Welcome to my country, Singapore! I've been watching several of your China videos, and I can't believe you are all here now. I'm hoping you got to enjoy our local food, like the kaya toast breakfast, as well as our various ethnic districts like Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam, as well as the Peranakan area of Katong. If it's your first time in Singapore, exploring the Civic district and all those ethnic districts would be a good intro to the country, and that in itself would be a full day out. Also, the kids would probably enjoy a trip to the Singapore Zoo, River Safari, Bird Paradise, and Night Safari, which are all conveniently located in the Mandai area literally next to each other. It would be a full day out for this alone as well. Another full day out option would include Universal Studios Singapore and Fort Siloso on Sentosa island. Singapore Botanic Gardens is a UNESCO heritage site, as is our hawker food culture. You can explore various hawker food centres while you are exploring Chinatown. There is Chinatown Complex and Maxwell Food Centre, just to name 2 well-known hawker centres. Another good one is the Old Airport Road one, which was just renovated and re-opened, and is in the central area of Singapore, closer to Katong. Katong also has many hawker food options, but also do not miss Guan Hoe Soon and Kim Choo for Peranakan food. Just some suggestions to start with. Some people might say what I've suggested sounds somewhat touristy, but if it's your very first time here, then it makes sense to start somewhere with these kinds of things, before you explore our heartland neighbourhood spots. Hope you guys have a great time in Singapore! It is more expensive than other Southeast Asian countries, but it can also be less expensive than you expect, depending on where you go and what you do. We aren't ALL millionaires living in this country after all. There are regular folks here living regular lives. One unexpected spot you might visit are the showflats in HDB Hub in Toa Payoh, as that might give you an idea of how a great majority of Singapore lives. We're not all crazy rich asians here. More than 80 percent of us live in HDB (Housing Development Board) flats. It's public housing in Singapore, but it's some of the best quality public housing in the world. Toa Payoh is also one of our earliest HDB estates, and HDB Hub is located in the neighbourhood central area of Toa Payoh. After visiting the show flats in HDB Hub, you might want to just wander around the neighbourhood central area to see how most of Singapore lives.

It’s a common misconception! Singapore’s high development level often surprises visitors, especially those accustomed to the lower costs in other Southeast Asian countries. Many expect similar prices across the region, but Singapore’s infrastructure, standard of living, and economy are more comparable to places like Hong Kong, Japan, or South Korea. These expectations can lead to sticker shock for those who aren't prepared for the difference. 😅
@TheHutchinsons6 күн бұрын
Having being to most of the places you have stated, we can confirm that Singapore is in fact more expensive, however it is by far the cleanest and smartest country we have visited with incredible state of the art architecture, therefore the cost of living is warranted 👍🏼

Welcome to Singapore. It's not expensive if you are comparing with other developed countries. Cars are expensive in Singapore due to the strict control in ownership as we are a land scarce country. Else Singapore will be polluted with packed traffic. Our government counters that with affordable and reliable public transport system (you can just tap with your Visa/Apple/Google pay). Concession rates are provided for the lower income and elders. Cheaper food options are found at the hawker centres and food stalls around the heartlands where most locals eat. You can get chicken rice etc meal from $3.50 - $5.

Only dont eat when u see the sign, mainly at train station and in buses. I was never fine for eating a curry puff while walking on the street. If I only drink a few sips of plain water from my own water bottle in the train, nobody will say anything. Mainly is to maintain cleanliness in public transport. And I have never heard of ppl being jailed and not given food and water. What sort of rumours are these? Japanese has culture of not eating while walking.

Correction : S'pore is not an English speaking country but most people do know the language. A lot of people still communicate in their own mother tongue. There are still many , the seniors who speak in their own dialects & Mandarin , even the younger generation. That also include the Malays & Indians as well. So when you say S'pore is an English speaking country is not accurate. I myself speak Mandarin with my colleagues & family. So S'pore is not an English speaking country but most people do know the language.

S'pore is a beautiful place but if you have darker skin color, this place isn't for you. A family member and I experienced racism when we travelled to this place for more than a week. When I asked my spouse if she enjoyed Spore she responded yes, but when I asked her if she would like to return, she answered never. Funny tho, I have the same answer in mind. Now it made sense why there are a very few black people were seen during our visit. We saw exactly 4 black people only. I will never go back to this place again unless I have a connecting flight or I have to do a business trip.

I'm Singaporean, and we are not all racists. I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience here. But I really do hope you do come back again and give us a second chance. Speaking for myself personally, I would welcome anyone to my country, regardless of race, language or religion. My own family has people of many colours. Within my family, we are multi-ethinic, we have Chinese, Malay, Eurasian, Caucasian, Peranakan, and my family has lived in Singapore for many generations, so we are mixed and have all colours. Growing up like this, it's impossible for me to be racist. How can I discriminate among my own family members? I also went to school with people of many races, all of which are my friends. So I really do hope that you don't let this bad experience put you off Singapore forever. Those encounters you had are not representative of the whole of the country. I am one of many examples of people who do not discriminate like that.
