Brown soda bread is the most common. Depending on how coarse the brown flour is, you can mix in white flour to taste to lighten it. Soda, salt, buttermilk and get it in the oven quick, no kneading, so the gas from the soda isn’t wasted. Cool in a tea towel to make a nice chewy crust that doesn’t break your teeth.
@MC-in8mc2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's more style also.😊 Was brought up on this but this was too fussy using mixing spoons, just dropping it out on the top, give it a quick kneading twirling around with the fingers, not the palms! The 'cross' is made to make quarters to serve and I've never heard the ridiculous stories and the american "st Patrick' from Wales. 😒I don't think this lady's ever made an Irish soda loaf before. Good video clip. Thank you. For those who are asking, the bread with soda needs an acid. One of the best tasting is buttermilk, BUT, for those who ask about milk and lemon juice ... it works fine. A trick with buttermilk: Use it until it nears about 1/4 full and top up with whole or 2% milk, leave on the counter 8-12 hours or overnight to let thicken ... and put in the refrigerator. My mother LOVED making bread. She made every kind imaginable but I don’t remember her making soda bread. My granny probably made it. She was Irish. I loved that woman with all my heart. I miss them both so much😌

So glad you did this video, Becky, I've made this bread before and had forgotten all about it, plus your tips look likes it will be even better! Just another note, was making tuna salad today, had it all together and found I was out of mayo, ran to Walmart and saw Dukes, had never tried it before but remembered hearing you liked it, SPOT ON! Really like the flavor! Joshua 1:9, one of my anchor verses, THANKS AND GOD BLESS!!!

Thank you Becky. You are right we need economical recipes like this right now. I can't wait to make this Soda Bread. I tried 3 times to make a basic Pita bread last week and failed each time. I even tried it with yeast and it didn't work. Just couldn't get it to bubble up while cooking it. Could you share a recipe video for Pita bread? Thank you so very much. God bless you!

I love watching your channel. You are an excellent teacher. I love that you explain "why" to do things they way you do when making a recipe, and what might happen to the finished product if you don't. I learn so much from you. I made this recipe and it's cooling on a wire rack right now. It looks and smells delicious. Thank you for posting such great videos.
