Been taking 22 years with no noticeable side effects. My hair thinning didn't advance in that time. I usually skip a dose one or two days a week with no reduction in effectiveness.

Maybe I should try that 1 mg a week? (do you take 1 pill a week or the .25 mg 4xweek or does it matter?). You say that dose for you is efficacious as well as no sides? I started with the recommended 1 mg MWF but has terrible sides (e.g, poor erections, reduced ejaculatory fluid, muscle soreness, brain fog). I cut that down to .5 mg MWF & still had sides. My hair loss, which was relatively minor, stabilized & I even grew all the hair the back on the vertex! But man, I'm paying a price on sides.

This is a video that has been very helpful, although 1mg a day does not cause me side effects and has been effective, the treatment is somewhat expensive in my country, economically looking for the optimal minimum dose seems good to me.

Hi! Thanks for the explanation why 3mg/week is enough. What about taking less than this in the long run? There are studies that show that 1.4 mg/week (0.2 mg/day) lead to nearly as great results as 7 mg/week (or 3 mg/week). Moreover, if Finesteride gets built up in the hair follicles, can I reduce it further after having taken it for a while (let’s say for a year)?

Look.. I’m guessing you’re the 99% that doesn’t have side effects. In that case you want a 1mg per day for the best efficiency. Finasteride has an 8 hour half life which means after 24h you have 0,125mg in your blood which is still enough too fully inhibit 5AR type2 all the time therefore your DHT should be stable be reduced by 70% all the time. This is for a reason.

@@255mauro No, actually, they've done studies on that and concluded that 5 mg offers no benefits over 1 mg. That's why 1 mg a day is the recommended dosage when treating male pattern baldness. The only way to "step up" from that is to take Dutasteride, but its side effect profile is significantly worse.

Sorry for my question but I live where they don't use finasteride to treat hair loss so I can only try it myself. if you have information, can you please write is there a difference in the chemical composition of propecia and 5 mg finasteride tablets for the treatment of the prostate gland? It’s just that in my city Propecia will cost $120 for 28 tablets of 1 mg (huge extra charge for shipping from another country). Finasteride tablets will cost $4 for 30 tablets of 5 mg. It's a little expensive for me to spend $120 I was thinking of just splitting the 5mg tablet into four pieces.

I've been taking 1mg a day for about 10 months now, combined with topical Minoxidil every day. I haven't really seen any regrowth. But I don't think I'm losing any more. I seem to be maintaining. Unfortunately, I am one of the unlucky few (I guess) that has side effects. (A reduced, but not gone libido and a reduced volume) About a week ago I switched to every other day. We'll see how this goes.

From my calculations based on 8 hour half life finasteride has: after 45,15h when the does drops below 0,05mg you lose protection against 5AR in the last ~3h so this is not (totally) ideal. But even bigger problems with cutting pills is that you are potentially harming their efficacy with exposure to humidity and radiation and also storing temperature (this last thing also applies to non cut finasteride also). If I were you I would try to get normally shaped 5mg pills or Propecia. If you continue the 5mg cutting pills route, take great care (have a pill cutter, capsules, storing conditioner and keep everything clean- definitely don’t want pregnant women or child coming in contact with this stuff etc.). It would also be a good idea to periodically test DHT serum content and compare it to when taking Propecia. You are potentially getting not the best quality finasteride that won’t lower your DHT sufficiently - this unfortunately does happen, so monitor your DHT and have a system/plan
