In 1983 Al Tomko had run All-Star into the ground and didn't have the stick to keep Stu out of British Columbia so Stu got Stampede Wrestling on BC TV, partnered with Brian Adams's manager, and ran some of his biggest shows of all time in British Columbia. 7000 people paid gate for Bruce Hart vs. Tiger Williams at the PNE arena. 9000+ for a supershow with Dyno, News, Andre, Dr. D, etc. They were cleaning up in Vancouver, Victoria, and Nanaimo right up until the WWF told Stu "you can either let us buy you out or we'll just come in and take the territory within a years time". Stu was conflicted cuz adding BC to his loop had been a huge success but ultimately he saw the writing on the wall and as one of only four territories that were offered buyouts from the WWF he decided he'd better take it instead of getting bulldozed out later for nothing. Then Vince swerved Stu anyway and didn't make his first $100,000 yearly payment knowing Stu couldn't sue as he did the deal on a handshake. Vince has been screwing Harts for years.
