Xiamen is my favorite city in China and i have been to most of the major cities in east coast. This city is extremely clean and well maintained. So many trees and flowers, lots of tourism sites and food is fantastic, only complain is there are too many tourists and get too crowded sometimes.

i have been in Xiamen 15 years ago. its really a nice city. and Gulangyu is also quite beautiful, next time, you can stay one night in Gulangyu island. its quite unique experience!

Because you travel under a hectic schedule, think about taking Vitamin C supplements daily for you & the children. In addition Vitamin A for 10 days of the month is very good as a anti-viral precaution. Plus - go to a Chinese pharmacy & ask what is a good Chinese formula (in tiny pills) for as soon as a person has a cold. Nip it in the bud quickly and you recover quickly - it's always good to have on hands for your future trips. Enjoy the rest of your trip

Hangzhou is a great place, I spent my middle and high school there. West lake is a must visit and has a lot of places around it. You can let the girls dress up traditional Chinese clothes there similar to some locals that you will see. Hangzhou also has headquarters of high tech companies like Alibaba. Enjoy your trip!

Have an excellent time in Hangzhou. Drink more water, food there's a little on the salty side, but so good. It's also the start of the other biggest historical landmark of China other than The Great Wall. The Grand Canal links Hangzhou with Beijing (aka Jing-Hang waterway), which the first parts of it was built in the 300s BC, that's 2300years ago!

There's no way you won't see any scooters anywhere in china, they will find a way to squeeze one in the narrowest alley ways, at any cost.

One more easy goto if you are sick & don't have meds on you... squash a clove of garlic to release the oil and mix with a little oil such as cooking oil or olive oil or coconut oil - don't do this without diluting the garlic. Usually even villages sell garlic wherever you travel, or the hotel restaurant. Then slather this oily mixture onto feet & toes and put on socks and plastic bags over the socks to contain the garlic smell. Then sleep with this. In the morning the germs are gone, and maybe you room may smell garlicky so open the windows once you are better & air out your room. It works on the principles of reflexology that as you do something to your feet, it corresponds to somewhere in your body.
