This particular performance is unmatched. There are no big stage props or fancy lasers or light show, just badass music for the ages. Thank God for Thin Lizzy!

Particularly when you consider the off stage distractions the boys are as tight knit as ever. Phil was indeed the man, effortlessly cool, charming and cunning all rolled into one... sadly missed 💔

@docsbassist your comment sounds clever but it's not when you examine it. Listen you cheeky upstart I was into Thin Lizzy when you were in fricking playgroup, and by the time Sykes joined it was game over. I don't need to engage with your puerile behaviour any more.....

My wife and I went to see Thin Lizzy play this for Sight and Sound in Concert for the BBC. Somewhere like Hitchin believe it or not. We went into a local before the gig and in the next 'cubicle' in the pub was Phil and the boys having a few before going on stage. Said hello. They did their half hour show and then said "Roight, let's turn this up a bit" (which was a lot!). After the end of the recording they played for another hour to just those of us there and basically a Greatest hits set. Blown away! Meanwhile I went to see the reincarnated Lizzy at the Irish festival in Finsbury Park a couple of years ago and they were excellent also - even with the new lead singer.

Agree with Paul. Hitchin Regal was the venue, was one of the best gigs I've been to. Can be sent at 15.34 jumping to the start of Boys Are Back In Town. At the end of the night Phil threw his leather glove into the crowd and yes yours truly still has it to this day. Thanks for a great night guys.

Thin Lizzy is the finest rock and roll band that ever was in my opinion. As a myself, the techniques and style Of Brian Downey made them unique innovative, that their early hits Jailbreak,Boys are back in town, I admit were great I chose to buy and listen to their entire album instead of the singles, and tell you their best material never got air time. Famous for twin lead guitar solos the "Wild One"solo is me an all great.

Credit should have ben there, for all those years performing.

+Mark Ali-gilkes, that would be great, but Thin Lizzy broke up in 1983. Live Aid was 1985. The band went separate ways at that time. Gary Moore went solo, and John Sykes joined White Snake with David Coverdale.

A friend said "You must see this band !" So we went to the Marquee Club, when it was still in Wardour St to see Thin Lizzy. I was very impressed, round about 1973 I think, no later than 74 though, they were terrific. Struth I had some times in there ! Especially on Sunday jam sessions !! Luckily the drummer upstairs from me knew someone who left my name at the office, so I went for free ! Thankyou Harry Hughes of Mahatma Kane Jeeves, a sensational band with a teriffic singer :)

I was there on the night with my mate Dan. Before the concert started the band played a few songs then they sat on the amps before the cameras were switched on and they resumed playing. It was really hot in there and we were packed in like sardines. I have studied the footage every now and then to spot myself but the cameras don't focus on the audience enough unfortunately. A great night, we were all of 3 metres from the band. Living your best life as they say today!

Thank you for uploading this. I can't put into words what it actually means to me. I first saw Lizzy as a three piece with Eric Bell in 1973. ….Then they went to Croydon! ...The Fox and Greyhound to be exact. This was a small venue which could cram in maybe 500 people or so and the stage was in the right hand corner. One Sunday night in '74 the 'new' Thin Lizzy with brian Robertson and Scott Gorham were playing the 'Greyhound'. Myself and 3 mates had to go see if they were any better (or different) to the Thin Lizzy we already knew. My GOD were they different, and better and LOUDER! The second gig at the Greyound in '74 was just after 'Nightlife' had been released. I cannot stress enough just how loud they really were. I've seen Deep Purple, The Who, Led Zep, loads of other bands but nothing matched the volume of Lizzy in those '70s days. It was actaully scary when a guitar solo came up,....it was terrifyingly painful not just in your ears and head but your whole body rattled with the soundwaves hitting it. But, then again I have to admit there were maybe 300 people there and we were at the front.....Less than 3 feet from the band..... Crazy volume but it was worth being deaf for a few days afterwards. Went out the day after and bought 'Nightlife', & couldn't wait to play it. But while the music was good there was no power or oomph on the record it sounded terribly lame. And this I found the same with pretty much all of their studio albums. It's a crying shame but they never ever captured the raw power of Lizzy live with the great harmonised guitar-lines of Gorham and Robertson. John Sykes was the perfect addition in my mind and I just wish it could have gone on longer, but it just didn't.. I went to the last 'Gala' gig at Hammersmith Odeon where I remember Gary Moore Punched a roadie who was onstage trying to put a new string on while he was playing. I still can't believe their last gig in the UK was at a sodden Reading Fesival. I know I've left a lot out in the middle but I could almost write a book about Thin Lizzy. I'd better stop now because I really 'feel' this deep and it hurts, but it would be great to hear from anyone who went to any of those gigs at the Greyound in Croydon.

Yes, I was at the Thin Lizzy Greyhound gigs. Small venue, so even towards the back you were up close. The volume was so intense and penetrating. After the gig it was almost surprising to find that Croydon hadn’t been reduced to rubble.

Why on Earth did BBC Four not broadcast it in stereo? This concert is also an extra on the Live And Dangerous DVD, where this concert was also in mono only. Someone on KZbin has a VHS copy synced to the BBC Radio stereo simulcast. The only problem is that the FM signal wasn't it's best. You can clearly hear it was stereo though. I have the Flock Of Seagulls (BBC Sight And Sound - In Concert) which was also 1983 I believe. BBC Four repeated that in stereo around 10 years ago.

I saw them in Lund at Olympen, in 1981. That's in Southern Sweden or Eastern Denmark. Anyway, Snowy White had a Gibson Gold Top and they were incredibly tight, the audience jumping and dancing from the first riff to the last encore. What an incredible performer he was.. if he just had stayed calm for a few years.. We miss you Phil!!
