I'm into my early 60's and do what you do. Lifting toilets was doable (no pun intended), but why struggle with the weight and mess? So I invested in a pneumatic toilet lifer with wheels (under $300). While it's up, you can clean wax remnants, old caulking, and move it anywhere in or out of the room with ease. All while saving your spine. It is a God send. Highly recommended. Putting it back over the bolts is mucho easy to: you just slowly lower it down as needed. I love the "Better Than Wax" as well. The next guy changing out the toilet will tank me. Get it?

We are remodeling after a hurricane flood last November and had the same problem with the water lines and new vanity last week. We had the plumber move the water lines over about 6 inches so we didn't have to cute apart the new vanity. Took an extra day for the plumber and scheduling but it turned out well.

Very informative video. I'm a retired Marine living in a 60 year old home that has a 5x7' bathroom exactly like the one you renovated. The only difference is Want to replace the tub as well. Bathroom contractors in my area (Western PA) quoted 5 times the cost of your reno despite the fact I said no bells and whistles, just functional. Never considered hiring a handyman before but am certainly considering it now as it may be more cost effective for me. How does one go about finding a competent, reliable and affordable handyman in the Allegheny County area of PA? Thanks and Semper Fi Ken

@stockbulll Жыл бұрын
@nicksinclair2407 he didn't use mortar. If the subfloor is solid you. An get away without mortaring the backerboard. He went over the top of the existing vinyl, plywood and subfloor. So that floor should be pretty solid after it's all screwed down. In situations like that I have used construction adhesive under the backerboard for some extra grab but it's not always necessary. I would bet his goal was to keep the carpet and tile levels even as well as save time which is probably why he didn't pull the old flooring. If the vinyl was in bad shape and the floor was flexing when he walked on it, I'm sure he would have pulled the floor and redone it before installing the cement board.

I really enjoy your videos but I must point out a few things about this one. I did not see you clean the bottom of the toilet bowl where the old wax ring was in contact with it. Even though in the first video it looked like the wax left on the flange was complete, I always make sure to at least wipe the contact area to insure a smooth surface for the new wax ring to seal against. It also looked like you did not remove all of the old silicone from the bottom edge of the toilet bowl. I try to remove 99.9% of the old silicone because even "mold resistant" silicone will start to grow mold after several years so leaving the old silicone in place and refilling with new could accelerate the growth of mold on the new silicone. It also makes it harder to make a smooth bead of new silicone. You also did not seem to shim the toilet. Even though you seemed to level the tile very nicely, it is unlikely the bottom of the toilet bowl was perfectly flat when it left the manuf. In 20 years I have only set a handful of toilets that did not need any shimming.
