too long regardless of how you think of it...The quality for Omens looks good but plenty of companies can dish out that level of quality DLC in far less than 8 months and what you get...is not that impressive all things considered. There are a ton of characters to still be added, a ton of factions that still need a desperate overhaul and some have not been properly touched since WH 2 to WH 1 like Brettonia and Vampire Coast/Counts. We should be getting DLC of this level every 3-4 months easy. A DLC that takes this long and if it's not the factions you like just makes you lose interest in the game or whatever CA has to offer. Great video.

Rather than a narrative it seems that the theme they went for was the more nomadic factions that don't necessarily keep to one place. There isn't an agenda because the 3 lords (other than gorbad arguably) don't have goals other than going around fighting for the hell of it.

one thing i think people are not considering is that while TOD had dwarfs get the big race rework and empire get the big LL overhaul ogres in OOD got both of those which is in my eyes why it feels lacking instead of two races getting lots of love one got the massive lionshare of the love and don't take me wrong ogres needed it but i think that is why TOD felt more substantial
@ethanestevez38217 күн бұрын
My guess for why it took 8 months is that the legend leak was true, maybe not started but that was their plan. When the leak came out, they shifted to OoD after seeing the public reaction. This can explain why when they first showed off stuff it was the most reskin units and took the 8 months figuring out how to make the dlc from scratch
@conradvonhotzendorf165216 күн бұрын
I agree. After Tod they said they were deep into the next dlc. Then the leak happend, and suddenly they had absolutly nothing to show for us. Gorbad didn't even have concept art or anything. Then it took 8 months to finish. That's not what I would call deep. Something happened.

The original 6.0 and DLC plan on the roadmap hinted at Slaanesh. For some reason they seemed to pivot to Khorne instead, and that combined with all the layoffs, restructuring and CA Sofia getting involved has probably led to the lengthy gap between DLC. Thrones was obviously delayed due to the whole Shadows fiasco. I really hope it's not the norm but guess we will see how long the next pack takes. Hopefully they are back on track and can deliver them a bit faster. I don't think the lords necessarily need to have a theme or story to tie them together though it makes sense for at least 1 popular faction to be the highlight to bring players back. At this point we have a lot of races who need reworks/content, I'd much prefer they prioritize who needs love first before thematic relevance. Bretonnia, Kislev, Norsca, Vampire Counts etc... I'm fully expecting the next pack to be Slaanesh, Cathay and either Norsca of High Elves. The lack of meaningful map changes this patch is pretty disappointing, was certain Arbaal would pave the way to Ind/Khuresh being open. Especially as Realms is no longer getting any new content I just assumed they'd put more effort into IE's map. Hopefully the next DLC has a more significant expansion as the map is getting pretty clogged up and there is so much wasted space with the north-east chaos wastes and Ind/Khuresh not being accessible. rating the ogres dlc based on the camp changes that are not part of the dlc seems counter intuitive to me. i understand rating something higher if the actual game you can play with it is better, but it isn't really a part of the value of the DLC unless you don't own the base Ogre kingdoms DLC. in my eyes, among the 3 up there, the units added for the Ogres have the least problems and Golg has the most unique campaign out of the 3 and in general is extremely unique among all the factions in warhammer 3 with how his diplomacy works. I would've liked to have moving camps as well, but I don't really think that should bring Golg down. Greenskins has some issues with unit variants on the Black Orcs and the Arachnarok, and Khorne has issues IMO, the Bloodbeasts and Skullreapers don't have a lot of Utility compared to Khorne Minotaurs and Chaos Warriors. For the Ogres, I feel like all of the units besides Golgs maneaters have good utility. They feel more or less like a Maneater unit variant with dual weapons. Yhetees are fairly similar to something like Gorgers, but Magic attacks is less available on Ogres than it is for say Khorne with the Bloodletters filling that role the Skullreapers could have filled, and the contact slow and aura slow working together is really significant and helps you really beat down on a unit that might be able to get away otherwise. Don't get me wrong, *I'm* going to buy all 3. I think they are all good. I just feel like your scores are very samey for weird reasons, and that is unhelpful for a review. I think the Ogre part of the DLC is at least as good as ToD Nurgle.

honestly, disagree on the khorne part. skulltakers faction mechanics are really simple and boring, skullreapers and wrathmongers are both units that are not worth the money and are really redundant in the roster, the slaughterbrute is one of the worst monsters in the game right now and even the bloodbeasts don't seem to be all that good. only the khornegors and the bloodpriest are really good aditions. and 9 € for that? no, hard pass. and that is coming from someone who likes khorne more than any other faction. I also don't think that the khorne update was all that good. yes, make the strongest race in the game even stronger. genious
