@@spamfilter32 To be fair, the Vampire Diaries writers always pretty much credited Buffy and always said stuff like "XYZ had their little Buffy and Angel moment" "oh we wanted XYZ to pull a Willow from Buffy". It was never hidden away or tried to be passed around as an "original idea". They were clearly huge fans of the franchise. The reason TVD was even decent in the first place is because the writers were heavily inspired by Buffy rather than Twilight and it helped them in the long run.

Appreciate: the emotional climax of this episode hinges on the audience shifting from wanting Buffy to kill Angel to being _heartbroken_ that Buffy has to kill Angel, and this shift takes places over the course of maybe two minutes. And it works beautifully. Top marks to the writing, direction and acting of that scene. That would have been so easy to screw up. They threaded multiple needles with one thread there.

Drusilla always had psychic powers and visions from the Powers that Be as a human, because she was destined to become a Saint.
@spamfilter322 ай бұрын
@dayceem Kendra said her watcher sent her there to stop the rise of a great evil/power. There was implication that Dru was very powerful before she became weakened. As in more powerful than a typical vampire. It has never been showen in any way what her powers were before she and Spike entered the scene, but no one (evil gang) was surprised by her powers of hypnosis. As if they were new. And Angel has never displayed such powers.

Not only did Buffy just kill the love of her life after he got his soul back in order to save the world, there are several other things that contributed to breaking her: 1) Her mom said if she leaves not to come back. 2) Kendra died, Willow and Xander were hurt. 3) Giles was tortured. 4) The police want her for murder. 5) She's been expelled from school. 6) Xander told her that Willow said "kick his ass" - implying Willow had jumped on the "hate Angel" bandwagon. No wonder she ran away. She wasn't thinking straight, or she might have figured out Willow would never have said that, but if she realized Xander knew Willow was going to try the spell again and didn't tell her, actually lied to her...that's even worse.

Season 3 is a masterclass of pacing and serialized storytelling - there are barely any "one-off" or "filler" episodes, and the ones that do exist are all excellent (no Go Fish moments). Plus season 3 introduces one of THE best characters in the whole Buffyverse!

There is one other aspect to season 3 that is important. Midway through the season the show got a firm contract for 2 more seasons ( 4 and 5). We then start seeing foreshadowing for those upcoming seasons and for a certain other show. But you won't know the meaning of those hints until you actually get to those future events.

Becoming part 2 was a terrific ending to S2 setting up the brilliant S3. Here we see Buffy faced with the ultimate heart breaking choice to kill her lover or save the world. We of course know she will make the right choice. Willow comes through at the end, but Buffy has to go through with the final act. So poignant at the end when from afar Buffy sees her friends but decides to leave Sunnydale, Joyce too is so regretful as she knows Buffy is now gone after their terrible row, all against the backdrop of Sarah McLachlan's beautiful haunting ballad Full Of Grace. I think we can see you guys are now hooked on the show, as are all reactors that enter 'The Buffyverse' and it only gets better. You will love S3 it's incredible!

One of the more subtle, but so very well written, things in this 2-part finale.

What an excellent season of reactions. Congratulations, you have now descended into the joys and heartaches of the Buffyverse. The reason about the show continuing was not about ratings, it had become the cash cow for the WB and Tuesday night was now the biggest ratings night. Joss Whedon was from a television entertainment 3 generations family. He knew he would only have certain windows to leverage money and control. It was after the network saw the scenes from I Only Have Eyes Doe You, that they believed David B could carry a show. The Angel spin off was proposed to Whedon before the shooting started on Becoming and the backstory maneuvering started. Whedon secret weapon in the negotiations was the participation of Sand Dollar Production.( They are in the final credits)Sand Dollar is owned by Dolly Parton and she has very good lawyers. Besides being darn entertaining you also pick up on many things missed by most.This will help in the coming seasons. Has you go forward try to keep in mind that this is not just a typical television show storytelling vehicle. You should think of Buffy like a great epic novel. It is entertaining filled with action, romance , and humor. But like a novel, the story takes its time, puts in motion plot lines that develop over time, and has meanings more than the visual elements. I know you are going to keep enjoying this show and become hooked like so many have. Thank you for your reactions and the entertainment you have brought to me.

"It's this fucking theme that gets me too..." And then...we learn the name of the theme. This season, from "Miss me?" to "Close your eyes" is an amazing achievement of storytelling, character development and performances. But it belongs to SMG. Just her performance from the moment Angel's soul returns: going from all out Slayer fury, to confusion, then wariness, dawning hope, her ecstasy at being in his arms again..then the realization, awful horror and her steeling her resolve to do her Duty...it still chills after a quarter century. Few shows have ever reached such a crescendo of operatic brutality.

Now that it isn't a spoiler, and the end of S2 is complete, I can mention the implied expansion of the Buffy universe in these episodes. 'The Powers That Be' becomes a catch all phrase for extraplanar powers, heavenly and otherwise, that basically want life to prosper and evil to lose. Implied in Willow's sudden change in spellcasting is that powerful forces were 'lending a hand' to a mortal agent to ensure success. It sets up a basic set of rules that then stay in place through the series: mortal agents can receive help...but they must ultimately take action on their own, often at a high personal price. Second: Buffy 'coming out' as a Slayer to her mom WAS ABSOLUTELY a major allegory for being gay in the 90s. Joyce's confusion and anger and denial as a parent was an intentional display of typical (typically ridiculous) parental shock and denialism that was more common then than now, but still as difficult to deal with as ever. The burnt bridges, the ridiculous ultimatums, the horrible realization that your kid is out there somewhere alone because of this...yeah...it was ALL intentional...and wonderful, since there weren't many shows with the brass to highlight all those nuanced topics with any realism or clarity...and this one outdid even the few others that tried.
@sirmoonslosthismind4 ай бұрын
their idea of "lending a hand" was sending whistler around. there's no reason to think there was divine intervention in willow's spellcasting -- in part because it didn't in fact require any further action or price from willow.
