The director of this film, Joe Johnston, was the art director of the original Star Wars trilogy. Another great superhero film he did that took place around this time is The Rocketeer. 🚀

I never liked Marvel super hero films of the 2010s. They were too safe and lacked edge. The Dark Knight trilogy was more confrontational with audiences. Modern super hero flicks were made for the same people that ask you to check your pro noun.

@@DestinyAwaits19 lol, Nolan fanboys act like the Dark Knight trilogy was revolutionary. For the most part, they were watered down action movies with people wearing costumes. Not everything needs to be edgy, otherwise you end up with the suckfest that is Zack Snyder DCEU movies.

One of my favorite character intros in the franchise. What made Steve different is he’s just a guy with a big heart he’s not a billionaire with swag like Tony Stark, a brilliant groundbreaking scientist like Bruce Banner or a literal god like Thor. He’s just someone who wants to do the right thing and even after the serum and getting beefed up he still has humility to see himself as ‘just a kid from Brooklyn’

For me the thing about Steve is that he's the only superhero character whose 'real' life isn't almost as much a fantasy as their 'hero' life. Most people would love to be Tony Stark even if they couldn't be Iron Man or be Bruce Wayne even if they couldn't be Batman, but I don't think many people would choose to be Steve Rogers if they weren't going to be Captain America. When every other (human) superhero seems to be a billionaire or a genius (or both) outside of their superhero identity, it makes a nice change to have a character who's isn't super rich, is intellectually middle of the road, and (pre-serum) is physically below average.

For the movie, they made Captain America into a war bond promoter for 2 reasons. 1) Most important, they needed to get a back story for his Captain America costume. That's where it came from. It also worked in getting him to start of unsure of his abilities. He goes from some one doing entertainment, to a very good soldier who follows orders, an eventually into a leader. 2) They didn't think one soldier could make a difference and thought he was best used as an entertainer with his incredible strength.

They had him do that show to help sell "war bonds" - which is getting Americans to invest in the war.

I feel the same way Michelle. The first time I watched this movie I didn't think it was that great, just okay. As time went on I came to like it more and more. As of now Captain America is by far my favorite trilogy of MCU. Also, Wanda and Vision come close but definitely Steve and Peggy are my favorite MCU love story.

Captain America is also my favorite trilogy. Winter soldier and civil war are just so awesome and even if it is a superhero movie the plot seems the most grounded in reality with all the political and militaristic situations that go on. That and just watching a human at peak physical condition is way more relatable than a man in an iron suit flying around or a demi God lol.

It's one my favorites as well. I think it's because he's just a guy trying to make a difference for no other reason than that. Steve Rodgers was always a hero. He just needed a better body. He was trying to fight the good fight even when he was so frail a stiff breeze would've knocked him over. It's funny, Steve becomes a little bit like Tony Stark, but Tony Stark becomes a lot like Steve as time passes. That says a lot.

Stands up to bullies, even though he's small. Wants to join the war effort despite his body's limitations and ailments. Smart enough to grab a flag from the top of a pole without his feet leaving the ground, so he's intuitive and problem solving intelligent Doesnt want to kill anyone, even though he was given the oppurtunity at being in the Army. Jumped on top of a grenade he didnt know (or care) wasn't live, but sacrificed his own body for the sake of the men around him, even the one who was bullying him (f*** you, Hodge!) Good artist with a pencil and paper. And that was even before he had a serum injection. Steve Rogers is the greatest of all time. And that was even before he became Captain America.

Bucky being Steve's childhood friend instead of his kid sidekick, and the Red Skull getting the super soldier serum first instead of just being a N@zi in a mask are major departures from the original comic book, but they give the overall story and character development a lot more depth and meaning. Though it still annoys me that the Skull getting the serum concept was first tried in the abominable 1990 live action Captain America movie starring Matt Sallinger in which the Red Skull was switched from a Germa N@zi to an Italian F@$ci$t.

9:30 to answer your question about how they made him skinny to buff. The answer is backwards and with a LOT of work. How he looked buff after that scene is how he actually looked. The skinny version was made with CGI frame by frame. They literally 'painted in' his skinny body over his real one. Fun fact. The part where the actress touches his chest was real. It was the first time she'd seen him shirtless and oiled up like that. She was genuinely flustered, that part wasn't acting.

The Skinny Steve look was achieved through a few techniques - they'd film the scene twice, once with a skinny body double, and once with Chris Evans. Then would either composite the 2 actors together with a face replacement, or use the skinny Steve as reference while VFX artists would manually warp each frame to look correct. I met someone who worked on Captain Marvel as a VFX artist at an CG conference (I'm in the video game industry myself), and there are hundreds of artist across many studios working long, long hours to achieve the visuals for movies like this, and often when I'd have thought they had developed tools to make tasks easy its often a case of just talent, time and people power. Much respect to the dedication of these artists, the often unsung heroes of the modern effect heavy movie and tv industry

I don't think you understood the significance of the "4F" stamp. It meant that he was not eligible to fight in the war as in, he was rejected. 1A is "perfect" or "ideal" so yeah, they took him 😁👏🙌👍😎. You 2 are really good together.

Yeah, War Bonds were a huge deal in the US in World War II, getting Americans to help pay for the huge cost of the war. This is the entire reason they turned Steve into a celebrity and put him on tour & in movies. | : ] '

In case you read this Vicky and about her question of how they did in special effects the change of body of Captain America. They did it with a body actor for the first part of the film who used to make Steve scenes and his face is that of Chris Evans, in fact the effect is half false and when he leaves the camera with the super Soldier serum , there is already the actor with his real body

I think they recently indicated that the Agent Carter TV show was canon for the MCU so you can see Peggy again. I thought it was a good show. It's too bad Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't get the same recognition as that show was excellent.

The gorgeousness of these 2 is through the roof. LOVE that Michelle will be taking Viki through the entire MCU. The emotions of Viki during I AM LEGEND broke me. Her heart is as beautiful as her face. This was my favorite of all the MCU movies (although it's 2nd lowest grossing) until the the incredible Infinity War and End Game. Most people (unfamiliar with Chris Evans when this movie 1st came out) thought the special effects were his tallness and his muscles-- until they discovered later the incredible special effect was the skinny, small Steve.

@@anouar3194 More than one liked the movie. Did you see *their* reaction? Just look at all the cosplayers alone. The Cap trilogy (and his story) is the best in all the MCU in terms of quality storytelling, action, writing, and a fulfilling and satisfying arc.
