This was interesting for me. Being from the U.S. with the bulk of my collection being pistols and rifles, I’ve not herd of many of these shotguns. I don’t believe I have a single English made shotgun. Perhaps I’ll add one in the future. Thanks for the video.

Happily surprised you had a flues in the bag! I have one as well (1917 I think) and shoot low pressure shells through it. To the best of my knowledge around that time period in the U.S. smokeless powder had just become common place. However in the next couple of years higher pressure shells were developed which began a trend to beefier shotguns (such as the Ithaca made nitro special) UK shotgun culture is so different from USA. Most expensive guns you see are perazzis and maybe only one or two people in my club shoot one. Most people settle on a citori or silver pidgeon and never go for anything else. For hunting semi autos are king here though nothing in comparison to the cosmi. That cosmi is something else.

I enjoy your videos and check your channel rather frequently. I'm an American living permanently in Japan and while hunting is my main shooting endeavor, I enjoy shooting trap and skeet as well. (the only two varieties of clay shooting available in Japan). I have a very old Miroku OT skeet gun and a similarly old Breda Sirio trap gun and love both of them! So I'm curious... you often talk about a particular gun being "very English" or "not English". What are the key factors determining how "English" any given gun may be?
@goory932 жыл бұрын
My first shotgun (which I still own) was a 120 Ranger youth 20 gauge. I'm hoping to teach my daughter how to shoot with it someday.
@wholeNwon2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting us rummage through your collection. Is it time yet to delve into the world of smaller gauges? And then you should have at least one 10...perhaps a "light", short chambered example. Oh and maybe a BP 8 ga. double. IMHO, your Woodward and Grant were really good moves. Here in the US, a lot of people would salivate over the Ithaca. So you can only imagine how they (we) would react to guns you might consign to the trash bin. In the early part of the last century, even many obscure British makers turned out some really excellent guns. Lucky!

I'm pretty sure they're outsourced to Rizzini, or have a deal with Rizzini to use the same equipment and schematics. Even the wood is oddly beautiful for the price. They're on the shell for under $900. I would LOVE to know what you think of how they feel to fire. I'm gong to purchase one until I go to Lombardia to get a custom Rizzini. That's on my bucket list. I've shot a 686 SP1 Sporting w/30" bbls for the last 5 years (Sporting Clays only) and am in the market for a new gun. My gun fever is driven by the desire for 32" bbls and a preference for a palm swell - otherwise my current gun is a reasonable fit that I like very much; it is slightly whippy. I'm down to a 287 SPIII Sporting (a current dealer option with upgraded wood, palm swell & adjustable trigger) or a 694 Sporting. Cost between the two is fairly negligible. I'm 6'-3", 220lb guy that is, and will remain, just a weekend shooter with (very) modest shooting skills. Would appreciate feedback from your reviews of both guns concerning handling and benefits. My top priorities are reliability, handling & longevity - although I'll always strive to improve, I have no designs on becoming a 'good' shooter. Everyone I've reached out to has a bias based on incentive to sell a given model, so I'm reaching out for a learned opinion. I'll find a 694 Sporting to give it a heft/swing, but it'll be difficult to find a 687 Sporting that has the wood package/trigger that the particular gun dealer has put together. Thanks for the response and my apologies for the many words to pose a simple question. Always enjoy TGS Outdoors
